  1. Based on how nice Greedos armor is that you did it would be nothing short of sweet Spike. Hopefully there will enough interest for you to make a go of it as I'd love to see what you come up with.
  2. Squeeeeeee!!! Must find maker!
  3. Seriously?!?! I didn't think a maker would do this. I'm stoked!
  4. You're doing exactly what you need to do and that's take the time to get the fit right. Remember the measure twice cut once adage. You don't want to make a mistake that you'll regret later so keep up the test fits and get everything right on the first go. If you look at the last picture you have a bit of drop on your back armor. It could be that the bridge overlaps aren't even though. A good way to get/keep the chest/back level is to sit them both on a level surface then overlap and tape the bridges. Since I'm a pipsqueak I had to trim the bridges down and heat them up to pull the two pieces in but you may not have to do that you want the two pieces to line up so the side strapping is as level as possible. Remember that this part also goes over two pieces of soft armor (flightsuit & vest) s9o make sure you keep a bit of room to account for that. Looking at the pics it doesn't seem to that you'll need to "bend" the bridge straps in. It should be about center over your shoulder and it looks ok to me. Keep up the great work and stay patient it will pay off in the end.
  5. There are several over in the Armory but some also end up in build threads. You just have to leaf through them. There's just so much information on the helmet it can be overwhelming but keep at it. Another thought would be to search You Tube for KS build maybe someone posted a video there? Just a thought.
  6. Thanks for the education. I remember reading that some makers will place "tells" on their pieces that only they know about to identify their work in cases like this.
  7. How can you tell a recast? I'm asking because I wouldn't have been able to tell. Do the makers leave some sort of signature that helps a buyer know it's a recast.
  8. Looking good so far! If you need something else to do your knees will need the 0.5" elastic riveted to the top. Add some scrap plastic to the insides to strengthen it then you can rivet the elastic in. Just make sure you size the elastic in your flightsuit or jeans so you get the length right. You don't want to have to drill rivets out if you don't have to:) I think Panda covers that and I think it's in my build thread too if you need. Keep up the good work!
  9. Thanks Spike! Small world. I was a big 40k player back in the day. My favs were Eldar and of course the Marines. I wonder how much Games Workshop made off of my paychecks:) Love to see pics of your Marine costumes Spike.
  10. No it won't hold up a basic approval the CRL states nothing specific about the t-bits only that the armor will have them: Upper Arm Armor For 501st approval: Gloss white, semi-gloss or lightly weathered. Armor has a recessed area with a "t-bit" detail attached within. Black elastic is used to secure the armor around upper arm. It is only specified in the Lancer standards that the two "dots" face forward: For level two certification (if applicable): Film-accurate "T-bit" detail is mounted to armor. T-bit circle detail piece faces forward on each arm. Armor is secured around the arm with a 35mm ( 1 & 3/8") black elastic strap. Spike I certainly didn't intend to question your work because I think it's excellent. I was just going by what the CRL states but you make an excellent point and it's got me searching my archives for LFL scout pictures. What I wouldn't give for an hour with Ira Keeler. I got about a thousand questions I would like to ask him
  11. I had a KS helmet and it was tight and I have a 23" melon like Chunk so I went with a Spike lid which has plenty of room but as the XO said it's not a kit. SC is a popular "you build it" lid and you can always try MC but not sure on the lead time there you'll have to reach out to them and check.
  12. The "tbits" on the bicepts are not correct. Good catch! You can either get some after market bits or you could take a razor saw trim off the bottom, turn it around a reglue it. Shoot Spike a PM and let him know too as I bet he'll want to get that corrected. It looks like an easy fix.
  13. The XO was pretty much on in his post. If you want an assembled lid ready out of the box your looking at between $300 up to scary$$$ for a movie repro. You can save a bit by building it yourself and those start around $200 or so. There is a great helmet comparison thread in the armory. Head on over and take a look and that will help you get an idea of the lids available to you.
  14. I love my Altmann bucket! Look forward to seeing that armor come together.
  15. JediParamedic also has a good thread for the shadow scout he built for his son that can be found in the under 18 section. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  16. I forgot to mention that If you need some 1.5inch shoot me a PM and Ill send some extra I have off to you. Cheers!
  17. I would just go ahead and use the 2 inch mate. That's what is in the 501st CRL and that's what your GML is going to go from. The Command staff supposedly has plans to get the 501st CRL updated but there has been no movement on that yet. You'll pass basic with the 2 inch and you can easily change it out with the 1.5 inch when/if you go for Lancer. Hope that helps and look forward to seeing some pre approval pics.
  18. Do it. I love my Altmanns too but I wouldn't pass it up. If it comes to pass that you have to part with it you will not have any worries selling it. For me I'd take that lid over an RS anyday:)
  19. Looking good! I thing I see is you'll need to switch arms on your bicept armor. The "rivets" always face forward and your right they have to come forward a bit but that's a fitment issue and not a big deal until you submit. Make sure you are leaving enough space on your chest and back armour to fit your vest and bund. If you get the played too tight then it's going to be even tighter once you are wearing those pieces. Not sure if the OMP logo at the arms might be an issue. It looks like the vest will cover it but you don't want the vest sleeves too long as it will bunch under your shoulder bell and look poufy. It would cooler if the company name was IMP instead of OMP:) I hope this helps. Its looking good! Keep up the great work and posts!
  20. Congratulations to the Pathfinder who helped me start this journey! Congrats again Wayne and I hope to follow in your footsteps one day.
  21. Maybe Chef or Marcel might know. They are both Pathfinders and members of the UKG. I bet they could point you in the right direction. Send them a PM and see what they say.
  22. Hi! Great starting question! There are several makes and models to choose from and they all have slightly different fits. The best place to start your helmet hunt is over in the Armory. There is a sub-forum there dedicated to helmets. You'll need a minimum of five posts to access the trade forum so head out into the forest and start looking around and let us know how we can help.
  23. That looks like a UKSwrath setup to me. He's got a run going on in the trade forum. Don't have one myself but hear good things about them.
  24. Congratulations!
  25. Hey Stormie have you checked out the trade forum? There are a few boot makers on there. There is chrisx909x, marcel, and a few other I believe. I had Chris make the parts for my boots and finished assembly myself but he can do the whole nine yards for you if you want. The makers there are scouts and your boots will be top notch. Take a look and let us know if you have any questions.
