  1. What offerings? Vendors say a lot of things on their websites that aren't true all the time. And do they "seem" to not have a return edge or do they actually not have one? If you got pics, I'd like to see them. Those were all listed above, but I'll post the links
  2. You need to trim the visor some more and get rid of the excess plastic. The Lexan scissors will help you do that. You want it looking more like this: I would start with that
  3. I'm not sure what you are asking here. First you say "Why not say, "vac formed from XX width plastic?", and then you say "well if it needs to be vac formed then I guess my helmets are out". Nobody said anything about making them vac formed except you. That's nothing we are calling for. The helmet needs a return edge. Jesus Salmeron's 3D helmet has a return edge, so there's no issue with 3D helmets provided they are modeled correctly A CRL is text AND images, because description is not always capable of capturing every nuance of a piece.
  4. That will work. I just used a small hobby knife
  5. Going off mine, the height of the cylinder, including the end caps which are built onto mine, is 5.5 inches. The width would be whatever fits inside your end caps!
  6. If the holes are for the rivets to hold the visor to the main helmet, I would just rethink that whole part and do it properly with the 3M bolts. I outline it here:
  7. This armor is cracked and starting to spilt. Remember, this exhibit was almost 20 years after the film. Just like the Blu Ray and the Costumes book, the MOTM exhibit was a great source of info, but the movie is ultimately what we go by.
  8. You could make some ABS slurry with some acetone and scrap ABS you've trimmed. I've had success with that. Also -- there's good ol' Bondo.
  9. You can wear it over your nose if you want your lens to fog up. Otherwise, pull it down to your chin
  10. Keep in mind -- they all say that. @Aradun is correct though -- that helmet alone is not approvable.
  11. Yeah I have to agree with @MrPoopie-- after 3d printing everything from helmets to weapons to armor, I think I just prefer an ABS kit and save the 3D printing to accessories. All the sanding and finishing time just really gets to be a bit much.
  12. Best place to start for all things ROTJ Scout is right here: http://forum.501stpathfinders.com/forum/91-biker-scout-hq/ We've got tutorials, vendor lists, plenty of source material photos and even links to videos!
  13. Well too bad I didn't wait just a few days, because the Film Commission has finally made ALL their photos available. Please follow the information and guidelines below for downloading and posting the images. I truly enjoyed this special event and meeting you all there. See you back for the 50th Mickey
  14. Yeah I mean - that's how it's supposed to be done with any of the armors. I cover that in this video too:
  15. Okay here is a link to the photos I have received from the film commission https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/16XvaC3ifbrOwKrYeyUm-jg84rw3_33zW?usp=sharing I have asked for more, but have not received any yet. When posting these please credit: Photo by Mark McKenna Courtesy of the Humboldt-Del Norte Film Commission/Forest Moon Festival. Sorry for the inconvenience. We were going to have our own photographer there but they were unable to come at the last minute.
  16. Unfortunately I've gotten very few and when I inquired about getting more I was told the photographer has still not turned in any further. I will ask again soon. Give me a bit and I will create a folder for the ones I have received.
  17. You don't have to clear coat the armor in any way. Just go with however the Sahara Beige looks out of the can. I used a Hobart shield at first, but then I ended up getting one from Mr Paul because I wanted that whole curved lens thing for Level 2.
  18. Looking good! Yeah, ABS can be a bear sometimes, but once you get it dialed in it's really hard to beat. Looking forward to more of your progress and let us know how we can help
  19. They slide around a bit in the film, but generally below the vest sleeve is a good place
  20. My man... The SC helmet is a little wonky. It is on the budget and of things. The KS even moreso, but they are similar enough that the build methods are almost identical. No tutorial is going to walk you through every bit of minutiae involved in a build. You will get a general idea and need to extrapolate from there. Do not chase perfection with this build. You'll never get it with a budget helmet and even the ones in the film had their share of wonkiness. Helmets ARE tough for sure. And one of the reasons you don't see a lot of build threads for them is that's one item a lot of folks get premade. But they are there. Check the WIP forum or the Armor/Helmet forum.
  21. Hello prospective Pathfinders! This question comes up a lot, and as usual -- we got your covered. It may require a little legwork on your part, but in the end, we try to save our members money. Each costume family has its own "Armory" and in the Armory there will be an HQ and in each HQ there will be a "Vendor List". The Vendor List is a list of VETTED makers of props. That means these are props that the Detachment have judged to be acceptable for approval. Additionally, we have a forum for VETTED Vendors to sell their props through the forum. Again, vetted means the Detachment has judged their props to be approvable. That forum may be found here: http://forum.501stpathfinders.com/forum/156-vendor-sales/ BUT -- I SAW SUCH AND SUCH ARMOR ON EBAY/ETSY/FACEBOOK FOR $5!!! IS THAT APPROVABLE? With the explosion of 3D printing, there has been a huge uptick in the number of folks selling props online. It's impossible to keep up with all of them. Additionally -- a lot of these props do not meet requirements for approval. Remember -- propmakers do not set our standards, we do (and that is governed by the source material). So if you don't see such-and-such vendor on the list it's either because we haven't heard of them yet or their stuff isn't up to snuff. Most of our Vetted Vendors work WITH the Detachment to make sure their stuff meets requirements. If you think you have a found a vendor offering a quality product, please bring them to our attention or get them to reach out to us. We are always happy to add new Vendors to the list, provided they sell items that meet our requirements. We will not add any vendor to the vetted list that is known to recast armor. If you don't know what recasting is, please read: Finally -- many of the Armories for each costume have threads that explain how to make some of your own props (mostly soft goods). So if you want to try to save some money and make your own stuff, please give these a read. Reading build threads of approved Pathfinders may also help you determine which prop is best for you. Please check out the WIP section of each armory. Pathfinders Lead the Way!
  22. It looks pretty good. The KS is wonky to say the least so a lot of it is just lining it up in the least-worst configuration. Unfortunately most of the extras they include, other than maybe the decals, can just be tossed out. And I think even with the decals I ended up using Trooperbay ones. Though I guess that's no longer an option. Using the speedbolts will make it a lot easier to deal with the build, so good on you for picking those up! You might want to cut out the earholes before gluing stuff together
