  1. I think I would look for a bottle cap or similar with the correct diameter (check ref pics and compare it with the size of the top). Then make a hole and glue the cap underneath. The inside of the cap must be (made) smooth of course. Other options are cutting a small piece from a plastic pipe and a piece of plastic to close the bottom.
  2. Sole looks a bit thin, but if you make it black (rubbery black, not pure black paint) it would be acceptable for basic. And of course it needs weathering to make them darker. The boot is not very tall, so you might have issues keeping your shins over your boots.
  3. I prefer a hard hat liner over foam. More airflow around your head, and the helmet follows your head movement much better than foam in my opinion.
  4. I'm not sure what happened at the rear of the legs, but that T-shaped cover is not correct. The cover strip consists of two layers, a thick bottom one and a second one on top of that one (actually slightly recessed in the screen used costume). This is the screen used, left is the Rogue One TK which has the same cover strip. Also note that the shins in the picture are not dressed properly and are slightly open. You can make one like this with pieces of abs. Also you shouldn't use tape to keep those straps up. Use something like velcro to connect them to the shins. The buckle should not be mounted on the front armor piece of the shin, but moved to the side. There should a piece of the strap visible in front of the buckle like this. This also applies to the bottom buckle. The vents of the right greeblies box and the edge around lower left insert should be painted too,
  5. A CRL consists of text and images and you have to consider both. So even the text makes no mention of the color of the soles, if the images show a black sole it’s what you should be aiming at. That said, if you have a dark brown sole that is hardly distinguishable from black it would be approvable for basic level.
  6. Height is 10 inch, width 6 inch
  7. Welcome Michael! If you have any questions just post them here!
  8. That looks great Paul! Would love to get one for my future Nico helmet when you’re done!
  9. Hi Luis! It’s possible to modify that area. You first need to cut this area marked in red to create an opening (on both halves of the shin). Then fill the edge where you cut it off. If there’s no cover strip in your kit then you can create one yourself. I had to do that for my shins too, check my build thread to see how I did this: http://forum.501stpathfinders.com/index.php?/topic/16967-scaryguys-bsp-shoretrooper-grunt-squad-leader/&do=findComment&comment=159330
  10. Welcome! Good to see another future Shoretrooper! The helmet is big but I don’t think it’s going to be an issue when you have the armor on. It will make you a bit more bulky. Use sanding/grinding bits and mill bits for your dremel to remove the excess resin. For the large areas you could also use a larger drill to drill holes and then cut it off. With a dremel that would take a long time. Yes, you should sand down the logo at the helmet bottom edge, weird place to put a logo there. Yes, can make that helmet Vanguard approvable, the eyebags are already there. As for armor recommendations, we don’t endorse specific vendors so it’s up to you to make that choice. Here’s the list of current vendors. Browse through the Vanguard approvals to see what types of armor have been used. Some kits will require (a lot) more work than others to get them to Vanguard level.
  11. It’s called an oiler pouch and it normally comes with the M56 ammo pouch. Sometimes it doesn’t, so check with the seller the oiler pouch is included.
  12. Does the width and the chest back match? Some room (showing the undershirt) between the shoulder bells and the chest/back wouldn’t be a big issue. I find the knee pieces also small. When I bend my knees they flex a lot, so although it looks like a flexible costume I don’t like to squat down etc. Good luck exercising 😉! When you get into costuming you really have to choose a weight and stick with it 😃.
  13. The shoulder bells were also a bit too large for me, so I trimmed them near the chest. I think I cut 10 mm or so. I also put foam on the inside of the shoulder bells to push them out.
  14. Congrats Kris!
  15. I had a similar experience, I bought my boots from a vendor here on the forums. He used a purple marker to draw out the dog bones. That started bleeding on my first troop where it was quite hot and my boots were getting moist ☹️. Still planning to make a new pair myself.
  16. Congrats!
  17. Welcome Kalei! Good to read you are aiming for Vanguard. If you plan this from the start this should not take a lot extra effort over basic, it's about getting the right parts from the start. Read through the Vanguard Standards for a more detailed explanation of the level 2 requirements. Also check the Vanguard deployment requests from others, be reading the feedback you get a idea of the most common issues when people are applying for Vanguard. http://forum.501stpathfinders.com/index.php?/forum/160-vanguard-deployment-request/
  18. Sorry, I don’t. I also don’t think there is a direct conversion from Montana Gold to Pantone. But the color you are using looks fine for basic approval. Can you take a picture outdoor with natural lighting? That will probably give a better impression of the actual color.
  19. The strap that covers the bridge of the foot is different from the ROTJ version, it’s rectangular instead of a dog bone shape. The CRL allows both, but if you want you can be the first to go with the rectangular ones 😉.
  20. You’re welcome! Here’s a picture of the Red Orange next to the Pantone color to give you an idea of the color to look for.
  21. Good to see you created a WIP! Overall the helmet looks good, here are some remarks: There should be an extra black line near the visor. The ridge along the bottom of the lens opening should be black, and ideally stop before the nose. On your helmet it continues along the nose to the other side. The emblem should be an orange-red color. Montana Gold Red Orange is a good alternative for the Pantone color mentioned in the CRL. The sahara beige color looks a bit light in the picture, did you give the entire helmet a black wash? Good be just the lighting or camera. Weathering looks good though!

Hi Luis! Can you post pictures from all sides so we can have a good look at it? First impression is good, nice weathering!
  23. That’s a fast build 😉! Congrats!
  24. In the first picture the gauntlet looks textured which it shouldn’t be, but in the second picture it looks the same as the rest of the glove. So If the latter is the case these should be good for approval (without the straps).
  25. Don't rely on CRL pictures only, these are from different armor makers and can have inaccuracies. Check the CRL for which details need to be present, then use reference pictures of the original costume to determine how it should look and get measurements from. Here you can find several sources: http://forum.501stpathfinders.com/index.php?/forum/151-shoretrooper-reference-pictures/
