Looks cool.

As in the other thread I have to agree on soft part drop boxes. It's just that the CGI meshes can be misleading as not modelled detailed enough (wrinkles etc).

This is how I see it: the knee part in thzat state is a bit difficult to judge on for me. -
What a weekend... you can smell the finish line already - Great stuff. since you mentioned "Misc rubber straps and bands - pending completion" I got even more excited hehe can't add anything more to what Chris has said except I love your work and dedication.

I have those comics too. But imo they feel wrong somehow, mainly because they use CT armor. Here is the comic version: the SW Insider illustration

I just got a new job - so the least I'd order would be the material. But I hope the guy can give you a sample to show before purchase.

Well the shoulders of the barc are a bit more complex on the whole due to it's multi-curveyness . But yes - I guess the easiest looking parts are the most complex because we approach things differently once we categorized something to be difficult or simple. Hehe, you might notice a true pessimist speaking . -

Very nice result. And about the time...it was the Beatles who already noticed that there are "eight Days A Week" Still remarkable job in that short time frame. -
Congrats Nathan - now we have a Samurai-Lancer

I'd say 1". The strapping itself is a bit difficult as the references (screenshots vs promorenders) seem to contradict. In the high resolution render of the poster it seems there is a metal loop securing velcroed strapping (loop style is squareish as with koop/hook systems we know from pants) while the screenshots suggest strapping held or tightened by a buckle system (tri-slide or ladder lock). I'm a bit too busy to post the pictures - maybe later.

Hey Frank - good to see you're back on track. The progress of the knee protector looks promising. However the shoulder part looks still too thin. Of course you need a longer shoulder part to match your length but you need to scale it proportional. The assumption this shape was possible using the screen cap you mention in your introduction is misleading I think. Maybe you missed out that this shot is from an angle and due to the curve a certain part of the shoulder bell is covered. As most screencaps show the shoulder bell of the scout seen form the side is rather squared than rectangular. Once you are going to add the chest you will notice this. It is one of the major flaws a lot of biker scout armors do suffer from. Well that's my view on it - it needn't have to be shared. But remember the screen cap series I've posted earlier. Keep up the good work -

As hinted in the last post Reinone seems to be up to produce a new batch. So check out this thread of TDH http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/forums/show...ed=1#post245940 -
That extra work payed off. Looks very nice Mike. Damn that'll be a sweet trooper once finished.

Confirmed - only the base suit is composed out of the material SGB is trying to get fabricated. As we have blind areas due to the cummerbund and armor you could save material just doing the arms and neck area for the upper part and use plain black or whatever base colour that suit of SGB will feature. I'm not convinced of patchwork but well.... Also I'm a bit curious about the "blown up" aspect. It could easily be that its' just looking like a MARPAT then due to pixelating. I guess the material price would be ok - for some materials I've payed similar prices py -> snowtrooper. But the shipping and customs will make it a hell to import - so I'm getting a bit sceptical if that works for me.
-
Yeah - I'm one of the "dwarfes" 176 cm maybe was average when ANH was filmed but now....
-
Shapes seem all fine - Just the scaleing but that's why you've made the shots so... If you say that's an easy modification that's fine. Anyways that's a damn sexy armor and definately a masterpiece of craftmanship. The material is not the best to work on pretty much as most costumes but you succeeded in getting almost close to the original in the first throw where other armors had to undergo several steps in evolution. I think that's noteworthy.

- speechless - forget about the lack of softparts etc - that's such a pretty armor . it seems everything goes well together regarding proportions in relation to each other. Though in some screenshots the shoulder armor apears a bit bigger than in your example. Are you a bigger guy than your model manequin?

As Mike pointed out before the CGI artists didn't bother with real life physics of costumes too much. You see these "flaws" in many aspects of the CGI characters in the Prequels. When the classic trilogy was filmed there were artists doing concepts and prop builders/engineers were trying ot realize it in a functional way. These days you have concept designers and 3D artists and what I've noticed working with many 3D artists in game design is the fact that many know how to work out cool CGI stuff but have a lack of real life practicability and/or the details and backgrounds to what they're doing. And actually they don't have ot bother too much as only a minority of people realize and question these things. It's like everything in life - everyone witnesses but only a few really reflect about it. To take up the cudgels for the artists.... It's still possible that the helmet was meant to be made of seperate pieces - not nceessarily "flip wise" but similar to Darth Vader's helmet - just two hlaves that have ot be connected somehow. Be it for maintnance reasons or to get into the helmet....who knows and who cares I guess if we would make a Q/A session with the designers of the characters you'd be surprised how little background some production studios put into their projects as long as it works in the big picture. Still I'd be interested what they would answer - but they'd do better not to grant such an opportunity to me

The black thing is usually grey (in the promo renderings) and is one of the two* "box" devices attached to the left bicepts with an equally grey kind of strapping. I guess it's some kind of back-engineered T-bit - same as the other stuff embedded in the right bicepts as can be seen in Mike's replica. Btw. great work!! But I think there is one detail missing. In the CGI pic I posted above it looks as if the second smaller tube under the "main sensor?!" hosts or is made up of another tube with smaller diameter attached. *) I say two because be it CGI error or whatever but there is one screenshot showing a box like that pointing towards the chest as well.

I was asked by Matthew to post this illustration so people know what they could expect: I made this illustration to show what the GM boots would be like and that white boots would be the more efficient choice for both; Barc/GM as it's easier to recolor white than tan boots. Another option to keep the costs as low as possible. Of course I'd be in - I have 9.5 - so 10 would be ok with me as well. And I'd take two depending on costs. -

What size do you plan to provide? -
I think it is too early - we cannot set a standard before we have seen what is possibe/doable for barc costumes until we have half a dozen of barc trooper outfits to judge on. Of course with the existence of Mike's great hard shell pieces the benchmark is quite high right from the start. As for defining the general seperates needed for a barc I think these are obvious and probably a cross section of Bob's and Dave's proposal.

The Acrylikhan Armor Project Files
TB-7076 replied to Acrylikhan's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
Project suspended doesn't sound cool in my ears I need a standard size helmet such as the altman's/dp - I 'm within the range of the extras playing the scouts....well the smaller ones . What people can do to their helmets to a) expand the helmet (rear) and to get more exposed ears is splitting the dome in halves and re-attach them leaving some space in the back so that you get a chevron shaped gap expanding to the rear. simply bridge the gap with bondo or similar material and you're set. This is a modification I'm going to do mainly because I want to achieve more exposure of the ears seen from the front. I hope my lines make sense -
I mean as long as the armor isn't finished there is no hurry anyways. A lot of stuff of the Barc is still waiting for solutions which allows Jason some time to catch up
