  1. Approved Vendors, including 3D file sellers, may be found here We are working with GA to improve some accuracy issues. They are almost there but not yet!
  2. Hello Pathfinders and future Pathfinders! Several months ago, a group of GMLs approached command about banning the WTF Scout helmet for approval. They pointed out that it violates the "Helmet is true to the shape of original screen used helmet" portion of the Level 1 CRL. We are inclined to agree. Command and the Armor team discussed the issue and the decision was unanimous: the WTF helmet will be banned for Level 1 after a 6-month grace period. Besides the overall inaccuracy of the helmet in appearance, we also note that it's an extremely challenging build, with many builders coming to us in frustration that they aren't able to get it to line up properly and some just giving up all together. We are hoping this decision will be good for all parties: builders, Walt's Trooper Factory, and the Legion as a whole. Now you may be asking, how is this good for Walt? I've been discussing this issue with him and he indicated to me that he was actually in the process of updating all his Scout parts. Additionally, he let me know that he has the rights to the Lone Wolf helmet, which as some of you may know, was the gold standard helmet for accuracy before RS Props and EFX came along. Now that begs the question... why wasn't he making those all along? But I'll leave that to Walt. So what's the TL;DR with a WTF v.1 (as we will refer to them going forward)? If you are already approved with a WTF v1, YOU'RE FINE. Legion grandfathering protects the wearers of already approved gear for as long as they are Active. HOWEVER -- if you sell your helmet to another costumer, that grandfathering no long applies and they would fall under the next step: If you already own a WTF helmet or are in the process of building one and you have NOT BEEN APPROVED YET, you have SIX MONTHS to get it done. So that means you must be approved by 10 AUGUST 2024. If you own a WTF helmet, but are RETIRED and want to reapply, you also have until 10 AUGUST 2024 to do so. When you are RETIRED but want to go Active again, it's like you are applying for the first time and your costume must be up to current spec. After 10 AUGUST 2024, specific language will be added to the CRL stating that the WTF v1 is no longer acceptable for basic approval. We hope this compromise works for the GMLs, the builders and Walt's Trooper Factory. If you have any questions or need any help with your build, please let us know and we will do our best to help you get it done before the deadline. Picture of the V1 helmet:
  3. Looks good to me. If you don't add enough batting, it won't look right when you stitch in the ribs
  4. Looks good. Dropboxes are close to the belt like they should be. You might want to position them so they ride a little closer to your front than your back.
  5. This is probably the best option and a lot less likely to break!
  6. Well the thing with 3d parts is that they aren't solid in the same way vacuum formed plastic parts are. There is an outer layer of a few very thin walls, but the interior is usually hollow with a honeycomb-like structure to give it support. So there really wouldn't be anything to carve into. We've been working with GA to get the files up to date for 501st approval. He has a tendency to pull his models from video games, and a lot of times they don't have the actual details in the models because they layer them over top later on. I can bring our resident 3D expert @MrPoopie in to see if he has any advice.
  7. The exact measurements when it comes to strapping is a Level 2 requirement so you're fine there -- unless you go for Level 2. So if I am understanding you right, the kit is 3d printed, you just didn't print it yourself? If so, I'm thinking it would be enormously difficult to carve a rectangle into the chest piece without shattering it. It's odd that it's not there though -- did they use the correct file?
  8. Hey Paul! @KOtrooper and @Minimo are our resident Shoretrooper experts, so feel free to reach out with any questions. Also, your build is pretty similar to mine, so here are my threads to the extent they help:
  9. I want to thank the membership for entrusting me with another term as your Detachment Leader! This past term was one of our best ever, with the 40th Anniversary of "Return of the Jedi" and our Detachment's centerpiece costume: The ROTJ Biker Scout! 2024 looks to be a quieter year, with no Star Wars Celebration or major CRL coming down the pike (though Disney may always surprise us!) But there is still a new CRL to finish up (the Andor ST Grunt), the long awaited Part 2 of the Armor Party video, a renewed push on the Patrol Trooper, and preparations for our next big anniversary in 2025: the 20th anniversary of "Revenge of the Sith" and the Kashyyyk Trooper! The Legion will be busy with elections for the next few weeks, and I invite you all to participate in the ones you are eligible for, whether it's asking questions or just reading what the candidates have to say and making informed decisions. The new term will begin on February 19th, so get your speeder bikes ready!
  10. When all else fails.... read the CRL OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): Shoulder bridge covers, covering the join between the front and back of the armor, are made of white cotton webbing or elastic. Covers are between .5 inch and 1 inch wide.
  11. Kropserkel has been winding down their Scout business, but I believe they still have some kits left (I was able to get a new one about a year ago). Just write them an email: info@kropserkel.com Spike offers the Altmann helmet through this site:
  12. As another large-domed Scout, I can tell you you're not going to fit in the SC helmet. So just get the armor Altmann is good. Kropserkel also. RS Props helmet is very spacious too. And if all else fails, you can go the 3D printed route. But I'd try any of those above first
  13. Some of those suggestions I like. Some I don't. But we can talk more about it as your build goes on.
  14. I think you're doing well, man! Good on you for getting out of your comfort zone and trying something different. And once you get the armor and other soft goods on, it will look great!
  15. The only thing you need armor wise is to figure out where your chest piece and belt are going to sit. Belt is pretty easy -- it goes across your natural waist (ie over your belly button, not your hips like modern pants) Depending on the maker, the chest should end just under your pectorals. So the bund needs to fit in that gap. You can probably estimate it pretty well even if your armor is not completely strapped up. The codpiece isn't really dependent on the armor, as it sits under everything and should end right at your groin.
  16. All the major helmet makers back in the day had the return edge around the visor. Even before RS and EFX. Just going through the first couple of posts in this thread, which dates back to 2013, you can see it in all of the major helmet makers at the time, including the Don Post. The Black Series one filled that area in for the electronics and that's what disqualifies it.
  17. I just checked your profile -- that's how much image space you have left. Every rank and file member gets 1MB worth of photos to post. I host my photos on my Dropbox account. Other folks use Imgur. And there's also posting through Tapatalk, You got options!
  18. Not to the same extent but the pattern in the first post contains some great instructions
  19. I used that top one for the bund tutorial:
  20. I added it to the roster yesterday! Well done
