  1. The promotions are coming fast and furious here at the Pathfinders! On behalf of command, it's my honor to promote Jake @Jakeputt Putnam to Detachment Costume Advisor for the Kashyyyk Scout. Like most of us, Jake started out as a ROTJ Biker Scout and even achieved Lancer, but then moved his attention over to the Kashyyyk and ran with it. Besides being very active on this forum with Kashy builders, Jake has started the most popular Kashyyyk Build group on Facebook, the 41st Elite Sarlaac Battalion. As DCA, Jake will assist builders on the forum, help any GMLs with questions about the Kashyyyk costume, and judge any L2 applicants. So far no one has achieved L2 with the Kashy - I am hoping Jake will be the first! I also would like to thank Luis @ferra Canto for his years of service as Kashy DCA. Luis has had to take a step back from his duties due to his job and his new baby, but he will still be around as Kashy Armorer! Once again, congrats to Jake!
  2. On behalf of Pathfinders' Command, it is my pleasure to promote Sarah "Feliscout" Silverman-Pucci (TB-2748) to the rank of Ranger! @Feliscout has completed 100 troops as a Pathfinder, showing true dedication to this Detachment! And on an additional note, Sarah only found out about the Trooping Awards a few months ago, meaning she had to painstakingly go back and find photos from troops going back well over 10 years to build her log! Today, she added her 100th troop as a Scout, and we are happy to add her to the ranks. Congrats, Sarah! Your pic has been added to the Pathfinder Hall of Fame. I've also let @plagu3is know you are eligible to purchase the Ranger patch. Wear it with pride, Pathfinder!
  3. Welcome to the Pathfinders forum! We have a great Scout armor team on hand to help you see this to the end. Thank you for starting a WIP. That will make it a lot easier to help you.
  4. Okay now that I'm sitting at my PC I will elaborate on my answer a little bit I'm guessing you were told that the only accurate hip armor out there is made by Mr Paul and therefore that's the one you should get. Paul's hip armor is very accurate -- I myself own a set -- but it's not true that it's the only one that's approvable. Most Shoretroopers I would guess were approved using hip armor they made themselves using Seantrooper's original pattern. It's pretty simple: you size it to your body, print it out, trace it on some foam and then cut. Then you add the armor plates (made out of ABS like I said above) and then paint. I myself did this when I first got approved and I believe it set me back all of about $20 for materials and paint. Was it hyper accurate? No. But it was absolutely approvable. I am an accuracy guy and I wanted a better set -- so I reached out to Paul to find out how much his were. With shipping from the UK, it was going to cost about $210. Which is a lot more than $20! So I made the remixed pattern I posted above, based on studies I made of screen used Shoretrooper armors. I was about to make myself a new set when I saw someone was selling a set of Paul's hip armor they purchased but never used for $150 and I jumped on it. So now I have a set of Paul's. Like I said, I'm an accuracy guy so I totally get the desire to be as close to screen used as possible. But there are plenty of close enough ways of getting approved as a Shoretrooper that don't involve spending top dollar for parts. It's just whatever is important to you. Will you get approved making your own hip armor? Yup. Can you get Level 2 with it? Also yup. Also bear in mind, Paul's stuff is made for folks that were about the same size as the troopers in the film. If you are bigger or smaller than the average Rogue One stunt actor, you might run into a sizing issue with his hip armor.
  5. Are some people the Detachment leader of the Pathfinders who was approved with this hip armor pattern?
  6. The thickness of a "For Rent" sign should be fine. It's just glued onto the foam. You don't want something thick or the hip armor won't flex
  7. Yeah pretty close I'd say! The hip armor is a piece of foam with plastic on portions of it. Most of us just use ABS plastic signs (like "For Rent" signs you can buy at the hardware store) to make the hard armor parts I used 1/4 inch neoprene foam for mine. Some people use EVA foam.
  8. Okay all the Scout tote suggestions were split out and put into their own topic. Let the Shoretroopers be Shoretroopers, folks!
  9. In "Mando", Scouts were seen using both configurations, so we decided to leave it up to the costumer.
  10. 3d props also does commissions. You might want to inquire with them and see if they will make a blaster for you. I checked over at FISD and that's what I came up with. The R1 E-11 just isn't as popular as the old school one so there aren't many makers. And the approved Shoretroopers by and large seem to prefer the E-22. If you can get your hands on an Airsoft sterling (which the R1 version was based on) you can always try a conversion.
  11. Do you 3D print at all? I've found a few files for printing the R1 version of the E-11 https://www.3d-props.com/3d-files/e-11b-r1-files/ https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4941514
  12. Hyperfirm has been out of business for a few years now. This is an old thread.
  13. To me it's more how much narrower the face is on the SF.
  14. The Sean Fields helmet is fine, but no comparison to the Anovos. Here's me when I first got approved wearing the SF and on the right is me my Anovos for my L2 application
  15. Try these: https://photos.app.goo.gl/SVrDABEsJAGhjSmy6 https://photos.app.goo.gl/bMyw8Z3V4hXv2HXRA https://photos.app.goo.gl/C69MwSpnurCoZarN7
  16. I've got a Sean Fields and an Anovos -- which, if the Nico is as accurate as I've been told, should be very similar. Sean Fields left, Anovos right:
  17. These are pictures of my Anovos, which is the most accurate ST bucket out there, since they got the dimensions straight from Lucasfilm:
  18. Yeah I didn't notice them at all. I'm wondering if you could hide them with some weathering -- maybe sand them off? Shoe polish or some Fiebing's leather dye could probably help cover it up too. Good thing about the Shoretrooper is that there is so much weathering on the costume that a lot of errors are very easy to conceal!
  19. To be fair, the ammo pouch should be pretty beaten up. The screen used are pretty well worn: Many of them come with a musty odor from being in storage. Some people put them in a ziploc bag filled with baking soda to help get rid of the order. I just left mine outdoors for a few weeks until it went away. If you have mold on yours, saddle soap may help get it off. Are you saying the oiler has initials written on it? Are they on the front or the back? If on the back, it won't matter because it's going to be hidden by the hip armor.
  20. Those look great. Definitely meet the criteria of "Alpinestar-styled motorcycle sport/racing boots"!
  21. Should be an easy pass for basic. Codpiece might be hanging a little low and loose for my taste, but that's typical with the IB soft goods. Get your application in and get approved! Then start trooping!
  22. On behalf of Pathfinders Command, I would like to welcome Dennis @AradunFFMueller as the newest member of the Pathfinders Armor Team! Since becoming a Pathfinder in August of 2020, Dennis has been a big help to new members starting out in their builds. He's offered a lot of great advice on build techniques or even just assistance finding one's way around the forum! He's also recently added another Pathfinder armor to his roster -- the JFO Scout. With a friendly demeanor and positive attitude, I have no doubt Dennis will help keep the Pathfinders the best Detachment in the Legion!
  23. As long as it looks correct from the outside, we don't care what happens on the inside of your belt. You need the rivet and it needs to appear that's how the nylon belt in the back is held to the plastic. Just curious what kind of material you are using? Nylon is pretty tough stuff. So is polypro. Have you tried using a lighter to heat the hole in the fabric and keep it from fraying? Also are you using a rivet washer?
  24. And for new Detachment Costume Advisor.... Command would like to extend its congratulations to Justin @MrPoopie Hartwell (TB-36000)! Besides attaining Lancer very soon after being approved back in 2016, Justin has made numerous contributions to the Detachment both as an Armorer and our resident 3D printing expert. He has contributed to many new Pathfinder CRLs -- as often when we don't have a maker for a specific part, Justin will 3D model it, print it, and get it off to the builder in record time! He has expertise with the ROTJ Scout, the JFO Scout, the Patrol Trooper, the Mountain Trooper and the soon-to-be-complete Treadspeeder Driver. To say he's qualified would be an understatement -- and a severe understatement once you also add in his experience as a builder of 74-Z Speeder bikes! As DCA, Justin will be assisting builders of a great many of the Detachments costumes, as well as helping with Lancer review. Let's all congratulate Mr. Poopie!
