TB-91005 Requesting Lancer Deployment (APPROVED)
Strider replied to Retrofire's topic in Lancer Deployment Request
Hey Peter, looking good! Just one more thing which I've overlooked earlier: The pouches need to be a bit further apart. They should start about one inch from the last rib on the cummerbund (respectively). Almost there, buddy! Cheers -
So I've seen the question on how to install the Liner coming up from time to time and I thought I quickly show the process: 1. First step is to cut off the excess plastic where I've drawn the line: 2. Drill a hole with the size of your rivets on both sides (I use 3,2mm rivets) 3. Test fit and drill a hole on one side of the helmet. Make sure the Liner is pressed a bit against the inside of the dome so it sits a bit tight. 4. Fix the rivet on one side using a washer. Test fit again and find the corresponding spot on the other side. It's round about vice versa but may differ by a few millimeters. 5. And et voilá you're done

Tinting clear lenses is actually easier as one may think. IDye Poly works like a charm. Also it's a gradual process in which you have good control over the degree of tinting you want to achieve. The tricky part is vac forming clear lenses but dying is the easy part ;-)

Looking good there, Dan - especially for your first build. Well done! Also some excellent advise from 762s. For the lenses gray or brown is SA. Cheers

Hi Peter, here we go. Looks like you know your costume well as you didn't leave us many things to point out ;-) There's just one thing for me to mention: - The cod piece should be a bit wider beneath the belt. Cheers -
Haha, sorry didn't realize it was about the Kashyyyk ;-)

Looking good there, buddy! Great to see your application We're already reviewing and get back to you shortly! -
Ah no, just on the visor side - wasn't sure if you cut out a square or just drilled a hole. Never mind
-
Love the dedication and work you've put into it! Just as little word to the wise:In the section where the bolts go in you would cut out a square in the size of the inner bolt square so that it's in a fixed position automatically.

Thanks, man! We're currently in the process of finetuning all molds and will be offering the armor on a frequent base in a couple of months from now. And it's not the royal "we" I'm using, I did indeed hook up with a fellow prop maker from the UK - So stay tuned, guys

Rant about the RS Props biker scout helmet

It looks like a pre-production helmet they all had that wierd looking snout. Obviously they changed that later... ;-) -
Really good job!

TB-74259 Requesting Lancer Status (APPROVED)
Strider replied to RickyBoyBlue's topic in Lancer Deployment Request
Ricky, it has been a pleasure reviewing your application. As I said in the beginning, your documentation of the process and the detailed pictures made our job a heck lot easier and enjoyable. That said, I am happy to congratulate you on achieving Lancer status! Jim will make sure you'll get your badge and make the official announcement. Please send your action picture to Cheyenne (Forest Ranger) and we'll get you added to the wall. Now get on your speeder bike and report for duty! Cheers -
Rant about the RS Props biker scout helmet
Strider replied to Strider's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
No prob. I just rewatched your review video and saw the issue with the crack. I can confirm on my assembled helmet that they definitiely cut the upper slit for the chin cup strap way too close to the edge. So no wonder it cracked real easily. All in all I have to conclude that the pre-assembled helmets are rather only for display than for trooping. On the up side, all these issues can be addressed if you bought the kit and assemble your own helmet! Hey Dan, thanks a lot for posting the pics - haven't seen them before! Also (besides the crack) this is a perfectly pulled helmet where we can see what the tears and the return edge of the facemask are actually supposed to look like! -
Looking good! Trimming and cutting all pieces before assembly would have been easier though ;-)

Rant about the RS Props biker scout helmet
Strider replied to Strider's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
I just updated the first post with a video on the original helmet RS acquired. It's interesting because it explains some of the "mistakes" they made like the narrow slits on the chin cup. It looks like this production used helmet was different from the screen used ones in some respects. -

Hey Lou, absolutely agree on your points. The technique with the modeling iron won't work in this case though unless you're fixing the chin section as well and add bondo to get straight return edges afterwards. You'll see it when you have your kit. Cheers -

You can get rid of them with a combination of sanding and model filler /putty but it should hardly show anyway once you primed and spraypainted it. That's not to say one should not expect a flawless cast particularly at this price! -

I guess you're referring to the lenses section? This will be cut out anyway so no worries. -

Strider replied to Strider's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
Thanks, man! Yeah, like the way it came I couldn't troop in it for 5 min. I don't think the liner is really the problem but rather the chin cup which is really pushing up your head into the helmet and making it really uncomfortable to wear. So you should def get a longer strap for the chin cup. The second thing for me was that the lenses were pushing down on my nose but I fixed that by dremmeling out that section. -

I just tried to fix mine but you with the assembled helmets you can only fix it to a certain degree. With the kit you can prevent this by lining up the facemask to the dome properly. The joining strip is okay - there were some original helmets that also had a bigger connection strap. For the chin cup strap with the originals the just glued the ends together (to itself) but not to the helmet. But for me this is not a biggie. And yes, the screen used visors had a more evenly cut. Thanks, dude. Nah, when I troop in my bikerscout costume I do way more nonsense than deadpool ever could, lol. -

Thanks for your comments, guys! To make the differences easier to see I've pulled together some references below. Btw, I'm not trying to put down the RS Props helmet. IMO it's the best that is currently out there. But that is not to say it can't be made better ;-) -

I get my lenses from a local shop here, they're grey O'Neal B2 anti fog replacement lenses. Not sure about their availability in the US. No, I actually looked through the lenses of my assembled helmet ;-) They're pretty dark. -
Just me rambling about the RS Props biker scout helmet (kit and assembled version). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdCxdsu9nRE&feature=youtu.be If you're curious what the original production made (not screen-used) helmet looked like which RS acquired, here's the video from Prop Store: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARK_ZGCsMYw
