Just troop hard!!! My costume is a year old and under a year approved. I troop hard and often. My armor and boots are scuffed, scratched and filthy!!! Cummerbund starting to yellow some as well. Natural weathering is the way I say to go. I think real dirt and grime looks real!!!

My gloves are wampa and man I love em!!! Medium fit like a glove. Sorry had to do it!!!

Curious about membership numbers, member map, gatherings, etc.
Bubonos replied to CFLStarWarsDad's topic in Getting Started
I'm assuming you were wanting members to comment where they are from and how many scouts I'm that state. You cam get a rough number at 501stlegion.com in the members section. I'm from BatonRouge Louisiana and the last census a member took said we had six scouts. I think we have had two more approved since then and one or two more starting builds. We do have members building scouts after seeing me and the other few active scouts suit up and troop. I say active because the rest do one or more troops a year to stay active on the roster but I'm really the only scout in my state that tries to make most troops in the state and every troop in my area. Our lancer is the next most active and our original scout to the garrison makes a few troops a year. I hope this new blood we are getting makes for two to four scouts at most events. I love trooping with another scout! The tks all team up and do their thing and act goofy while we point at them and look all menacing and tough. Older fans at events enjoy all the tk trash talk we scouts do. "At least we can shoot" and whatnot. -
I have to back Chex here. We have an older scout who was the first in our garrison and an original member to the garrison. He rocks the old white rubber boots with a bone glued on and his costume looks poor in comparison to on screen much less next to me or another average scout. Put a lancer next to him and well... Great guy but he sticks by being grandfathered in. I had the same way of thinking when I got approved and shortly after the crl was updated. But after trooping with scouts in amazing costumes I too constantly add and repair my costume. Not really going for lancer but if I eventually meet all specs I'll apply for the status. I like when hardcore fans tell me I look like I just walked off set. It lets me know my hard work paid off. Again in sorry that you got screwed around but I assure you of you pick your head up and take a motivated approach, the repairs will be fun. And you maybe like some of my garrison mates who have a hard time on no patience for the build but crave the cosplay. That's cool too and I'm sure some of your fellow members will be more than happy to help you out. We all worldwide seem to enjoy helping.

Got my sc on day 27 from placing my order. I was getting nervous then because the rest of the costume was pretty much built

Cant you all just get a refund and buy from another dealer?

Chin cup not required but I found at least a strap helps when you keep your visor up. Comic con was the first event I could keep it up alot and the bucket would fall forward over my eyes. Added a strap and it sits straight until a kid grabs it or an idiot teen slaps my bucket.

All resources you listed were the ones I used. Soft parts I have a garrison friend but you can find those for sale on this forum. Boots were fun to make and for answers on sagging look at a recent post I made and the pros answered my issue. Blaster, here as well. I don't have one but you van find it here. Chin strap helps when you lift your visor. Glue ez6000. Sc you'll have to cut the lens hole out so good knife and jack saw is what I used. For rivets you need a gun. There are some tricks but it maybe in poor taste to mention those. Lets just say some of my garrison experts taught me some shortcuts. For me I Velcro everything!!! Heavy duty Velcro stitched on suit for all pads and stick on inside arm and knee pads. I'm slender and my weight goes up and down so I sometimes have cummerbund slippage, I fixes that with Velcro. Boot slipping, Velcro. That stuff rules!!!!! Alot of people paint the armor, I didn't and find its easier to beat up that way. I like a natural weathering. Tks are shiny, scouts get down and dirty. I found the boots at WalMart and as I said had a blast making them. And as mentioned by Nexous, the sc padding is fine for me. I'll post you a pic of how i placed it and it feels and fits great.

The build was fun for me personally and I'm not sure sc does built kits but the armor is great. When wanting to become a scout I did lots of research and studied this forum as well as other scouts in my garrison. For me half the fun in costuming is making the costume. I'm sorry that happened but hopefully you'll enjoy fixing what needs fixing.

I say everytime I see a dirty armor post, I go with real dirt and grim

Smiling fix said it! We have am old scout in my garrison and his costume isn't that great. For the first scout I saw, the grey under suit and rubber boots looked ok until I saw a lancer. Then i built my scout to previous specs and last troop I did with him I was asking if he planned to upgrade and like you said fox, the look he gave was sad! I felt like a jerk!!! He said he was the first scout in Louisiana and is proud of his costume. I couldn't argue. The things that are grandfathered in on my costume I plan to fix but not right away.

I like the natural weathering personally, but I'm also not very good with paint.

Looks great! I'm going with natural weathering. I troop hard! I'll get in the dirt with kids, get knocked around by crowds and everything I can to get the armor beat up and dirty.

You may wanna double check just in case and save yourself time and aggravation. But build is looking great! Its these wips that give you the advice you may need. Love seeing new builds, keep the pics coming!

That was something I had to go back and add for approval myself. Luckily I was in constant contact with my gml and he walked me through my build so I wouldn't have to do touch ups after submitting my pics.
-
Sounds like you are on your way. Glad to meet you and post pics of your build. We love pics!!! I have to agree, wampa gloves are amazing! I myself have been kicking around building a TX but I like the classic biker scout too much. I think they are the same build personally but you may also find help in the special ops

I will say that brightened my day.

Tell you what I did and ill also say its a royal pain but when I had the pads in place I marked a spot on the sleeves and knees of the suit. I sewed on Velcro and added industrial stick on Velcro to the pads. Now my sewing I improving but the Velcro came off a few times and I used stick on on my suit for a troop or two but after good stitching, my pads never slip! I got Velcro crazy with my build.

Looking good brother. May need to slide those arm pads up some
-
I got my sc bucket a little closer but not by too much. This had me worried too but my gml looked at pics as i built my armor and said the same.
-
Looking good. After trooping since may, I finally added a chin strap more for when I flip my face mask up. The weight distribution is off and the bucket slides down over my face which defeats trying to see or breathe. Cons and parades I flip it up alot. Smaller troops I usually only flip it to show a scared kid I'm not really all that scary

I'll say the scout I met grandfathered in was a very poor example of an inspiring scout and my co was sure to point that out to me.

As far as weathering, like a costume guru taught me, I do it naturally. I have a habit of going rogue during troops. Instead of standing there like a wax sculpture posing endlessly for pics, im off playing with kids and parents. I get dirty and beat up during a good troop and the costume takes its licks. I make my repairs and troop on and i have to say, its looking like more and more like i met an ewok after every troop. Bucket and pads naturally scuffed up, cummerbund and boots naturally dirty. Members of my command staff was telling me at comic con earlier this month that I looked like I had been to Endor
