Congrats on your first troop!

It's completely possible there was a hero blaster built for that scene, it'd be nice to have more information about it. Also, about the "red" bit under the shoulder bell, I'm guessing that's just a warm shadow.

Hi Elliott, Welcome to BSN! The above have given some great advise. Having had a variety of blasters myself, I prefer the rubber/flexible ones to resin. Much easier to troop with and less chance that something's going to break or crack.

Wow... Such sad news. Jim was a great guy and to say that he'll be missed is a massive understatement. My condolences to his family and friends.

Not to throw a wrench in this, but the bottom looks about twice the width of the top strap. So that would mean 1" for the bottom and .5" for the top.

It's still a nice kit, so whatever you bought it for, you should still be able to get most, if not all of it back.

Just drill a 1/2" hole on the visor and push the bolts in place. They'll make their own "corners" and stay put.

I've worn MC armour for the past 7 years, and it's definitely showing its age. It is cracking in all the expected spots, and while it's slightly yellowing, my KS helmet is more yellowed. While I'd love a new kit, I think I'm just going to try to repair this one and repaint it.

My advice: if you weather, go easy. So, maybe add a bit of sand, mixed with some darker weathering as the Scouts are all over the place. But maybe run it by your GML to be sure it's not gonna be a big deal.

For anyone looking for the exact automotive paint, it should be this one - http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/paintdetail.cgi?ppg=90442 It was mentioned in the Star Wars Costuming book that the scouts were painted a gloss Ferrari White. The above colour was the white that Ferrari was using in 1982. The current paint code is PPG 91756, which replaces the one linked above. Same colour, though.

Also, this hobby ain't cheap, so start saving so that you won't have to skimp on your costume. Nothing sucks more when you need a piece but you just don't have the cash.

I think the key is to size it to you. It shouldn't be ridiculously long, but try to keep it in the same proportions as the screenshot above. That's really the best guide you have.

Off the top of my head, I can think of 2 questions: 1. How thick is the vinyl that you're using? 2. How much heat are you using?

You can carefully cut them off. They will still mar the fabric a bit, but if you're careful, you can fix the holes.

You're generally going for a garment-weight leather, so about 1.5-2oz.

Depending on your helmet, you drill a 1/2" hole on the outside, 1/4" hole on the helmet side and just push the bolt into place. Then line up the holes, put the bolts in and screw on and hand tighten the plastic nuts. That's what I did for my KS helmet and it's still together.

Yeah, the painting thing is really one of the vast differences for the Scout. While many other costumes have painted details, the Scout actually used waterslide decals.

Make sure it's high-temperature hot glue. The regular stuff gets soft at a much lower temperature.

I'd say that if you were to go for approval, this is a prime opportunity to do a bit of weathering. Some folks have painted or bleached their armour to get it bright white again, but if it's not horribly yellowed, it's likely ok.

Interesting... how do you run the wire to your headset?

If they're rubber boots, give 'em a hard pass. Once upon a time, they were accepted, but they really just don't look anything like the ones used on screen.

One other thing to mention: when you're pinning in your thigh elastics, make sure they're a bit snug. When worn, they really shouldn't hang but rather act to gather whatever loose material is on the outside of your thigh.
