If I may suggest... Iron out that top edge. You want it to be crip, so use an iron at low heat and put a medium thickness towel over top the vinyl. Makes a big difference.

Very cool, nice work! If I may make a small suggestion - the scope should actually be flush with the body of the pistol. The hump in the middle was shaved down so the entire scope sat flush. If you ever do a revision, that might be something to consider and might give you more internal volume to play with. Otherwise, it looks really great!

How To Make Helmet Bolts Fit Properly?
Dart replied to Diadem's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
Many moons of Endor ago, when I built my KS helmet, I just drilled a 1/2 inch hole and popped the bolt in. The corners of the square just dig into the plastic and keep it in place. Easier than drilling a square hole. -
Hi Kurt, Welcome aboard! Take your time, read all of the things, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Many moons ago when I assembled my MC armour, a pair of soft drink caps were included for this exact reason. They fit within the tubing perfectly so you'd glue them to the inside of the end caps and then you still had some meat to glue into the ends of the tubes. Worked a treat!

Great research work so far! Looking forward to seeing how this all pans out.

Yeah... That's the problem with a movie that was filmed 39 years ago, ha!

Having the ear holes that we do and the slot between the visor and dome gives us a bit more ventilation than most buckets. As mentioned above, give it a go without the fans and see how it is. If you really need some, there's space inside the scout bucket for at least 1 fan, a switch, and a battery pack. I have 1 squirrel fan pointing up on the inside of my visor to help with ventilation, but there's plenty of scouts who don't have any fans or have different configurations. Have fun on your first troop!

Happy Retirement! I remember the days when the det started pushing what used to be Lancer requirements to the basic 501st spec. People were losing their minds over some extra strapping and a few bits of suede. We really have come a far way since then, and we're much better for it. Thanks for everything and enjoy your retirement, Marcel!

Not sure about the leather helmets... they used the AN-H-15 helmets for many of those. Maybe it's time to shake that tree again...

Sorry. I'm bored yet somehow productive... https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/avirex-jumpsuits-need-info.89609/#post-2212902 Definitely gives us something more. Good job!

Poking around the interwebz, I'm also finding another flight suit, the L-1, is of similar vintage (WW2, Korea) as the K-1. So, now we just need someone to find or make a K-1 suit, mod it to look like it should and see how it goes. Easy task, right?
-
Actually, the K-1 was issued to WW2 USAAF pilots, but they don't seem to be very common at all. Found a replica on the 'bay, but it's a bit spendy. At least seeing the pattern gives us some ideas.
-
If this is indeed the type, it might be possible to find some old K-1 suits... *sigh* off to my favourite online auction site... Interesting that the zipper is exposed, not covered with a flap. Maybe that was an addition for the film...

What rivet guns or rivers do you all use?
Dart replied to Ctschurman's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
I use one similar to what Mickey linked, but mine does 4 different sizes, which can come in handy. That said, there's different types (aluminum, Stainless Steel)... we're not putting a huge amount of weight on these rivets so aluminum is fine. Plus, if you mess up and need to drill out the rivet, aluminum is softer. -
Which Scout did Dickey Beer Portray?
Dart replied to Chopper's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
It's probable that photo is of Dickey. I know when Lightning Bear was around, he was the other scout riding a bike near the Endor bunker (in the promo pics, one of which must be around here somewhere...). Actually, it seems that the above is a generic Scout photo. I've seen slightly different versions of the above signed by Lightning Bear, so who knows who it is. -
As Mickey pointed out, it's possibly a trimming issue. I'd also point out that we don't know which armour was used by RS to produce this armour. Is it possible that there were differences between the hero and stunt armour? Were hero and stunt armour made differently or at all? We know that there was some variation as to how the tank toppers were painted up and marked. It's possible that the armour was also strapped tighter so that's one explanation for the V to be wider. In the end, the rest of the armour does seem to be correctly proportioned to what we see on screen.
-
Yeah, the armour doesn't need to be as form-fitting as a TK, but you could bring those ends in a bit. I like to add some padding on the inside edges so they don't dig in. Nice kit!

Congratulations Mickey another year as DL
Dart replied to TK8271 Rogue Trooper's topic in Announcements
Congrats to Mickey for a second term. I also want to thank him and the rest of the Detachment staff and armoury team for the great job last year. I feel honoured to be part of such a great group! I'd be remiss to not acknowledge the rest of the fine members of the best detachment in the 501st (biased, I know) for their hard trooping and being good human beings on the forums. We all make the det what it is, so thank you all very much! -
'Grats! And on to the next 100!
-
Further to this point, I also like to think that the belt should be worn in a way that when you sit down, it doesn't want to pop off. So when determining where the belt should be, take your completed belt, sit down and put the belt on. When you stand up, it should be in the right spot (waist).

MC actually makes a nice helmet, I'm sure it'll match up well to the armour. Worst case is that you have to paint but if it's all coming from the same place, chances are good it'll all match.
-
Also, if someone knows what they're doing, it's possible to make a lightweight AND strong fibreglass helmet that doesn't weigh a ton. That all said, I'm looking forward to the day when I can get some new armour, and this is looking really good. Just have to finish that helmet now...
-
Scout armour is pretty forgiving in that department. We don't have the gapping issues that TK's have, so unless you're a wookie, it'll look just fine.
