I'm also quite fond of this new development as I was already about to abandon the barc and GM project altogether. This gives me new hope to obtain first class from a first class
-
I hope those people know the envy of the whole legion is with them Congrats to a new and marvelous set of armor. I hope Santa Mike is enjoying a nice christmas break

I understand your disappointment and respect your decisions regarding this development but I can only hope that you stay with us and if it was just with your character and advice as both have become a valuable element among these forums. So losing a source for good work and future projects is already a considerable loss but losing the genius and good buddy you have been is a catastrophe. So I guess I speak for a number of individuals here when I say... take your time (...off if you want) but please don't disapear completely and for all time because things went like they did in a lot of cases. It's an act of disrespect and an exploit of your creativity and skill but think about those who you inspired and educated - those who won't let you down and don't just see in you - another guy doing the hard work for others of which a few try to jump on the bandwagon for profit. So - all disappointment and anger understood and granted - please keep that in mind. I'd be more afraid to lose someone who adds to the thinktank and atmosphere here on the forums than "just" a prop source. I hope you stay with us Phil

I think the major problem is the behaviour of the colour pigments, not the material itself so much. Would be a bummer to change the chin guard and tip armor every 3 years (ok some might not own the gear that long, but I'd plan to do so if I were in the place... ) So the colour issue is really an issue and one we cannot really test due to being a matter of time. Lining the shin guard is not only a good idea regarding stability etc. but it also might prevent or contain the sweat effect a bit. So much more comfortable!!
-
Hmm, this new information from Frank spoils the whole idea of having the flexible urethane tip armor and shin guards me thinks.
-
An option might be to use the front and rear. The raised part in front could be used as a seperate item to hide a seam that otherwise would be quite obvious in such an exposed location. On the other hand the CGI piece is not showing any evidence that this piece is even meant to be a seperate part. Quite tricky.
-
Very nice - looks as clean as machined. I wonder how you achieve such a clean surface in sculpting? when I think back of my schooldays I always had a hard time to get surfaces half way clean with any material.
-
Neat video - that's super flexible pu there. The bunch of armor parts lined up looks very impressive. Thanks for shareing and keep up the good work for those future Barc Troopers.

I get back to you when the time has come

I have looked everywhere I could but no sign of yard-goods. I guess I'm basing my quest on the wrong keywords. Also are there different products? A local ebay shop offers these but made from a poly-cotton fabric (65% poly) which I thought would be a bit difficult to dye.
-
I also wonder if - the darker we get - the olive tones will vanish too much instead of turning as dark as on screen? I'm not familiar with dyeing...
-
Hmm, have to talk with a fellow cosplay seamstress if that might be doable. But I think to tighten it up that way it needs really heavy modifications. Another challenge would be the pockets in case they have the extension folds like the US BDU. The BARC and GM ones don't have these but plain ones to the front. So there might be two sets of pants required to do the mods. The jacket is the next obstacle as it will be even more difficult to mod that one than the pants - and if you chose some sort of shirt (I've seen only Tees so far - no longsleeves) the material difference might mess up the tones of the dyed pieces. Or is there an overall too?
-
Is it possible to get the camo as yard goods? I want them to fit as tight as on screen and not so baggy - that'sy why I'm asking in case I go that route. I know that a lot of camp patterns are avalaible not fabricated.
-
From ankle to where I think the top should be I measure 30 cm (11.81") But actually my ankle sits lower than the end of your shin guard there.

I'd call it overly meticulous But I appreciate your appreciation - In most cases I earn frowns and snide remarks being a smartass hehe As for the razor tray I've had a new theorie. The shape of the t-bit embedment looks quite close to some of the standard batterie chargers. You have the cradle for the batteries with side openings to better take them out once charged and the "nose" where the stuff is lcated that actually loads the batteie (sorry I'm a doofus in physics and technics). And of course I'm going to show my process as I probably will need a lot of advice to handle it. It will be a secondary character from a manga TV series -
First of all - nice again seeing you documenting your design process. I think the faux leather you want to use is a bit too dark. Contrary to the Scouts the Barc uses chaps in light grey don't you think? Just look at your signature - it's a striking aspect in their apearal.

The finish line is in sight - now make sure the officers lose their advantage soon Great thigh box - I didn't know you planned to vacuform the pieces. ...well Mike I wish I had the talent of Frank and you - that would be a lot more practical in this hobby But as you both (other people too) do in depth build documentations I might take a chance doing something non star wars next year from concept to sculpt at least So thanks for teaching -

Very cool idea - thanks for the inspiration; I'm sure this technique is going to go into some more of my projects. -
Interested of course

haha, don't draw any conclusions from my big mouth - I'm a dwarf 176 cm / 5.77 ft. -
there's an ebay store here in germany selling these. I try to get in touch and ask if they do these in-house so they might be interested in selling some square meters.

kowabunga that's not dead on but quite close - if we wait some more fashion designers have kept up

Hey Frank - alwys good for a surprise from the hip hehe. Good to see your project progressing. I'm probably repeating myself but it's very cool you're showing how you achieve your goals - it inspires and educates . ....plus it looks better and better with every new step. Unfortunately I'm a bit too small but I wonder if you are able to reproduce some parts of your armor so that our bigger guys might have an option to get parts matching their size? -
holy... Mike that is the most beatifull paint job I've seen on an armor so far. If they ever use barcs in the live series they should make sure to hire you fo the prop department - that's absolutely fantastic. I hope we have some majopr acheivements on the soft part front soon so you can present your beauty as a whole.

Hey Mike - I've been absent from the boards the last weeks so I missed this update. We've already had a chat a month ot two back but I hope in the meanwhile you got a lot better. Nice to see that you've returned to your project. It will be ablast once finished as the WIP documentary has left us impressed already.
