Andy is pushy due to the small window of opportunity - I can understand that. So how about refreshing the contact that already existed and try get some more in depth answers quickly? I can't imagine they will use that design again for a broad market. So minimum figures per size and the costs are important. The next peoblem in the case we let it produce by company is handling and distribution! We have to develop a plan then too. Should there be an adaption for the mass market it would be a marvel - really. In case of Andy's proposal we would have propper tools to make soles and would need to find an upper boot base and the know how to combine these two elements. What sizes do we need or which size would cover most of the demand? Another question we have to solve in case of limited runs.

I know that feeling from various projects where I voiced opinions and even then details got neglected But be assured - I wouldn't have spent so many $$$ to forget about that detail on the finishing line. That's the reason why I'm trying to get the best people and infra structure on the project. Details like the diamond patterns of the toe tip and side panels are probably no problem for a boot company. If limited to Scout needs it can be neglected as it will be covered and might be less difficult to glue or sew on the "chaps" later on. I have a question to Andy about his contacts to the company. Did the guy said anything about minimum quantities each size? We probably need quite a base of interest and should mobilize rebel endor commandos as well using the same boot base. My guess is that it would need at least 100 pieces per size to justify the tools and keep the boot at an expensive but affordable price for collectors. I'd order 3 for two Biker Versions and an endor commando but would we get the needed interest and numbers seeing how content peopleare with their bulky work boot substitutes? That is the question.

I know - once we have someone on it that was planned anyways. I alread marked the lines for the ridges on the sole

Here is apicture of the current state of the file: Still have to talk to the guy who made it for me. He said the file is all mine but I want to be sure. The sole itself has a steel shank for better stability!

So guys - I have given up. I think there is no realistic chance to get these boots made properly and I don't want this pair taken apart for - in my eyes - a minor benefit for all. Unless I can't monitor and counsel the reproduction the result will probably end up in a poor result compared to a conversion of the existing boots. CE II is roudn the corner and I want proper boots as my old ones are falling apart and are uncomfortable to wear (size issues). However I still have the scans and will have a conversation with the guy who made these how to use the 3D files appropriately. I will also reconsider your offer Panda trooper as well as other interest parties. I wish there was a board of the elders here at BSN to better discuss things like these - preserving and making available original assets for all of the scout community. All attempts for such kind of council or interest group I witnessed came to nothing in the end. So I am a bit pessimistic. Problem as always - the right people are not at one place and some things you simply cannot do via internet as properly as being in one work shop. So even if this sounds overly negative - we have the files, they're rough but we might do something with them and for patterns on the shoes themselves we can just abuse another pair of similar boots to take apart. If there is a way to do it - I'm all in to go the route and provide my services. Stay tuned or contact me if you have realistic ideas.

Hi, unfortunately I can't login in ctn anymore even password recovery doesn't work like it should but I received a notification from the customs today that a package from equador arrived so I guess the boots made its way here now. Got no information prior to this notification from Gio though. I let you know if both pairs arrived properly once I fetched the box. Heatshock you might update the list on CTN and maybe help out with the f**** up account of mine over at ctn?

did the same and hope they get it done with gio.

I think John's take was not based on an original cast but rather a self modelled mould maybe using another boot base to get the right proportions for a boot. But of course I'm not sure. However I still have the boots (size 9/10 they fit me) and try to investigate any possibilities.
-
Due to issues with the planned source for replication and no alternate producer so far I have to see what I can do. So far I have a rough 3D scan of the boots and I wished I could have my boots ready for CE II but have to keep the boots unchanged for propper replication :/

hmpf, I payed for two pairs.....

How to: Sew a cummerbund cod piece with no "camel toe"
TB-7076 replied to Pandatrooper's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout HQ
Hmm, much hassle around something I simply achieved with fitting the pattern to my frame. Key is that the bottom stops in front of the crotch ans not underneath. Sorry for the bummer bot not meant offensive. -
Still find these working boots too bulky to serve as scout boots. However....a lot of people use them.

EFX to make a Biker Scout helmet from the original molds
TB-7076 replied to lonewolf's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout HQ
fine helmet - definately. but also quite some $$$ to invest. if I should have the extra funds by then I might get one but I have to completely rework my scout costume so I don't know. also I got a nice one already -
As it was brought up and I still don't get it I want to open up the final discussion on this issue. Do Scouts have neck seals or not? As I'm not following this thesis I'd like the supporters to open up and show their evidence for this claim. Please try to convince me; I'm open to new insights.

My main concern was that people still have problems to recognise MOM and BR manequin references while it is obvious that the main parts must be originals and only few things like the red tab on tank and crazy arrangements at times (snowtrooper) or missing parts are not an evidence that the whole reference can't be trusted. It was brought up as a weakness point in the argument for the stitches. Sorry that I made a complete statement out of it

Cell phone buzzers are the speakers of cell phones - some are capable to produce quite some noise and their diameter of less than 20 mm makes them ideal to fit into the snout areator. I use a Nokia model similar to these: -
Here is what I think. While the argument is valid that exhibit and promotion pieces do have errors in display and may feature altered parts/repairs as well as ill compositions most of what we see are the actual suits we know from the movies. This is at least the case for stormtroopers be it snow-, scout or stormtrooper. A cross check through all pictures available will verify this claim. Fact is not all of the people in this hobby are capable to evaluate and match all references available and are often overwhelmed by resources i.e. transfromation of certain objects in different angles etc. That is why we often have different interpretations of one and the same thing. Exhibit and production photos are often a better source than screenshots. At least for the scout this is very true as most shots are motion shots and with very high contrast and lighting as well as additinal color filters applied to achieve certain moods. This makes it very difficult to mathc colours -> see scout pouches color discussion as well as AT-ST driver helmet color discussion just to name two related issues to one and the same series of sequences within ROTJ. However they're good to cross check with the other resources we got. With some logic things explain themself and all production pcitures as well as prototypes are still better than action or collector figures!! The latter can be used but always with caution - a lot of errors of our hobbies are directly referred to action figures used as reference without checking the original. I know that a decade ago we had not that much references we got today and so Kenner/HASBRO were used as a substitute but we're in 2012 now . So long story short and straight to my point: It is obvious that the major parts of the Scout are the same throughout all references. Of course we have some prototype features inconsistent with the on screen results. As far as I can tell these are limited to: A - prepro tan suede riding patches as B - prepro strapped boot holster C - prepro thigh armor (resembling Jango style -> also seen on concept sketch of the scout) D - prepro detailed utillity belt this is why all these features were tested Btw. most of these observations are not new even though a newer source revealed lately revived the discussion about it. I mean the front test fit shot that was brought up a few weeks ago. They're related to a much older reference form the illustrated series (courtsey to Frank for providing the following scan to me a few years ago). I think most of you already know this one but I post it to complete the reference posted earlier. Now the only strange thing as John and others as well already pointed out remains the red button on the torister panel of the MOM exhibit peace. I think we can regard this as a post movie addon without any deeper meaning or consequence for us costumers. But all the other parts of the costumes we see in productions shots especially the manequin in the bonus material of the blu rays appear to me as actual movie accurate. All other resources show the same features and it is weathered which allows for the conclusion it was at least meant for the set and was part of the latest parts as the used look scout was probably the last shots of the costumes with all clean scouts being modified to appear battle weary. I doubt there were two sets otherwise we had clean scout shots from post-movie sources. So following that logic the BR manequin shows parts of the actual scout costume as it appeared on screen. I don't know why there are doubts? Unfortunately the MOM shots can't support the claim as that area is almost covered and wrinkled in a way you cannot tell for sure. However both sources show the same features except for the lack of details on the detonator on then MOM manequin. But seriously there is a visible continuity throughout al resources and people still defend ground where there is nothing to defend. Just my observation. I still can't understand why people (and in this particular discussion John) are still argumenting for a version with ribbed stormtrooper like neck seals. It is something that would be visible due to the fact that a neckseal produces a thick neck which would deny the sleek look of the scouts. I see no evidence for such item in any screenshots - only one where the turtle neck or balaclava produces some wrinkels that may appear as such.

TB-7076 replied to shdwtrpr13's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
Don't use Fans as I never had heating problems up to 30*C. As mentioned before the helmet design itself allows for optimal cooling conditions. However I already bought a small amp and cell phone buzzers to install into the snout tube. -
My weathered Biker Scout Helmet
TB-7076 replied to lonewolf's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
simply wonderful -
Hi Jerry, one of the boots is currently with a friend who is doing a 3D Scan of the boots. As the original pair of boots will be taken apart vor replication I thought this backup would reduce the risk they her lost either by mail or fail in replicating them. However I'm optimistic ;-). Soon the boots will go on their final journey.

Altmann - MLCv3 - MC - comparissons
TB-7076 replied to Grendel_Blitz's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
The size difference and the deformed parts of the DP I always thought to be a side effect of the material and how it reacted to the process and the target group. Somone here said for children I say youth size. While the deluxe helmet was targeted to collectors the classic DP while still expensive for a "toy" was probably made for early teens. DP classic was made from vinyl. While the mould of DP may already have had changes the quite extreme deformities may be a result from the cooling process and how the material reacted. I'm convinced the DP moulds were taken form the original moulds or maybe a bucket (I think Altmann also said he had an original bucket to make his). Otherwise there wouldnt be a point in copying artifacts like the unique shapes around the slot for the visor bolts for example. Traces you may even discover base helmets used for the mother moulds etc. They serve no real function really so it would be senseless to copy those as not being visible except in opened position. Interviews with people that had contact with the helmets sound interesting but I have realized that most of the people that had the opportunity to work with the originals usually don't remember much or at least rarely something that we already know. They simply didn't know what could happening when they did "a job" out of many. When did DP stop producing the helmts? I think I bought one of the later issues in 1996 and still curse the day I decided to take the economy helmet instead of the expensive one.... 6 months later I could have had the funds for that one as well.... I also think that the slots have been well defined in the mother mould - something EFX officials could reveal to us these days.
