Two specific types of Biker Scout
TB-7076 replied to lonewolf's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
When I assembled my scout my goal was always o have the battle weary scout. Now I have that gear for one and a half year and it still isn't weatherd in the way shown on Endor but it doesn't look clean like a garrisoned trooper. So Troopers who go for clean Death star Parade version won't last long in that designation I think. I already have toyed around having two gears as in certain events it is more suitabale to be clean though -
I'd even spend some money with the risk to have major headackes for some weeks to get the thing assembled. I waited so long for a better helmet and bought 4 helmets so far!!!! I finally want one that gets beyond DP/Altmann modifications. And "This is it!" I think. As Crazy says - it's you decisison but if you ask me - please go for it

hehe, same here buddy...I come here several times every day. Pure ... this bucket.

This biker is interested too!

Regarding the dome and visr problem you have had I want to repost these photographs which might help. The Scout dome is much taller than existing replicas. Maybe there is a need to elevate the dome of your sculpt a bit, I couldn't tell form the supplied photos.
-
This is my explanation for it. Compare all shots available of the boots and concentrate on the wrinkles of the boots. I think it's obvious there was nothing solid within the bootlegs except leather and maybe lining in case they spend the time and efforts. Looking at most self made scout boots which lack lining it might be they also went that route as those on screen are a better fit than most replicas used here. I think the drastic shape drawn by the reflection is leading to the interpretation. If you look at the whole scene and all frames you notice that the way the boots behave doesn't support your theory - at least I'm convinced there is nothing installed underneath the leather though it is not completely irrational that stuntmen might have used shin guards during the stunt scenes. But I doubt they're part of the design. Here is the whole scene as an animation: And a further comparison of the single scenes and another set of pictures form the original boot:

I'm not sure if I understood correctly but I doubt there is anything else besides the material used to produce the chaps. Those folds might be mistaken as such but are really just folds. My boots behave the same way without anything but proper bootleg lining. If you meant lineing, I beg your pardon. Look here (the lineing is the brownish leather): And this is how it behaves kneeling: It almost has the same feeling as the originals (except for the wrong lining at the toe tip :s)

I agree - it shouldn't be too thin also regarding the original two halves technique; how about 2-2,5 mm - I think that is close to MC's material. Of course only - if available.

Need help with the chest plate cracking
TB-7076 replied to Tom_in_AZ's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
I can take pictures this afternoon (europe). -
That would be cool!! Hey Lonewolf what thickness do you use to pull the helmet? I think at the nose and the folds underneath the viewport as well as some other spots it could use some more sharpness. Maybe a thinner material or a stronger vac table might do the trick as I think the moulds are not the problem judging from the pictures. Once thing is set in stone - if you do plan to produce some more I want at least one

Need help with the chest plate cracking
TB-7076 replied to Tom_in_AZ's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
I had the problem with my MC chest plate too. Just at the lower end of the center where there is is this strange indention I have no explanation for, however due to being forced to bend slightly from the torso strapping it broke - I send it to a friend to fix it with fiberglas which worked well. Now it's very stable and he even filled the indention. I'm not sure though what type/fabricates of fiberglas and resin he used but the material MC used caused no problems with it. SC armor might be suitable for larger frames I think. -
Digital model - Need Critiques!
TB-7076 replied to TerranCmdr's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
The problem areas seem to be most of the organic shapes on the face mask and visor. It would be a bit tedious to try to mark the errors as it wouldn't help much. Maybe you can tell us how accurate the 3D built has to be and how much shape shifting has to be done once the paper model is ready? I guess most of the organic parts are modelled once you have the basic built. Maybe this can help a little - these are pictures from my Don Post which in general has the correct shapes but you have to compare with the original. However for basic 3D modelling these are good references. Be sure to always remind yourself this is a not so well done replica but as 3D modellers are used to work from blueprints this should be of help. http://www.madphisto.net/dpshots.zip -
It's getting better and better. Love it Looking at the last picture I'd try to get the visor edges on the same levels. Of course I know it's not directly from the front so things might seem a bit more critical than they are. A lot of stuff seems to be worked out, the helmet's shapes look a lot crispier in the details - Top!

The answer is : rubber blasters Always keeps in place even in motion

Yeah I can imagine the pain in the ass such a project is causing. Just let me say one thing - besides all critiques and all the hardships that may follow your path... please keep going - I think you're on the right track. [sellfish_mode]And it would be so cool to have a spot-on bucket available in europe [/sellfish_mode]

First of all - cool that someone is doing a take on this!!! If you just knew hoe long I'm looking for people who try to do it right once and for all. So far I think it looks good but still I have some gripes - I hope you don't mind. Photographs can be misleading but I think while it is completely the right thing to make the forehead larger than any other replica out there the way visor and dome correspond to each other seems to be wrong. In the side and front view both parts together result in a too low profile of the dome from the front if you ask me. Facemask details could be a tad sharper. Also the lower sides of the mask with nose and the neck should be extended downwards a bit , too. The front surface of the arch of the nose should be a tad thinner. So I'd take away a bit form the inside. It is not necessary to implement a gap in the embedding of the snout because you will install seperated base plates or the MC base anyways to look more original. Is it possible to show it next to a DP bucket to have a better size comparison? I'm not sure if the helmets you chose for size reference are the new or old south american ones so I just want to be sure if - and if - how much bigger it is cpompared to a DP. Thanks for doing this and I'd be interested if the project is final or some alterations are considered and if some buckets might be available in the future

Sorry but I don't do this anymore, if you like to take over report to Detachment Command, they have the files. Cheers Phil

hmm, ok I found a boot today with similar soles and even though the boots are tad too big for me I had to buy them being the last pair in stock. I had o pull them. Once they arrive I'm looking into modifying and casting the sole and look what we can come up with. here are the boots - still a lot to modify though but a good base featuring the typical angled heel and general shape. Let's see what some mould makers and I can do. http://www.madphisto.net/lookalikeboots1.jpg http://www.madphisto.net/lookalikeboots2.jpg

You always seem to flush all my hopes down the toilet lately

What happened to this initiative? I wonder if anyone ever thought of making masters via rapid protoyping with the help of digitally scanned masters? with enough interest we could stem the costs.

TB-2677 Requesting Lancer Deployment (WITHDRAWN)
TB-7076 replied to TB-2677's topic in Lancer Deployment Request
You can paint it if the tan sole color of these aren't qualifying - ask the Kashhyyk Troopers for help as some of them did as well. -

The diamont decor is usually covered by the leather and tip stripe like the originals. The originals had a decor like that too. Just check the resources here ein the gallery! But in case the palladium boots are not qualifying someone of the lancer comitte should comment on these and why. The only issue I see with these boots that they might require some colour added to the soles to mimic the amber/orange tone of the originals. *Edit they're available in 47 EU http://www.zahal.org/products/scout-commando-boots -

Andreas there are various boots matching the requirements elsewhere. for example boots like these: http://cgi.ebay.de/BOOTS-Schnurstiefel-Wil...=item19bb7c9786 Some also used the Palladium boots of the IDF (Israeli Defense Force) - these are available for order from europe as well. I ordered them once. These are very close to the original boots regarding build and soles but difficult to modify as some people report. Source is an ebay trader - need to look up the name in my mail history though. Here is what I mean just with attached gaiters: http://cgi.ebay.de/Israeli-Scorpion-Desert...=item4aa17852ea -
Well I would have payed 250 to get some... I just missed the first run and maybe I should be glad I missed the last one. However would be cool to have an alternative to poor substitutes and lots of luck on ebay.

I wonder why no one ever came up with doing replicas of his aquired real boots? I mean if Reinone did it - it could be done again with a capable artisan. and if it just was a cast of the plain soles.
