1. The ROTJ and Mando Scouts are very different not only in appearance, but the undersuits are completely different. If you plan to do a ROTJ scout, the CRL is pretty specific that the armor may be “lightly weathered”. Whereas the Mandalorian scout calls for moderate to heavy desert-brown toned weathering.” Mixing and matching isn’t a good idea if you’re goal is to have an approved costume in the 501st. As Mickey mentioned above, if you go straight Mandalorian and add a little black to the weathering you should be okay, but you should double check with your GML. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
2. Captain Doof when I first jumped into this, I checked out the Ultimate Armor Comparison thread which lists all of the armors currently being made, then once I found a few I really liked, I began researching their websites online. Keep in mind that several sell their merch through Facebook, so you’ll need an account if you aren’t already on FB if you plan to order from one of those vendors. http://forum.501stpathfinders.com/index.php?/topic/17774-the-ultimate-armor-comparison-thread/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
3. Congrats Joe! Well deserved. I knew you knocked this one out of the park when the armorers merely wanted minor dressing issues corrected. You’re attention to detail in your build made this a sure win! Welcome to the ranks brother! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
4. Hey Jeremy, keep in mind that the CRL is comprised of not just the written description but also the images. They go hand in hand, so your leaning towards the CRL image is spot on as those images will take precedent over any other images you come across. I’m sure an armorer will confirm so wait to hear from Chopper or Retrofire before gluing anything down. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
5. Looking forward to your approval and joining the ranks as a fellow Scout. Good luck Ty! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
6. Stunning job Paul! I’ve been following this for a while and itching to see everything finished. Your paint job is fantastic. Just awesome. And using the tarp that you spray painted your build on for a backdrop was a cool touch to your photos. Loved seeing the outlines of your armor pieces on there. Well done trooper! 7. Looks like 2021 is shaping up to be a good year for you Nathan! Looking forward to seeing your build come together. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
8. Looking sharp Jeremy! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
9. Cat, great job. Told you Retrofire and Chopper really know their stuff. [emoji6] I’m no Mando Scout expert by any means but looking at the CRL for the Mando and ROTJ Scout, I think you can lower your belt by an 1 or 2. It’s placement for the Mando is similar to the ROTJ so it should sit at your belly button (you might even be able to set it just under you belly button if you make the adjustments to the bund Pete suggested). The cummerbund and cod merely slide down. If I’m wrong someone will correct me. Great idea to mock everything up. Measure twice, cut once as they say. Again, well done. 10. For Q2...check out the Magic of the Myth photos here: http://forum.501stpathfinders.com/index.php?/topic/19697-the-magic-of-myth-photos/ Great reference for any scout build. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
11. That’s awesome Mike. Your cool factor with your fellow airmen just went up! As for the weathering, our very own Constantin made a video tutorial a couple of years ago. It might be helpful to see the “technique.” You definitely want to experiment on something like a board, scrap pieces, etc. to get distance and pressure dialed in. When you spray, start with it directed off the side of the piece and rake it across. If you start to spray directly on the piece rather than off to the side you may end up with “blaster” marks if you press too heavy or let it linger too long. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
12. Awesome news Sean! Make sure to start a WIP thread once you’re ready to begin your build. That way the armorers will be able to see when you post updates and chime in as needed. http://forum.501stpathfinders.com/index.php?/forum/96-biker-scout-wip/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
13. Perfect! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
14. You should be! This is coming along quite nice. Well done!
15. Dude, wicked photos! You look great! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
16. I know that some people have used heat guns on their armor parts, but given your lack of experience with heat guns I would be hesitant to recommend that route. The armorers over at FISD discourage that method if you don’t have experience b/c it is too easy to over do it and wreck your armor. I don’t see too many in this forum talk of using it, as most just cut and trim the armor to fit. What I have seen here is the hot bath method. The one’s who can really guide you on how to get the armor to fit your sizing needs are Chopper and Retrofire . The armorers here are the best. Give them a chance to chime in before you lay down cash on a heat gun. Also, Jedi Jeannie’s thread is a good reference, but it’s from 2007. A lot has changed with the CRL over the last 13 years so make sure to have the current CRL on hand. I know this isn’t your first rodeo with the 501st, but thought I’d mention it anyway. I hate to see you construct something wrong based on outdated info. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
17. They’re great gloves. They are true to size. Keep in mind that they are lined too. Some scouts opt to remove the lining to keep the gloves a little on the cooler side to wear. Mine are a large with the lining and I have no problem with heat, but everyone is different so YMMV. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
18. I can’t see your photos, but our very own BikerScout007 used these for his build and I think others may have used this source as well. https://www.uniformswarehouse.com/striped-polyester-slacks-68986.html Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
19. Yep. I just used a hairdryer on max heat for my boots and it did the trick just fine. Not sure what you’re planning to do with the heat gun and the armor, but be careful because you can easily and quickly ruin the plastic if your inexperienced. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
20. Nice job on the sole! You’ll be fine for basic because there’s no requirement for the soles to be cut. The fact you’re cutting them is one less thing you’ll have to do for L2 certification, and they look good to me for L2. I’m sure an armorer will be along to confirm once they see your post.
21. Hey Jeremy! Welcome to the best detachment in the Legion and thanks for the kudos! You’ll find many Scouts here eager to help you succeed! Looking forward to seeing your progress and feel free to hit me up with any questions you may about my WIP along the way. I’m really excited for you and great choice for your first build to join the Legion. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
22. Don’t sell yourself short on the ROTJ option. Many scouts, myself included, have weathered their armor as opposed to going all shiny parade style white, so you may be able to mask some of your “authentic battle damage” from years of wear and trooping with a little weathering. Keep your options open and as you get further into your build you’ll figure out what will be best for you. We’re here to help ya succeed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
23. Fantastic print job! The detail on these greeblies is sweet! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
24. They look good. Make sure to carefully cut the plastic clips from the gloves though. That’s the only mod needed for Wampa’s gloves. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
25. Justin, you are the bomb brother! [emoji41]Thanks for this and all your 3D expertise that you so willingly share with others in the detachment. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
