My small beer gut comes and goes ( it is back now from being away in training for work and being a slug for 2 weeks) buy it kinda stays up but sometimes pulls out from under the armor and then I have to pull it up like a dress. I am gonna put snaps in it tomorrow if my daughter stays home long enough to help me lol

Right now I have my pouches Velcrod to my chest plate and that seems to hold well. I need to find stronger Velcro for my belt or I may try and hide snaps in there as well as that started to work its way down after walking for 5 hours. I find myself always checking to make sure stuff is positioned correct so I don't look sloppy and want to try and make as much stuff as tight/stable as I can.

Thank you for the pictures! I am going to try the snaps first .. I want to wear it this weekend to MonsterMania in NJ and based on last time in my Resident Evil costume I don't think I will wear the vest. I have tons of snaps left so it can't hurt. Snapping them to the armor is even better than the suit/vest. Did you just use E6000 to glue snap plates ? A strap type system also sounds effective too. If I could just add a strap to close the vest on my own I would be set!

Hmm didn't even think about sewing it lol. My vest is so tight that there is zero chance of it budging if I do that ! Thanks!

Mine sags over time. I bought suspenders and they work but if for some reason I don't have my vest on ( like it is 95 degrees) they show. I don't know that Velcro would provide the best support - has anyone used snaps either to the vest or flightsuit? Does it put too much pressure in each individual snap location?

Aside from rounding some edges/corners ( all done with sandpaper by hand ) my SC armor is nice. I followed Pandas build and did have to curve some corners with lexan scissors. The helmet needed the eye area drilled/cut out but it can be done with a drill/dremel/file/sandpaper. Overall had a good time building it.

Read thru some of the boot builds .. A couple people have used them ( I actually went and looked at them) and had issues with there being too many raised parts on the sides. The toe vinyl pieces will be pulled really tight and can show the raised areas
-
There are people here who have painted theirs and had good results even over time. Those soles like similar to the material of the Timberlands I used and were a bit of a challenge to cut evenly
-
I wore mine on a 85 degree day with high humidity and didn't have it fog up at all - no fans. I don't have the lense secured tightly all around. My googles for my Resident Evil costume fog up instantly and I tried the anti fog diving stuff and it didn't work ( got it from a dive shop as well)
-
I bought one as a spare and it was tight as well- I didn't get the " long" version they offer which I guess I should have
-
Shipping time aside ( and the fact mine didn't fit) - it is put together well and made from nice materials
-
Wonder if you could order an SC visor and see if it would fit? It is ashame they sent out a product with all those gaps between the faceplate. Almost looks like it would need to be cut/shortened at the 12 o'clock position ( like remove a small section and glue it back together).

Has anyone made a flight suit from scratch?
01Hawk replied to kiel814's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout HQ
I wanted to find someone local to make one for me as well. I like the fabric used on the one I had made but it just doesn't fit correctly. The RedKap I bought was/is much heavier as well as doesn't fit well as I should have bought a " long". I did see this pattern in a store as available .. Here is an amazon link but I did see it in person. http://www.amazon.com/Kwik-Sew-Mens-Coveralls-Pattern/dp/B002LN2RUU -
Help! Bubble wrap marks on Helmet
01Hawk replied to AxelVBG's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
I have never used that brand before ( I use all 3M stuff to detail) but it looks like a cleaner wax that will work -
Does everyone put the rivet in the side? I am about to glue mine up- I think the rivets would dig into the side of my feet

Help! Bubble wrap marks on Helmet
01Hawk replied to AxelVBG's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
If you're concerned about the compound being too harsh you could start with a cleaner wax which is basically wax and polish mixed together ... Really no chance of hurting any painted surface with it but will remove small marks -
And as far as the spacing/gaps go I just shimmed it. Overall it looks good from the front and sides. From the top not perfect but not many people will see it from that angle
-
I had a friend at a car body shop paint it. We used what is called fine line tape ( kinda like a pinstripe ) and that allowed for an accurate curve. It isn't perfect but looks pretty good. The color was just flat black paint used on trim.

Does it have to have a zipper? I have a Suit ordered from here which was a mess fitment wise. I had 4 inches added to it to make it kinda fit. It is too tight around my neck. I can get the zipper up and can just fix the collar strap but I think it will still be too tight. I was going to try and add some material and use Velcro half way up instead of the zipper ( kinda of like I have to add material and move the Velcro to the vest). I have a RedKap but honestly the material on this suit is much lighter and I like that. Aside from trying to find some one to build one for me from scratch or me learning how to sew better I am out of options I think.

The SC kit is great ... The helmet is small if you have a physically small head. If you need detailed measurements on the helmet I can post mine if you like.

Do the other character costumes have the same limited number of US suppliers for parts? In looking at some Boba Fett stuff it looks like there is a fair amount of parts that can be purchased within the country. Is there just not that large of a demand for Scout stuff to warrant someone making soft parts for order here? Since none of my stuff really fits, I am going to practice making it once my sewing skills improve but for now it does seem like there are quite a few people who want soft parts and stuff here. I think the armor supply is ok, would be nice to have some more helmet options ( although MLC/MC would do just fine )

Whats the best way to make holes in plastic armor
01Hawk replied to uscstaylor's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
I used a dremel but you need to be careful cause it can get away from you. The drilling holes/file method works and yields nice and smooth results. -
Mine looked exactly like that as well. I have been playing with shimming various parts of it to make the lines a bit better

I think before starting out you should consider how much, if any , you want to do yourself, how perfect you want your suit to be and what your budget will be ... Those 3 variables will play a pretty big part in the process. If you can sew or have access to someone who does, you can save a lot of $ because there are excellent tutorials for almost any part of the costume on this site. I have an SC helmet and armor, CB suit cumberbund and vest - both made of very high quality materials, am working on doing my own boots, gloves off eBay from a vendor I don't see selling them right now and baclava is an eBay piece I have for my resident evil costume but there are a ton of options for them. I would prefer to have a CB or MLC helmet though. Nothing wrong with the SC .. Just would like a bigger one
