TB-12110 "Ruthar" CHiPs Request (Approved)
BikerScout007 replied to Ruthar's topic in CHiPs Deployment Request
Thanks for your application, Taylor. We're going to get on this right away. -
Hey folks! The CRL team, in conjunction with our LMO rep @Hask, have tweaked the Level 1 Patrol Trooper CRL (thanks to all the folks who bought the Hot Toys figure) and have now added Level 2 requirements. The CRL is available here: http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:TB_Patrol_trooper So who will be the first to step up and join the (C)orellia (Hi)ghway (P)atrol, or "CHiPs" program? @Ruthar? @Spiel? @wingnut65? Put your application in here: http://forum.501stpathfinders.com/index.php?/forum/186-chips-deployment-request-copy/

To apply for the Corellia Highway Patrol ("CHiPs") within the 501st Pathfinder Detachment, please follow the steps outlined below: First, you must be approved for the costume you are applying for. If you aren't, get approved through your local Garrison. Post a thread in this section with your specific build details (i.e., title = "[TB-ID] CHiPs Request"). Make sure to list the maker of the armor, all parts and pieces in the build, and any other relevant information for your application. Include clear build images. It's usually best to post pics on an image hosting service like Imgur, Photobucket, or Flickr and link them in the thread. Only the applicant and Level 2 Review Team can comment on your thread. ALL other comments will be removed. The Level 2 Review team will be in touch with feedback. Once approved, the status of your application will be "APPROVED". An announcement to the forum will be made and your action pic will be posted to the Pathfinder Hall of Fame.

I should add, I just checked in with Walt today over at WTF and he is getting closer to pulling Patrol Trooper armor. He's just not there yet.

Patrol Trooper CRL revision (and Level 2)!
BikerScout007 replied to BikerScout007's topic in Patrol Trooper HQ
I'm a control freak I also like to keep a back up of the CRL on my desktop. Just in case! -
We allow 100% clean Scouts because of the Death Star parade scene from ROTJ. That scene was shot and then all the costumes were weathered for the Endor scenes. You are totally fine for Lancer as a clean Scout.

Like Taylor said, Armory Shop is pretty much the only vendor selling completed kits at this point (and I mean COMPLETE -- soft parts too!) Not sure what purgeworx is offering. Not very familiar with them. There are also 3-D files floating around. A group of us in So Cal Garrison are working from those right now.

Excellent! If you crack that one open for me, I'll be happy to make the changes. -

I agree. The notch is easy to add with a Dremel, but some propmakers add the notch when casting them too. -

Okay fair enough. This is a detail the Shore trooper has and I figured since all the new generation of troopers are using the same gloves and handplates, they'd also have the notch. But I'll take it out until we get more evidence. -

Patrol Trooper CRL revision (and Level 2)!
BikerScout007 replied to BikerScout007's topic in Patrol Trooper HQ
Okay team, I've incorporated all the suggestions into the CRL rewrite in the original post of this thread. Please give it a look. I'm battling a bad summer cold right now, so very likely I missed something. And if you disagree with something, please let me know. We are getting close on this one! -

Good choices! We look forward to your build and helping out. -
I think canvas and regular cotton just hold color different, and absorb dirt differently. It's very apparent here, with the webbing straps as well. Also, aging would have an effect on these fabrics. The costume was close to 30 years old at this point. "Glorious"?

I'm fully on board with mesh for Level 2. I think we've got enough evidence for it. -

As long as we can't see it when viewing your costume (or any evidence of it) then that should be fine. -

Yes I think that's a great idea. It's also on the Shoretrooper -

BikerScout007 replied to BikerScout007's topic in Patrol Trooper HQ
Ah I see. I'm not overly familiar with the TK CRL. Since the strapping system is the same as the Shoretrooper, I just used the same language except changing it from tan to white. I like consistency across all Pathfinder CRLs. -
Patrol Trooper CRL revision (and Level 2)!
BikerScout007 replied to BikerScout007's topic in Patrol Trooper HQ
Right -- so it just seems to be a design element of motorcycle patrol pants. Some people are going to have these anyway because they are actually ordering patrol officer pants from police supply stores. And for all we know, the production got the pants from the same type of place. Hmm, I'm still on the fence about it, but we can add it as a recommended option for Level 2. -

True, but if we got mesh on the production helmet as well as the Anovos helmet.... I don't think that's a coincidence. -

BikerScout007 replied to BikerScout007's topic in Patrol Trooper HQ
The mesh can be seen on the Anovos lid so I think we can safely add that to the Level 2 requirements. Not for L1 though. -
Ha! I like to think that we have high standards. But our basic CRLs are still very achievable. I mean... we're really not going to know what boots they ended up using until we see the park characters, so it's a moot debate.

BikerScout007 replied to BikerScout007's topic in Patrol Trooper HQ
Fully in agreement about the white shoulder straps. We need to specify that they are rubber-like and ribbed. The boots...not so sure on this. I mean really, for basic you are doing a front, back and sides pic. So as far as the GML is concerned, as long as it looks correct with everything on, you should be okay. I don't think the CRL is really the place to be putting every possible configuration someone could come up with to make it look like they are wearing boots. -
I'm going to make a little confession here.... something I've been silent about for years. But now's the time. I don't think the pouches or dropbox straps were ever off-white. I think they were white from the very beginning. At least in ROTJ. So where is this whole "off-white" thing coming from? I think it's down to the heavier fabrics of the pouches and dropbox straps looking different on film than the lighter cotton of the bund and codpiece. Different materials hold color in different ways, even if they are all white. There was obviously some weathering done, but I don't believe they were uniformly tea-stained. Also aging plays into it. Canvas tends to yellow over the years. So people see the MotM exhibit Scout and the materials have yellowed, so they think that's how they were in the film. I just don't see any evidence of this in the movie itself. They just look like a slightly dirty white to my eye. The dropbox straps may have been bone colored -- that's a common color for cotton webbing, but I've seen plenty of photos (especially of the prototype Scouts) where those straps look starkly white. There have also been Biker Scout toys where the soft goods were painted off-white, but again, I see no evidence of this in the movie itself. The soft goods look white to me. Maybe dirtied up a bit, but not tea-stained. The toys tend to exaggerate this effect. They've also made the bund off-white which I think is just wrong. But some things become tradition over time and I'm not going to remove off-white goods from the CRL. It's your choice whether you want to do it or not. Personally, my stuff is white.

Patrol Trooper CRL revision (and Level 2)!
BikerScout007 replied to BikerScout007's topic in Patrol Trooper HQ
I just looked at the Hot Toys figure I was lent. There is definitely rings on both sides of the TD, but they don't appear silver. I'm trying to remember now where we got that info from when we wrote the CRL! And here's the riding patch. It's more of a butt patch than the one the Scout trooper has. I'm a little torn about this one. It would be a good Level 2 detail.
