Ziptied Shoulder Bells: A tutorial
BikerScout007 replied to BikerScout007's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
I believe glue was how it was done in the film, so you are in great company. I originally did it that way but switched to Velcro when I built my Strider kit. Sent from my LG-H872 using Tapatalk -
Hey Scouts I'm pleased to see more and more Scouts using ziptie T-straps on their builds. We're not TKs! We always do things better! With that in mind, here's the way I do it. It may not work for everyone, but I have found this is the way that has worked best for me so far. I want to thank Lancer Scout Justin "MrPoopie" for help with this. So here's what you're going to need: 2 Shoulder bells 6 Ziptie anchors 6 Zipties (the length doesn't matter because they will be cut down, but 8 inch minimum should be fine) 1/2 inch elastic strap (as called for in the Lancer CRL. I used 1/4 inch here) Industrial strength velcro. Seriously, if your velcro doesn't hold a fire extinguisher to the wall, get something else. Your shoulders go through a lot of wear and tear during a troop if you do more than just stand around. And who wants to stand around? Like I said above, we're not TKs! 1. measure a segment of 1/2 inch elastic around your arm. Make sure you are wearing your vest. You want it tight but not so tight that your shoulder bell doesn't "float". Stitch, knot or glue it into a loop, then affix it to a ziptie anchor with 1 ziptie. Cut off the excess and then stick the ziptie anchor into the bell, closer to the center than the edge: 2. Loop another ziptie around another anchor and then cut off enough to leave about 4 inches of ziptie, measuring from the edge of the anchor. Then affix the ziptie anchor to the bell so that it leaves about an inch and a half of ziptie protruding from the top of the bell: 3. So at this point, what you have should look like this: 4. On your third ziptie anchor, remove the plastic covering the sticky end and cut out a square of industrial velcro loop to cover the entire end. 5. Place the ziptie anchor, velcro facing up, around the ziptie that will serve as the T-bridge to the bell. 6. Take your last ziptie and run it down the other end of your ziptie bridge until it clicks into place. That way you know it is locked 7. Cut off the excess of the third ziptie, leaving only the cap to act as a stopper 8. Your completed Shoulder bell should look like this: 9. Take two strips of industrial velcro hook, peel off the plastic covering the sticky backs, and affix it to the inside of your shoulder bridges: 10. Affix the loop on the ziptie bridge to the hook on the chest armor and your bells are now in place! The bells will stay there forever if you leave them, but if you need to take them off for any reason, it is easy to do so. I hope this helps! Scout or Die!

Scouts helping Scouts! Well done

If you have any specific questions about kits, post up your concerns in the appropriate Forum. We've got a lot of great Armorers on the board that will jump in with fast answers!

Welcome to the Pathfinders Forum! Please read up in the Biker Scout Armory to start your research and post questions http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showforum=3 What part is easiest to get started on depends on your skill level. If you can sew and make the soft goods yourself, you can get started on that while you wait for your helmet and armor kits to come in. If not, then it really depends on whom you buy from and who ships you your stuff first. Some vendors have less wait time than others. A lot of folks start with gloves because Wampa Wear usually has them ready in stock.

Do it!

Be sure your troopers stay hydrated and don't pass out from exhaustion Be sure if any bits fall off their costumes, you scoop them up and try to get them back on Be sure kids don't try to steal thermal detonators and holstered weapons Be prepared to be handed people's phones a lot to take pictures of them with the troopers!

Where to get correct Bolts Question?
BikerScout007 replied to 0XlX0's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
As long as it looks correct from the outside, we don't concern ourselves with how it was done on the inside! On my first bucket, a KS, I took off their furniture pad bolts and just glued painted aluminum discs in their place! -
Advance Recon Team (ART) discussion
BikerScout007 replied to BikerScout007's topic in Advance Recon Teams
Believe me, if it were up to me, the Detachments would approve the costumes, not the Garrisons....but that's a battle for another day. The ARTs were created to give the Detachment more of a face in the Garrison and pick up the "Pathfinder-curious" that have a better time learning in a group setting than reading a forum. Since starting Scout Team Six in 2015, the number of Scouts in my Garrison has boomed. And a lot of those folks also have gone onto become Lancers. Now would I prefer if everyone came to the Forum? Of course! But we have to deal with the world the way that it is, not the way we wish it was. I hope to see both of you guys heavily involved in ARTs soon! -

BikerScout007 replied to BikerScout007's topic in Advance Recon Teams
Unfortunately a lot of this is the case. The Detachment is here to create the costume guidelines and give build help, but the Garrison does the approving and really everything is done through them as far as your membership in the Legion. Plenty of folks sign up for the Detachment, get approved, and never come back. Some never sign up at all. (But they all sure as heck show up for a good merch run!) I'm grateful to everyone that sticks around here to improve their costume or to help others. The ARTs are, as Ken said, meant to be a local mentor program. To promote the brand, hold armor parties, and keep folks clued in to what's happening with the Detachment. I don't know how others do it, but Scout Team Six requires folks that join to also join the Forum. -

Advance Recon Team (ART) discussion

I think there's some confusion here ARTs are like branch offices of the Detachment in each Garrison. They aren't controlled by the Garrisons. -

There are quite a few Shoretrooper armor printing threads in the forum. Here is one, for example http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=18820

Not sure why snaps never really made it over, but if I had to guess it would be because the Scout is meant to be a more active, mobile and adjustable costume and snaps might keep things a little too rigid. But as long as the outside appearance looks the same, use snaps to your heart's content!

I hear Jim Tripon was making a Praetorian guard, but I think the CRL is still being hashed out. But welcome to the forum! We are here to help Not familiar with HQarmours, I'd have to take a look at it. Jim Tripon, BSP, 850 and Imperial Depot also make Shoretrooper kits

Happy Monday, Pathfinders! With the herculean efforts of Mr. Steve Leahy, we now have Admin control over the forum. Not all issues have been resolved and some steps will need to be taken in the coming weeks to ensure we have full control over everything, but we are 90% of the way there. Steve will be temporarily joining us as Webmaster to help smooth things over. So give him a big round of applause! He will also accept payment in Tiki drinks, as I found out on Saturday night!

New Build - New to Forum.
BikerScout007 replied to skipzero's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
This area is fine to post in! Maybe you can continue to use this thread to show us your build progress! The most common way to attach straps to the hard plastic is with velcro. Sewing the velcro hook to the strap and then affixing velcro loop with sticky tape on the back of it to the inside of the armor. I actually hot glued my straps to my armor, so that's another way to do it. The slits in my armor pieces were cut very thin so they would do a good job of holding the strap, and the glue does the rest! -

Hey Pathfinders! We are really excited to bring you the long-awaited Logo t-shirt run. One of my long-time goals was to have an ongoing shirt run that wasn't limited to just a few weeks so members wouldn't feel like they had missed out if they didn't get their order in on time. Thankfully, our awesome Merch Officer came through and we now have an Ongoing run! http://forum.bikersc...showtopic=18919 Now these shirts are only for 501st members, but due to our current site problems, we are having issues verifying and upgrading accounts. If you haven't been able to at least get upgraded to 501st member status, you won't be able to see the thread on this site. Therefore, we have set up a thread on the 501st.com forum for purchases as well https://www.501st.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=98617 If you are a 501st member, but don't have 501st or Pathfinder status here yet, head on over there to make your purchase. And if you aren't a 501st member yet -- don't worry. This run is ONGOING! That means get your costume done, get approved and then get a shirt!
