  1. Yea, I made an new post to see if it can get cleared up. Not the biggest issue in the world - worst case I will just use silver and if someone complains take a minute and throw some white on them. I also asked on my 501st build page as well since that is the person who will actually be certifying me I guess
  2. Level 2 501st http://www.501st.com/databank/Costuming:TB_Scout_trooper So I guess you can't be a level 2 501st lancer?
  3. Which color silver or white? I am being told both and want to use white rivets if that is the case. There is conflicting info in a couple posts and links. I am pretty sure silver is the color though.
  4. Honestly if I paid someone to put the KS one together ( which it sounds like they did), I would be really pissed off. What is the fee for that $200? There are flaws in every aspect of it and they are the experts in their product. Would it even come close to passing 501st level one? And the buyer shouldn't have to put time into if they already paid the people who make the product to put it together correctly. Stinks for the original poster and thank you for posting it so others that are new to the hobby have some more information for when they are trying to decide on what to get.
  5. In regards to the knee rivets white or silver, I knew I wasn't crazy
  6. I would have swore it said silver rivet for the knees. But it does say white now so I am glad I didn't rivet the knees yet since I have white rivets too
  7. Working on the belt. It is resting on the top of my real belt ( like above it ). Should I trim the last section where it will rivet to? It kinda wraps around my back. If so ( which according to screen shots I should) what would be a good length to leave it after the last box? The thigh boxes are not adjusted yet. Just wanted to get a feel for where i was putting the cloth part of the belt before I sewed on the snap plates
  8. The tracking # takes a long time to work for some reason. Once it does work you will have it in a couple days.
  9. They are the Makita Clips. I still have to get my belt together to try them. I will get them to work regardless but obviously aren't the " correct " ones. The SC ones will break I think and I'm not really shooting for Lancer at this point. I got them from eBay for like $6

  11. Before I started doing all my stuff I was worried about which sewing machine would work on the vinyl and Velcro. I had never sewed anything in my life. Having asked here I got a bunch of different responses on what would work and what wouldn't. I was going to buy a fancy one and just get it over with. Instead a friend came over with hers just to see how it would go and to teach me how to actually use a sewing machine. The machine is a Singer Esteem II. It shows on Targets site as about $110. I easily sewed the Velcro, straps and vinyl. My lines aren't 100% perfect but I think they will be fine. I jumped right into it - in hindsight I would like to have just practiced on some scraps first. The one thing the machine didn't like was sticky back Velcro. It gummed up the needle. After trips to Walmart, Michaels, AC Moore and Joann fabrics I was able to find all sew in Velcros. Some came with the SC kit.
  12. Doing some work on the whole suit. Made 2 back belt pieces cause I'm not sure which I want to use. One has regular 2 inch Velcro and the other has 1.5 " strapping ( like double sided Velcro)
  13. Working on the whole suit today
  14. Pretty much just need to get the sewing done and the boots. These little clamps work well for the belt
  15. There are some links to pics of vintage Avirex suits ( and some on eBay). Most look to have a lot of zippers. There is a site that sells suits made under that name now but they don't look correct. Even checked etsy lol
  16. Pretty happy with the progress so far today
  17. Doing some work today. Want to try and get this done soon. Pretty much gonna work on it all weekend.
  18. I don't know why I didn't think it this earlier but here is my next attempt. I am going to go buy a cheap pair of boots at good will to practice on first to make sure it works. Blew up a picture from SC site on my screen. Held the actual boot up till it was sized correctly. Then took Vellum tracing paper and taped it to the screen. I lightly traced the pattern from the screen onto the paper. I am going to transfer the pattern to the boot base. May need to shift it a bit to accommodate the different sized/contour of the sole but I think it should make it look better than just random notches. The perspective of the pic with the actual boot in it looks off but when you stick it up flat to the screen it is a match
  19. It is tough to get a feel for what the distances/widths are supposed to be. Those cuts are on the inner face of the one boot and like you said they should be thinner and gapped better. I think I am going to try and blow up the picture and make a stencil of the spacings, even if it is just holding the boot up to the computer screen for sizing. I was thinking about it last night - does anyone with original boots have the ability to provide a stencil of at least the outer side? If not just measurements of what each raised area should be?
  20. Starting to make cuts ... Are these going to be ok? Was trying to make them a consistent width of the xacto knife to make cleaner cuts.
  21. I think it is opened up enough but may want to run some sand paper around it to smooth out the lines. Put the visor in or a piece of black paper to get a feel for where it looks rough etc. The black paint will come halfway up the opening.

    Rivets

Here is the stuff I got from Ace today. If looking online the washers will be called back up plates
  23. I drilled a ton of little holes around the line and then used a dremel. Finished it off by hand sanding it/using a file.
  24. After trying to find something solid colored and reasonably priced and that I could try on in a store , I just gave up. So instead I bought expensive boots and will just use them and be comfortable lol.
  25. They look great!
