That's really odd. I'll let someone else weigh in. I don't want to make unneeded extra work. Does anyone else have the figure and can verify this?
-
Is it a divot? Can you catch it with your fingernail? It looks too uniform to be just weathering.
-
My thought would be to just cut it out with a dremel. Depending on how thick the armor is you could either put a couple of layers of ABS with oval cutouts and then a third layer that's just flat Glue it all on the backside and presto you have a recessed area. Once it's painted I don't think you'd see the layers. If it's 3D printed just cut it out and put a flat piece of ABS behind it. Just make sure you fill the rough inside edges since it's probably infill layers and will need be filled smooth.

Chest: @heartstopper85 is missing the recessed rectangle on the bottom right of the chest. That's my main concern
-
My additions and changes. Nitpicking time. Helmet: Back of helmet has one large raised rectangle in center (with square details in upper left corner) and two smaller raised rectangles on each side of the large center rectangle. Chest: @heartstopper85 is missing the recessed rectangle on the bottom right of the chest. Has recessed trapezoid in upper center near neck. Abdomen: Inside the right-hand black area is a stepped pyramid detail. (Clarification?) Shoulder Armor: Raised horizontal rectangle on lower section of both shoulders Biceps: Biceps have angular cutout area on inner side (near armpit) Forearms: Outer side near elbow has a recessed "U" shaped notch as well a s slight hump near wrist. ***Need better picture with outside of forearms Thermal Detonator: The horizontal thermal detonator is a circular canister with evenly spaced horizontal grooves extending to the end caps. The end caps have a recess on the top (flat circular surface) Tassets & Pouches: ***Can we have an approximate size so we don't end up with pizza boxes. Shin Armor: Knee is roughly trapezoid shaped with curving edges on the lower sides. Knee has a large recessed flat "V" shape on the top section a smaller recessed and inverted flat "V" shape on the lower section. Shin has 3 vertical grooves running the full length with a recessed rectangle at the upper edge of each groove near the knee. Shin has 3 sets of rectangular strap loops on each side for the upper 3 straps. Straps do not feed through the loops but are instead mounted behind. The lowest shin strap has a cut in rectangle on each side where a strap loop seems to me missing. Gaiters: Gaiter may not be too baggy

I'm really happy to see this coming to a close because it looks great and you've done an awesome job with the little amount of info we have to work with.

Hemmed my pants and added stirrups to keep everything in place. I also replaced the stock boot back strap and snap with a more accurate version. Two layers of black marine vinyl with a new black snap. Then everything had to be hand sewn on. Hand sewing multiple layers of leather and vinyl is always a delightful task.

TB - Scout Trooper - The Mandalorian is now LIVE!
MrPoopie replied to BikerScout007's topic in Announcements
We are pretty awesome aren't we. -
I've read several reviews and they noted specifically that the Mountain Trooper is not mentioned anywhere in the book. Hopefully some other information will come with new merch though. Can anyone confirm this about the book?

3D Printed helmet that can pass approval?
MrPoopie replied to The-Strike's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
I haven't taken a look at his armor file syet but without trying to promote myself I can send you a link for the files I created. They used to be listed free on Thingiverse but had to be removed due to theft issues. Just PM me and I'll send you a link and you can decide for yourself. -
3D Printed helmet that can pass approval?
MrPoopie replied to The-Strike's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
It's not a problem not wanting to post the vendor's info. We do our best not to mock anyone for their work and understand that 501st requirements are very in depth and not for everyone especially those who just want a display piece. Let us know if we can help out with anything else during your build. -
3D Printed helmet that can pass approval?
MrPoopie replied to The-Strike's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
Yes 3D printed helmets can pass CRL and even Lancer specs if finished properly. There is really only 1 helmet file that I'm aware of that this is really possible with. Jesus Salmeron make a helmet model that is quite accurate. he has even made revisions from his original design so that it's easier to pass CRL requirements. That being said, you still need to make sure the finish work is done properly. Make sure that you use the "Version 2" helmet as it has the ear holes cut out. If you can post some pictures of the helmet file that you are wondering about we might able able to make a more informed decision. https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-print-models/hobby-diy/other/wearable-scout-trooper-helmet-by-jesus-salmeron-3d-print-model -
Looks good. You'll need to move the control box to the vertical harness strap.

BikerScout007's Patrol Trooper Build!

Lookin' smooth -
Holster snaps installed. They're a little bit tighter than I wanted. I forgot to account for the height of the snap but it's leather so it'll stretch. Just need to paint the snaps white and That part will be done.

Finished Baton version 2. This one is more accurate.
-
I thought about magnets originally too but then ran into some roadblocks trying to figure out placement on the center ring of the Baton. Ultimately I went with a 3D printed Baton and plastidipped the ribbed sections. This gives a nice amount of grip and looks and feels like rubber. Since the 3D parts are relatively light the friction from the Plastidip and leather straps seems to be more than enough to hold everything in place, at least through testing. The holster is in the process of being painted right now. Once it's dry I'll install the straps and we'll know if the test was correct.
-
Which photos do you have? I have a few from the Sideshow figure and the official promo shot of the guy on the bike. If you're looking straight at the holster the right side overlaps the left side. Is this what you meant. That's my goal, is to add a white snap on each strap and let friction do the work of holding the Baton in place, it seemed to work really well in my test with the painters tape. I'll need to make it tight enough that even if it loosens over time it will still work. The large backing plate on the holster will be hidden behind the belt and secured with Chicago screws. I'm working on getting the belt parts painted and finished over the next couple of days.

Project: "Get back in the saddle" My Scout Trooper WIP
MrPoopie replied to Nathanzx10r's topic in Getting Started
Welcome back. I have an Altmann helmet as well but some pretty bruised and battered SC armor. Let us know if you have any questions and be sure to check the CRL as it's been updated a few times since you were last building. While you're at it make sure to check out the Lancer requirements as I'm sure that's the route you're taking. -
If you really like the next seal and want to follow a CRL you can make a Jedi Fallen Order Scout. 😁

Baton Holster. I wanted it to be more functional than just a rigid plastic piece. Using leather straps and buttons I should get the look right as well as being more realistic. The double straps will be glued together and the blue tape replaced with a white button snap. Luckily I had my old Baton still hanging around to test with.
-
More work on belt parts. I made the correct pouches now (Thanks @Hask) and printed up all my front belt parts. The printers have been running full steam lately to get these parts produced. Now I just have to wait for my new stock of PETG to arrive. Got the belt cut too, this rubber stinks, and I may have to hang it outside for a week or two. I've got more than enough materials that I should be able to make extra pouches and belts for some other PTs.

Good eye. It has been noted in the past. We acknowledge that some shots are flipped for the purpose of filming and storytelling and just handle it as that. For the sake of uniformity we only use the non-flipped Biker Scout. It always good to have folks willing to search for the little details.

Congrats. Well earned.
