  1. Good job so far and that was a good idea to use a pair of old jeans. The patches look a tad long in the front and back so you might want to trim them back a bit. Here are some pictures of my patches that might help.
  2. Thank you very much for the kind words Constantin. I know my costume well because of Pathfinders like you, Mickey, Jim, Chef, and others that have gone before me. You all set the example to follow. I will break out the costumes book tonight, check your Lancer thread and start sewing a new cod. I'll resubmit my front photo when that is complete. If there are any close ups or further clarifications needed please let me know and I will provide those as well. Thank you and the team for taking the time to review and comment on my armor I appreciate it.
  3. I use a Magic Eraser to clean the scuffs off of my armor and boots after every troop. Darn Sandtroopers almost always bump into me during troops leaving marks.

  5. Best place to begin your research is over in the Armory. There you'll be able to check out all the parts that go into the costume and learn how they go together. Strider has an ongoing build thread where he's building a set to Lancer Spec and there is a ton of information there. The information there will help guide you in what to do and also what not to do as you make your way to approval. Most folks start with their boots, balaclava, and gloves and move out from there. If you have a sewing machine you can sew your own softgoods using the patterns and guidance found here. There a quite a few armor makers so research is the key to find the maker that fits you. We're here to help you be successful so head out and start checking out the wealth of information here. Post up any questions in the related forums we have a host of folks here that will be happy to point you in the right direction.
  6. I second this. Once I got up the courage to do my own sewing I found it was so much better to do it yourself. I remade my cod and shortened the sleeves on my vest. My machine was a small investment but it made a big difference. Folks like MJ and Chef are great tutors and give you the confidence that you can do it yourself.
  7. Looking at the pics it doesn't look straight/level. Maybe take a look through some of the helmet compare threads and even Strider's Lancer build. You should find some references there. I'll take a look through my costume book and see if I can find something.
  8. Welcome to the Pathfinders Andrew!
  9. Welcome to the Pathfinders!
  10. It's looking great. Recommend getting as close as you can to the edge of the tube. The end caps will cover the edges and it will look much better. Great choice on the blaster I have a DVH too and I love it.
  11. Congratulations Lancer!
  12. That looks great. Nice work! If you need the grey bolts I have an extra 3M set I can spare. Shoot me a PM.
  13. Congratulations Lancer!
  14. It looks suede enough to me. Mine isn't real fuzzy either so that looks fine. Gotta watch that seam ripper especially when it comes to your fingers! That's an easy fix so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Those pockets are toughies so take your time so you don't give yourself any additional repair work.
  15. What I did was trim off the plastic threads just above the square base and then drilled a shallow hole in the square where the threads were. Don't go all the way through! The hole I drilled was a bit smaller than the diameter of the replacement threads I was using. I removed the bolts from my Altmann's and removed the threads. I heated the threads up on my stove (please be safe doing this!) and gently pushed them into the hole I drilled out. Go slow so you keep the thread straight and square. Let them cool. Now comes the slightly scary part. Push the bolt through your visor/helmet and using the square base as a pattern mark your helmet visor and trim it out using a hobby knife. The bolt should now sit flush. Take a lock washer and a nut and assemble you visor back together. Remember to not overtighten! Your lid should be good to go. I didn't use the remaining pieces in the kit just the covers.
  16. Here's the tutorial from Chef: http://www.chefscreations.co.uk/building-a-scout-helmet/ I'm building a Chef helmet for my Shadow Scout and I'm building a WTF lid for my son and they are both similar so this tutorial should do the trick. If you're building a shadow I would recommend moving it over to SpecOps as that will be your Detachment for this costume. Here's the link: http://forum.501stspecopsdet.net/index.php?/forum/16-shadow-scouts/ I got one ongoing over there under my callsign so look me up there. We got a good crew both here and over there.
  17. There are a few Scouts here working with the leather but nothing definitive as of yet in regards to type. I'd stick with the vinyl for now and proceed on with your build. You can always upgrade to the leather at a later date once the details have been worked through.
  18. The ARC/BARC troopers reach across two detachments. The Kashyyyk Scout here in the Pathfinders utilizes a two piece suit based on a British desert pattern. The Clone ARC uses a one or two piece undersuit much like a Stormtrooper. The Bikerscout undersuit is unique to to this costume. The Redkap is the easiest to modify from the start which is why it's the most used suit. The WW is a good suit but it's better suited to a TIE Pilot, TIE Reserve, or Imperial Crewmember.
  19. Awesome. Be sure to take it slow and repeat the words measure twice then trim. Chopper has a point about the snout greeblie. I would change that out and I would replace the decals with a set from Trooperbay. There are several vendors that you can get the snout from so if you need any help there let us know. Looking forward to seeing your bucket come together!
  20. Very cool! Looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

  22. Here's a review I wrote regarding that particular blaster. Hope it helps. http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=15585
