Good to hear that. I've already feared you might have been absorbed by a black hole Hope you enjoyed the short recreation phase.

That's not someone that is Jason (Skygunbro) who got the moulds from Mike.

I think it's an interesting attempt . As you say the flash changed the colours I cannot say for sure but I think you should have used a darker almost black grey except for tan for the stripes to match the original. I know the magazine render is different from the screen cap but actually it apears to contain too much yellow and red while the lighting and colours of the screen cap look more natural. Also the stripe pattern seems to me a bit more connected and composed of longer stripes. But in general that's a good direction. What kind of colour and technique are you using? Stencils and can or airbrush?

Yes the Insider Barc has a moe geometric look. Lacking an untextured render of the BARC as seen for the GM on the sw.com gallery it cannot be said for sure if the mesh also features some of the details like the vent slots above the lens and the detailed shapes around the snout. But I think it's more certain that this is either an early concept illustration or completley made up by an artist outside of lfl. If there is a mention of the artist or source inside the article that would help but I haven't seen a complete scan yet.

I just checked on some ACU gears and it seems they're all of blended fabric composed of 50% cotton 50% nylon. The latter I think might be a problem in an attempt to dye the suit. Anyone tried it yet?
-
Well I think whatever happens your quality and origin will remain uncontested. Things happen but there will always be people who know where stuff is coming from and appreciate the pioneer spirit.

Yeah nice outfit - I wonder why you haven't applied earlier - What was missing? You know what the first photo looks almost real

The good thing is that Mike is open to critiques - from day one he was aksing for it and has worked with the people. I'm really gratefull that he has given us the chance to participate on that level. You know some artists can be quite difficult when it comes to critiques I'm still curious about the strapping *hint*

The problem I have now is ... I want to say something incredible about your work but I'm lost for words. That is pure-prop-porn. Do you use a real buckle system for the strapping or is it glued on?

The Acrylikhan Armor Project Files

I cannot say much about measurements as I don't have your shoulders here to compare. How about you take some cardboard and make a dummy. Will be a bit edgy at the top but you get an idea holding it to your shoulder. But keep in mind that you have to add some extra because of the overall and maybe vest (depending on how far you want to go). You know if I do a dummy now it will apear like a WH40K Space Marine armor anyways as you and me are like dwarf and giant in comparison. Dummies are cool - I made some of toilet paper during a "session" to test if my guessed figures of the scout belt would work.....-they worked for my size -

I'd rather suffer a bit in the boots than not having at least 90% authentic ones... -
The Acrylikhan Armor Project Files

Yeah, why aren't these on my desk already? Don't fear the criticism - in the end it helps and none of us can do miracles. -
Well actually I think a lot of stuff that is allowed in the legion gives me headackes but that's another discussion. I think while us perfectionists would agree there is still a "live and let live" policy in the 501st. ....you don't want someone like me as LMO There are good sides and bad sides of the coin as in anything regarding the flawed design of mankind. As for the image I've witnessed that only a percentage behind the comma is really distinguishing dead-on from pathetic. For the absolute majority it's enough that they can identify the movies they were taken from.

Jay is right - we need to agree on variations acceptable and on a colour scheme. The real life patterns only really affect the soft parts though as the armor can be coloured the way it is meant and documented in various screenshots and renders. Only thing that would disturb me would be - if someone would be able to recreate the BARC as we have seen them on screen but it wouldn't match the accepted range of patterns that was based on real life patterns and thus being sort of alienated. Though in the worst case I'd no problems do without having the gear listed as 501st costume. In the end my preferences for my costumes are priority over 501st and I have a listed costume already - so... .

@ Sentinel (you stole my name ) I don't know if it was a good idea to restrict the camo scheme too much. However I personally think the pattern you use for your helmet looks a bit off - not like bad, but more like woodland camo we know from the US army for example. The Barc uses different colours and more natural shapes. In the high res renders you see that the camo shows traces of brushes. A mixture of pea dot and swamp camo as we know it from WWII era german camo schemes but not exactly matching one in particular as another board member claimed in an earlier discussion. It's a crossover pattern adapting several schemes.

barc boots possible reproduction run
TB-7076 replied to abntroop's topic in Kashyyyk Trooper Soft Parts
My experience is that most people these days are have big feet - usually small people like me are disadvantaged regarding boot runs. Remember my survey in the scout boot section - most are around 12. I'd do soles that cover a range, eg. 10.5 the smallest which would mean I had to wear insoles and 2 pairs of socks and I need two pairs of boots....quite an expensive venture. -
It is actually a detail I plan to refine once I get to it. The problem with CGI models especially those meant for monumental shots do lack certain details in the mesh and have t go with textures to keep up the illusion. I for one have always enhanced my costumes to somehow match real life demands to a combat gear still maintianing the formal shape fo the movie original. One reason why I take so long developing and realizing a costume. For those who want to have this look Troy is mentioning I think it's not to difficult to mod the helmet. The changes don't affect crucial parts of the helmet. I think it's easier to do than modding a DP into something more satisfying

He probably doesn't work for them as Lucas Arts always messes with the chars. That's an outstanding colour job. And I really like the icon tohugh this means automatically I missed big time . New chin greeblies look great as well.
-
Looking forward to your shots gentlemen. I'm pretty sure they're going to be awesome
-
No headackes Mike But before you drop a "bomb" check back with me for some details. Can't await to see your complete set of hard pieces in colour. Oh man applying all the colour must be a time consuming part of the whole process. OT As we speak of soft parts - do you have any news regarding the project of Jason?

What do I do now with my 1mm rule?

Ok, my fault - I was talkig of poly urethane not silicone. Actually I don't like silicone though I have to admit I have no idea how many different types there are. My scarce experience with silicone comes from LARP where people use silicone coating for their foam weapons and armors etc. I've had a mask made of foam and silicone silver coloured and it was just ugly regarding the surfacial qualities. So I thought poly urethane being available in so many different consistencies would be the better choice but i'm open to some lectures of an expert in this field

Colour is a light-to-mid-grey. I thought it's possible to use pigments with PU?

To all new Lancers, please don't forget to mail me or someone of the BSN staff your "beauty shots" for the gallery once cleared for Lancer status. You invested so much labor and time in your costume to look good and to serve as an example of devoted costuming - now don't spoil your achievements and make sure you look good in the gallery as well. My general advice (as I got asked already): I'm not a specialist in photography but some things even us noobs can do to avoid emberassment or more work for the poor layouter who has to prepare the photos for the gallery (-> me ) Make pictures outside for better lighting and make use of the daylight instead of a flash. Indoor pictures often suffer from extreme contrasts and "tunnel effect" due to the flash as well as bad lighting in general. The steadier the cam the more crisp your picture and your apearance in the gallery. Best solution is a tripod or something but as most people don't pocess any you have to help yourself out or find someone who can hold things without jittering too much. American perspective just as we know it from the legion's front page rotation is optimal.
