For the gloves, I recommend that the greebs be sewn into the gauntlets. However, it does depend on the greeblie itself. Who did you get the greeblie from? If it's real thick and hard, yet flexible, they can be sewn in, but it would require a pretty good sewing machine and possibly a few sewing machine needles. I've gone through a few needles during the glove-making process. But, I figured out how to get them on. (After quite a few pairs.) Or you can hand sew them. (That's how I did them on my first few pairs. Plus some poking of my fingers. Use a thimble on this process.) Then I discovered that if I push my sewing machine hard enough, I can machine sew them on. (Plus breaking a few needles.) Not too fond of gluing with fabric. It could work. But for me, I need to know that the greeblie won't pop off while I am wearing it. Just my opinion.

How about Republic Credits?

Looks good! We might have to talk...

Yeah, just about all of the armor pieces should be painted and have camo on them before the greeblies are attached. The snaps and Velcro underneath the armor pieces can be done at any time. It's easier to have them on, such as the chest and back armor, to test for sizing, before you cut anything down. You want to have your straps attached to make sure the armor sits right on you. Then I usually spray the backside of the armor black. It's not required, but I like to have the dark look, so no white armor is showing from the back. The "camogrom' pattern looks very much like regular multi-cam. I think it would be okay for the pouches. Since multi-cam is accepted, I don't see a problem. Heatshock, what do you think? Just don't forget to give them some good "weathering" with black and a little white spray paint. "Misting." For the cod piece, cover it in monk's cloth. It's a soft material. And then paint it the base color of the armor, and give it some of the camo patterns. The cod usually matches the armor camo. Don't rush it. Take your time. You are on your way with a great costume. We need more Kashyyyk Troopers! Cheers!

Your pics look fine. You seem to be off to a good start. I wouldn't worry too much about the snout. That's just how it ended up, when being made. I have two like that. It didn't really bother me. You shouldn't notice it when you get it painted and have camo on it. Can't really see a good close up picture of the "camogrom" pattern. It looks like the multicam, but seems to have other things on it. Do you have a picture that has a better detail? It might not be a problem, but I'm just curious to see what the pattern looks like, up close. Keep up the great work and keep posting those progress pictures.

Gloves, gloves, gloves...Kashyyyk, that is.
Grumpy replied to Grumpy's topic in Kashyyyk Trooper Soft Parts
Cool. At one point, I did have the masters for the greeblie, but I have passed them around. (Literally...they have been to Germany, and Canada.) They are now in California, with BC's husband. I told them to make some to include with future Kashyyyk Trooper armor sets. Haven't heard back from them lately, though. -

I'd sure like to see pictures of those gauntlet greeblies, Comm Tech. -
Tan is the plan. That's how it should appear when the CRL gets up.

That's great!! You're number 30. Congratulations!!!

KASHYYYK TROOPER CRL 2013 - in discussion awaiting publication
Grumpy replied to Heatshock's topic in Kashyyyk Trooper HQ
Be forewarned that I tend to jump from the subject at hand, to other things that happen to pop into my brain at the time. "Scatterbrained" is a minor description. Deal with it. I have been in the background for a bit now, just reading all of what is going on. I also, am getting tired of the "well, it looks more like this..." stuff. I will be very happy when the final CRL, with photo examples, is posted on the main 501st site. So, when it's done, then that is what will be followed. No more discussion on changes. Opinions and discussions have already happened. There has been more than enough time on all of this. It will be done soon. There will always be disagreements. Here, and with other costumes. This has been the costume that I have been most involved with. Out of the four costumes that I have owned, I have had this one the longest. Plus, with the upgrades that I am working on with mine, I have also made one for my wife, my son, built one for a Garrison mate, and built one for my daughter. (Just a little background info for ya.) I have never said that I was an expert on this costume. I just like to help new Kashyyk builders when I can. I just enjoy building them and seeing the completed result. My help and advice is always available for anyone that asks. I didn't design them or make the armor, but for the people that ask, I always let them know who the makers and designers are. Those people will always get the credit. (PGHFett, Mr. Bungle, and now BikerChick. If I have forgotten anyone, please let me know.) Plus, there are those I believe have done great things with this costume, who are in my opinion, the pioneers of the Kashyyyk Trooper. And they are Mr. Bungle, Lonescout, and Heatshock. Since I got into this character, back in 2009, the was a small CRL to follow. Back then it was in agreement and that was what was followed. (I almost had a green tinted cummerbund, because that was the color that was decided, at that time. It was then decided that it looked grey. And that was by using the screen pics. So...whew!) It was only recently that 1 person's "opinion" started this latest uproar to make a new CRL that was more screen accurate. That's fine as well. And it seemed to be done in much haste. But, oh well. So, to those that are just building this costume, welcome. There will be a finalized CRL soon. Bear with us. This has come from the past few years of investigation, screen captured images, comparison with pre-production concept models, original designs, the "Super-secret rare 3-D imagry", and other members previous costumes. It's comparison and contrast. All of the guidelines will help you to create a Kashyyyk Trooper that is similar, not exact, from the characters seen in Ep. III. (Can't get "exact" because it's CGI. We have nothing tangible to compare with. And the "shadow play" that happens with these characters is awful.) There will always be opinions on color, texture, and how a particular piece of armor is assembled and worn. That's all great and dandy! Yes, there have been a couple of changes in different part colors, such as the riding patch. I've had a grey patch for the past four years. Because that was what I followed in the CRL. I have only, within the past week, just changed it to the "oatmeal' or tan color. I have also finally upgraded to the dark brown dyed British DPL Desert Camo pants and shirt. For those past four years, I have had a dark brown dyed version of Canadian military camouflage. The time and money has been a big factor in "modernizing" my costume. I don't know if anything of what I have said actually means anything. The "modernized" and "updated" CRL will be available soon. (At least that's how I see it from what has been posted.) Please be patient and follow it when it's completed. From then on, that is what will be recommended to complete a Kashyyyk Trooper costume. There will always be disagreements and opinions on colors and styles, and etc. But, like Nate said, we have to have a final version, or this will continue forever. On one particular note, I would like to say that I am very happy with the latest Kashyyyk Troopers to be approved. With the individual camo designs that these new , and older, members have painted on their armor, it makes me happy. And amongst the compromises to the CRL is that there are no exact patterns for the camouflage that is applied to the Kashyyyk Trooper's armor. Maybe someone will be able to duplicate the CGI coloring on their armor. That would be spectacular. But, for those that are already approved, or are currently building, do not be harsh on your "critique" of their armor. Not everyone will have the same camo "pattern" because there is no set pattern. They are similar, yet different in their paint style. For me, that's perfectly okay. I also believe that this is one of the most difficult costumes to assemble. Trying to find all of the parts, the gloves, the boots, and then getting rubber pieces to stick to the plastic armor. There is a lot of things to do with this costume. But, look, we almost have 30 Kashyyyk Troopers. We are catching up with, and will hopefully surpass, the Galactic Marines. (No reason, just for fun. I mean hey, they have some similar parts to the Kashyyyk Trooper. Just sayin'.) So, "Let's go 41st Elite - Recon!" And...... "Shut up and troop!" Cheers! Grumpy END OF LINE -
Huh??

I've seen others approved with that style for the pouches. It's all up to the individual GML's. It does need some spray paint misting on the pouches, though. That would cover some of the design, but still have the camo show through. Overall, it looks like a great build. The tank looks great. The knees will always droop. Mine have been doing it for four years. Still have to push them up, every now and then. Do you have a close-up pic of the thigh pouches?

Patrick "Admiral Targeta" BARC Trooper build
Grumpy replied to Admiral Targeta's topic in Kashyyyk Trooper HQ
Hey Brent, since you already have my address, I'll expect the tusken on my doorstep within a week. -
Actually Allan, the riding patch was grey when I first started. It wasn't until "someone" went all about, to inform us that we were all wrong. At the time grey was correct and accepted. Now it's tan, or "oatmeal." If you've seen some of the "oatmeal" I make, you wouldn't want your riding patch that color. They run into "problems" because the some of the GML's out there decide it's up to what they like and not what's been referenced. But, oh well. I mean it's not like there's a website that has these references pictures and topics to compare submitted pictures with, now is there? (All sarcasm intended...)

Hey, thanks for sharing the pics. Looking real good!!
-
Sorry. Not this year. Funding is at a low, right now. Possibly next year, with my whole family of Kashyyyk Troopers.
-
Base color looks good. Belt looks great! I want to see a close up pic of the elbow straps. They look good in the pic!
-
Armor and camo look great, by the way!!

Time to get that armor dirty! You would be a hero if you got those vinyl lines made up. After you get the decals on, give it a coat of flat clear, to seal them on. (And then get them dirty!!)

Custom Costume Box (stolen idea from IRONFETT @ CTN)
Grumpy replied to Death Recon's topic in Kashyyyk Trooper HQ
And with that, I had to do my other bins, and the rest of the family's as well... My Commander Bly My wife's Kashyyyk My son's Kashyyyk My son's Shocktrooper And my daughter's Junior Kashyyyk (She has the smaller size armor bin.) I also painted Tunnel Rat's a similar style. His armor bin has white and blue colors, so he can use it to haul his Snowtrooper, as well. Cheers! -
Custom Costume Box (stolen idea from IRONFETT @ CTN)
Grumpy replied to Death Recon's topic in Kashyyyk Trooper HQ
Old news, man...I did mine back in 2009! Hey Recon, here's that nameplate I was telling you about. -
I believe the greenwash is an older recommemdation, and not a requirement. If you go too far with it, the armor will have a green appearance. As it has been discussed before, there is a lot of shadow play with the CGI characters on screen, so the colors are hard to duplicate into real life. The consensus has been a khaki base color with the brown and green camo colors on top of that. If you wish to do the green wash, I suggest to try it on an extra piece of armor, or a small part, and see what you think. A couple of troopers have used green wash, but it wasn't too green. But, the majority of the Kashyyyk Troopers have stayed with the base khaki color. And like bselphfsu282 said, your GML will end up letting you know.
