  1. I own that exact shield. It's a darker grey -- about the same as sunglasses. Maybe that's darker than you're looking for though.
  2. Hey buddy, you definitely aren't alone on this one. There's some additional contact info in this thread if you want to give it a try: http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=18108&st=20 I hope you're able to get things resolved
  3. Oh, I was following that post over on the RPF. I was really interested in seeing more of that character in R:One, but it was not to be. I hope you'll take the time to cross post some of your progress over here as well!
  4. Are those boot marks purple? I wonder if it could be Sharpie bleed through?
  5. Based on one of the patterns you have in your first post, are you making your own balaclava? If so, cool!
  6. Here's my rig. Not much different from everyone else's, except my cod sits outside the vest. My kit does have about 100 lbs of velcro on it -- the armpit level stuff is for the bund and the piece on the front of the cod itself is to hold up the belt. None of it is visible when everything is worn together. Hope we've been helpful.
  7. Yeah, I have a velcro tab on the end of my elastic strap that attaches to a piece on the back of the vest.
  8. Here's some photos of the bar code over on starwarshelmets: http://www.starwarshelmets.com/star_wars_helmets_review_original_jedi_biker_scout_trooper_helmet.htm Looks like it does follow the contour. By the way, should you end up needed another barcode sticker, I think I have some lying around if it comes to that.
  9. I can post pictures when I get back to the house, but mine is set up slightly differently -- I have my velcro strips on the outside of the flak vest and my cod just sticks on the front. This also helps to mask any gap that pops up between your bund and belt when you're moving around.
  10. If you end up using the Palladium's I'd be real curious to see how the vinyl layup turns out. Would it be best to use E6000 or Shoe Goo to affix the canvas to the vinyl? Or something else entirely?
  11. Hey buddy, wecome to BSN. In addition to what 762s mentioned, some other items -- You should replace the snout on the KS helmet. It's too large and inaccurate. Don Jarr Designs makes a very nice replacement snout greeblie. (Google it) Your knees are on upside down Belt needs to come up in front. The rear placement looks fine, so it's probably a droop issue. The front should be positioned around your navel. It might be the light, but your TD tube looks super dark. Hard to tell though. Center the buckles on your drop straps. Cod is def too wide. Also def needs stiffeners added. I used 1/4" volara foam. Bund is too long. It should be just long enough that it rests on the top of your belt. Here's some guidance on bund and cod sizing: This image gets posted a lot, but it's a good guide for the proportions on your gear: You're well on your way. Keep us updated!
  12. So, I put my SC armor together long before my Altmann helmet arrived. I ended up using the Altmann helmet and SC armor for my 501st Pathfinder submittal and was approved with no issues. Some problems came up when I started weathering my armor. I tried to use Gino's scout as a paint guide and used the misting technique from Strider's Lancer build thread. Here's the problem that I encountered -- the SC abs plastic is slightly pinkish and the black misting seems to have made my armor take on a purplish hue. In contrast, the misting on my Altmann helmet seems to have made it look more yellowish. So, what to do here? LIve with it? Strip my armor and helmet and paint them both white? Wait until I finish my RS props helmet and paint that and the armor? Have others had similar issues? How did you all deal with it? It's almost impossible to capture the purple vs yellow tint in a photo, but I tried.
  13. Has anyone tried fixing the return edge on the bottom of the face plate with a heat gun? Too risky?
  14. I'm 5ft8 152 lbs. The SC armor fits me pretty well.
  15. This is really helpful. Thanks so much, Strider.
  16. Yeah I'm interested in the explanation myself given that the US Army has...
  17. The SC helmet tends to run on the small and narrow size. His armor is pretty popular (I have a set myself) and he has top notch service. Moncal makes a nice set of armor, but wait times can be exceptionally long (like, years). Check this thread: http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=13625&st=0&p=120417&hl=moncal&fromsearch=1entry120417 Have you had a look at the Ultimate Armor Comparison thread? http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=17774&hl=%2Bultimate+%2Barmor+%2Bcomparison&fromsearch=1
  18. Chef used to have a guide up on his website, but it looks like the photos all gone with the photobucket apocalypse. Yargh! This video is for a WTF kids biker scout helmet, but the build process for the 5-piece helmet should be the same.
  19. That really sucks man. I'm so sorry.
  20. Have you checked the boot tutorial? There are some basic patterns there: http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=903 I drafted a pattern off of that thread onto a brown paper bag and tweaked it from there.
  21. Thanks buddy! Will do.
  22. Decided to break out the rattle can and steel wool today and did some weathering on the armor and helmet. Thoughts? Feedback? Thanks! (Not great lighting, but you get the idea)
  23. Strider, since the slot is now a 1/2" longer, did you add any sort of reinforcement to keep it from flexing and potentially snapping?
  24. Challenge accepted! We should set up some sort of RS build support group.
