This Visual Guide has been reviewed by the detachment staff and the LMO team and is certified for use as a minimum approval guideline for GMLs. GMLs are free to approve this costume type. This document is not intended to be a detailed how-to on costume construction; rather a visual guide to be used for 501st costume approval. Details on construction may be found on the respective costume detachment web forum. GMLs uncertain about an aspect of submitted costume shall post questions in the appropriate DL/GML peer review section of the Legion forum. Measurements given in this document are intended to be approximate and generalized; not criteria for approval. Requirements for all 501st costumes are proportional to the wearer in scale, fit and size. Text descriptions are only one part of the guideline. GMLs and costumers must consider both text and pictures (CRL and Reference) when reviewing the costume. Required Costume Components The following costume components are present and appear as described below. Helmet Lenses are smoky brown or gray in color. May be bubble in shape or flat. Sufficiently dark enough to obscure the costumer's eyes. A single silver aerator/mic tip cylinder is on lower left side of the wearer's chin. Seven cut-out tube stripe slots are on each side of the helmet. Two clip greeblies are present over the traps on the side. Two clip greebles are present on the top of the helmet, parallel to the trap greeblies. Along the base of the helmet a black stripe runs from the side of the helmet and across the back to the other side. A slight groove circumvents the helmet above the brow. A slight grove circumvents the helmet along the bottom and over the chin. A brow of solid black material spans from the traps over the lenses. A small trapezoidal stripe is directly below the traps toward the base of the helmet. OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): Helmet is TLJ/TROS version. Mouth area is angled and has 7 teeth with mesh/grill behind. The clip greeblies must be the correct TLJ/TROS version. Neck Seal Black with horizontal ribs. Fitted to the wearer. Extends from the base of the neck to conceal the entire neck. No hair or skin should be visible around the neck area. OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): The neckseal has a glossy finish. Chest Plate The chest plate overlaps the abdominal plate. The center-top of the chest plate is recessed and black on the side and upward facing edges. A logo consisting of five black aurebesh-type characters followed by one red symbol is beneath the recess. A smaller clasp greeblie is present on each side of the chest, just inside a small indented area the size of the greeblie. A slight groove runs vertical on each lateral side of the chest that angles toward the center. Six recessed black ovals are on the wearer's right side, left of the greeblie. OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): Grooves on sides of chest should show clear separation. Six recessed black ovals are cut out and backed with black material. Back/Yoke The back plate contains a "O II" design, and the O is black in color. No visible seams on the back/yoke. The yoke portion extends over the wearer's shoulders and curves under the armpits. OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): There are no support tabs. Thermal Detonator The mounting plate sits under the back plate and rests above the belt. The control panel is black. One horizontal box has an indent running vertically just off center. 2 large vertical black cloth pouches with a white cover are behind the left side and right sides of the wearer. 2 small black cloth pouches are worn on the left side and right sides one of which hides the buckle or remaining belt material. 3. See you on May the 4th!
  4. Hey Pathfinders! If you're like me, you are pretty bummed out that all our troops have been cancelled due to controlling the COVID-19 pandemic. It's great to have this time to work on upgrading kits, but nothing can replace the joy of trooping. While it is very important that we continue to social distance and let this virus die out, I'd like to invite the Detachment to join me on a virtual troop on May the 4th. Suit up in your Pathfinder costume, take a picture and post it up in the thread I create that day, both here on the forum and on our FB page. When you post your pic, please don't forget to add your TB, CB or ST-ID. Unfortunately this won't count as an official 501st Troop, but every Pathfinder who joins our virtual May the 4th Troop will get a "2020 Supporter" badge added to their forum profile. May the 4th be with you! EDIT: We've added a charitable element to the troop. Please see this thread for more details:

  7. Folks Chris has asked me to clean up this WIP thread. He just wants it to be his progress pics plus any comments from the Armor team. Feel free to start a discussion in the Mando Scout forum if y'all want to talk shop. Chris, I'm locking this thread for now. When you are ready to post more progress pics, PM me and I will unlock for you!
  8. Thanks buddy! I actually consulted this a year ago when I was building the first time. A lot of help! The issue I'm having is I couldn't remember which glue I used! But I figured it out yesterday. It was the Welder's Contact Adhesive. I've gotten both of the lower straps on and will be moving to the upper straps today.
  9. Hey Cam! As @Hask explained above, the 501st Patrol Trooper is based off of canon sources. And "CHiPs" is just a fun name for our builders who have achieved Level 2 status. We have a name for each of our costume families that achieve level 2. Scouts are Lancers, Kashyyyks are 41st Elite, Shoretroopers are Vanguards and Patrols are CHiPs. That's all the name means. The best way to think about the 501st Legion is not as cosplay but as re-enactors. Our goal as an organization is to try to come as close to mimicking what we see on screen as possible, so we give all the folks who come out to see us the closest experience they can get to being in the Star Wars galaxy. Now I am all for cosplay and I do that with other IPs, but when it comes to Star Wars, I keep it screen accurate. By all means, if you want to buy Patrol Trooper armor and paint it a different color and all that stuff, you are absolutely welcome to. But it's something you'd be doing on your own and separate from the 501st Legion. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that! I see it all the time at various conventions. Hope that all makes sense, and that you still want to build a screen accurate Patrol Trooper costume for approval to the Legion!
  10. Just make sure it's in the proper position when you go for approval!
  11. That's correct. As of now, the neck seal is mandatory! We're still waiting on Sebastian's photos. I understand he's fairly busy as a first responder in NYC right now, so that's the reason for the delay.
  12. Hmm, I think I might need a new tube, because it slid right off. It's a tube I've had for a long time. One of my straps didn't come with a webbing backing and that's the one I tried first. I tried it again with Welder's Contact Adhesive and so far it's holding. I'm going to get a new tube of E6000 and give the other straps a go with it. Thanks!
  13. We're pretty sure it's not elastic but yeah, that's why the thigh straps are there!
  14. What did you use to glue your straps to your shins? I'm already having trouble with that. I can't remember what I used last time LOL
  15. These are the current boot requirements: Boots White and may be lightly weathered. The soles of the boot are tan. A "dog bone" shaped strap covers the bridge of the foot. Dog bones have double stitching along the rounded edges as seen in the film. The boots are secured up the back using 25mm (1 inch) white hook and loop fastener. The calf of the boot rises to just slightly underneath the bottom of the knee armor. Left boot closure is left-over-right. Right boot closure is right-over-left. OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): The boots have slots cut into the heels and toes as seen in the film. The boot sole is a single color with no visible stitching. Boots that are constructed too wrinkled (i.e not stretched/fitted correctly prior to gluing) or poor in appearance will be refused. The cuts and single color sole are level 2 requirements. However, you should always check with your local GML.
  16. In the film, the bund stopped at the belt, it rarely went under or behind it. And in those shots we can see there's no seam at the bottom. That's where that requirement comes from, because for Lancer, you're going to be asked to lay out all your gear and take photos of it so we can closely check the construction!
  17. Panda's thread is old, but most of the techniques in it still apply. So it's worth a look. There are any number of build threads to be found here: http://forum.501stpathfinders.com/index.php?/forum/96-biker-scout-wip/ And there's also Strider's Lancer build thread which is very popular: Hope these help!
  18. Those don't look too long to me. Are they uncomfortable to walk around in?
  19. @TK8271 Rogue Trooper @ScaryGuy: Bone Buddrus attaches a strip of webbing to the back of the upper shin straps. Not sure if I should keep it, remove it, use it to glue to the armor, etc. What do y'all think?
  20. Newb questions is why we are all here! I've seen them done with the belt running all the way through. Not exactly sure of the build method though. Glue would probably work though you'd find few places to glue it to. But like you said it doesnt matter for approval. We never judge the costumes on what happens behind the scenes, only what can be seen from the outside. And that goes for Level 2 as well. As for whether it was nylon or polypro, we've got this pic to go on: That looks like polypro to me, but nylon was put into the CRL way before I came along. We give the option for either.
  21. Great! And remember you can have a lot of free play on the side straps. You don't need the armor to close up tight like a clam shell. The chest straps should be long enough to allow the armor to open up when you are changing positions, like jumping on your speeder bike!
  22. It looks like it's a good fit. You'll need to snip off some of the shoulder strap so they dont overlap. They should abut, but not overlap. Try it on with your soft goods so you can really see how it's going to fit though!
  23. Added to the roster! Thanks for taking the lead on this.
  24. Better late than never! We've learned a whole lot about the Scout costume since 2015 and we've got a crack Armory Team on hand to help.
  25. New Bone Buddrus chest buckles went on easily with CA glue.
