Ahoy-hoy, Mr. Imagination! Welcome to the good ship BS.N. Read lots, ask questions and have fun. I'll be your contact to the Canadian garrison, so if you have any specific questions, hit me up.
-
I got in on the Efx scout bucket. I ordered with a garrison-mate over 2 years ago. I'm hopeful it'll arrive this year, but I have my reservations. I'd love to troop in it, but I'd rather have an RS. Waiting to see if they ever offer a kit version.
-
Spike's armour seems to be bigger. I'd give him a ring and see what he says.
-
Plus, a kit would be easier for them to produce. No painting, just parts and some decals. I know they paid a lot for the original production-made helmet that it's based off, but hand finishing all of them is obviously not as simple as they thought it'd be. I'd totally buy a kit, no question.

How to people store/transport their armour?
Dart replied to Canterbury Tail's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout HQ
I use one of these: http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/stanley-24-gallon-mobile-job-chest-0581145p.html Fits the scout nicely and it doesn't take up much space. Easy to maneuver and fits in my vehicle with loads of room to spare. -
I wash everything in cold. Never had an issue.

HIPS is: - High Impact PolyStyrene - more brittle than ABS - has a lower melting point so it forms quicker and sharper than ABS - is more prone to cracking or chipping than ABS - a material used for the original ANH TK helmets ABS is: - Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene - much more flexible than HIPS when shaped (and in general) - has a higher melting point and a bit trickier to form and shape - used in car bumpers, so it's durable - more expensive than HIPS

Welcome aboard! To echo the above, SC is a very nice quality kit, arrives in a decent amount of time and doesn't break the bank. The only down-side is the helmet. It's a decent helmet, just a bit soft on the details. Thankfully, there are several options for helmets out there. Anyway, make sure you read as much as you can. Ask whatever questions you can't find the answers to. Have fun!

Congrats! That makes you Lancer #2 in the Canadian Garrison! Guess I should get off my arse and join ya, eh? Hahaha!

'Grats! Good to see more folks getting involved!

Another good thing is to make sure that when you're doing your boots, you don't stretch the vinyl too tightly over the toe as that can make putting on the boot more difficult. For my boots, I've actually cut away some of the upper heel to make it easier to slide my foot in and out. I think the next boots I make I'll likely cut even more away as it's just not needed.
-
To echo what John said, you don't really need to do that. There are some that want to make them functional, in which case, you're better off sewing the buckles in with white thread instead of using rivets. In my personal opinion, it's more trouble than it's worth.

Yup. Costuming isn't a cheap hobby. Thankfully, you can space the cost out with a scout. You're still gonna have some big costs (armour and helmet) but the rest can be broken down and either done locally or purchased in bits.

The Aren't You A Little Sort For A...Biker Scout (WIP)
Dart replied to StoutScout's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Soft Parts
Great work so far, Nick! If I may make one suggestion: to prevent the legs from bunching at the top of the boots, it's a good idea to sew some stirrups to the bottom openings of the legs. That way, things stay nice and tucked in. I find just a 1" elastic is enough to keep things in place. -
Agreed. You definitely need to fix those boots. Since someone else made them for you, you can either ask them to fix them or if you can find the same vinyl, you can carefully remove the top and redo it. Also, trim that holster. It's very large. Look at the gallery to see what it should look like.

Indeed there is. Gotta have a minimum 5 post count to access it. You should be good now.

Constructive Criticism to help with details on sole cuts
Dart replied to Swift234's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Soft Parts
The cuts look good. Very scouty. Nice work! One thing I'll mention, the cuts on the original boots were not really deep. We're talking 1/16" deep. I can appreciate your effort, because I've done the same thing years ago, but for everyone still getting to this point, go easy on yourselves. -
Putting on my GML hat here... - Is the velcro on your boots on the inside? They really should up the back of the boot. Also, you can probably trim down your holster a bit if that's an issue. - You might consider switching the greeblies on the thermal detonator. If I'm not mistaken, the SC thermal det has more space on one side of the zip tie than on the other. - You could actually get away with smaller pouches. The ones you have look really big.

Welcome aboard the mighty ship BS.N! As usual, make sure ya read through all the sections and absorb as much as you can. If you have any questions, post up and ask! If you have any local/Canadian Garrison questions, hit me up.

I have no issues wearing my glasses under my KS helmet.
-
Sooo... what size zip tie are we talking about here? I hope they're not the tiny ones, but perhaps the standard size?
-
You'll want to leave at least a 1/4" return edge on those pieces. You should still have a bit of meat where the notch is for the strapping.

I think that's just the air conditioning slider knob thingy. I've got mine set in the middle since I don't like it too cold. Yup, as long as it's there, somewhere in the slot, you're good.
-
I can understand the desire to fix this sorta thing. I went all ADD when I got my pre-assembled KS bucket. Paid to have them assemble it and I took it all apart. I got it together a bit better, but for the most part, if something's a little bit warped, no one's gonna know. That said, I'm your GML and now I know, so I'll hold it against you. Kidding! I'd never do that. Have fun with your build and if you have any local questions, lemme know.

No problemo, TJ! One note: when you're gluing the back reinforcement, don't use CA/Crazy glue. That stuff dries too rigid and will just crack. Use Goop/E6000 to keep the bond flexible.
