Making a cummerbund, pouches, and cod
BikerScout007 replied to Zugor's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Soft Parts
Hey bud! You said you took the measurements off my suit, but looking at yours it looks like maybe you used the rear measurements for the front? You want the front half of the patches to come out a bit and extend down to just about the knee. Here is my flight suit on a mannequin from the CRL: -
I just shipped a bunch of racing shirts from the US to Australia with no issue. Were you trying to order from Wampa Wear? Besides Imperial Boots, there is also Crowprops for gloves. But I'm just curious what the particular problem was. Maybe there's a way we can make it work for you.
-
I think this one has run its course. Good chat, folks!

Well if you decide you want to hit the beach, we are here for you!

There's a lot of things about the Shadow Scout that I don't understand, but it's in a different Detachment so it's Spec Ops' purview to decide what happens with it. I can just say that with all the Star Wars coming out, there has been a movement toward walling off the Original Trilogy characters and I am definitely of that mindset.
-
If it was used in BF2 I haven't seen it yet (don't really play that game) but it was added to the CRL way before that game came out. Yup, and that's the way I like it!
-
The DLT-20a was what was actually used in the game, that's why it got added. I'm not so sure what the reasoning behind the DLT-19x was. But again, if it were up to me I would keep it strictly film canon!
-
Yes! This is the attitude I like. There is so much to learn, but it really helps to get the basics down first and go from there.
-
No problem! I know there's a lot to learn when you're first starting out. And different troops have different levels of canon. Some are CRL enforced, like LFL events, and some are a little looser, like Conventions. Just always check with your Garrison if you are unsure!
-
Guys -- Wookiepedia is not a canon source. Also the old Battlefront games are now Legends, so no longer canon. Video game loadouts are also not always canon, as they tend not to be particular to one character but can be used by several. We discussed the E-11 and there's just no desire to add it to the CRL. And honestly, if it were up to me, the DLTs wouldn't be on there either, as they were not used in "Return of the Jedi". All this stuff happened when there wasn't as much Star Wars as there is now. Now we have things coming at us from every direction and often from sources that are not as close to LFL as we'd prefer. Did someone at LFL say "let's give the Scouts E-11 because that's a direction we want to take the character in" or did some comic book penciller who doesn't know the lore as well as we all do just draw them because that's a gun he's familiar with? I guess I have to ask -- what's wrong with the EC-17? That's the Scout blaster, specially made for us by the production team of ROTJ. We feeling a little laser envy?

1. It's a good thing the Celebration patch was part of LAST term's merch then, huh? 2. We've got several people working on finishing the Treadspeeder Driver. When @gmrhodes13 announced he was going to do it, I commissioned the design. It was to get ahead of the game and save time and money. Glen is one of the most reliable and well respected builders in the Legion; I don't think anyone foresaw that he would get injured and unable to complete it. After Glen we had four more false starts. At this point, @MrPoopie and myself have recruited someone within our Garrison so we can finally get this done and oversee the process. And now @Ruthar is also in the race. So at this point, it's a matter of who will get it finished first. Hoping to have a CRL within the first two months of this term. Sorry it's taken so long. But the fact is, the way things go now with CRL development is that they get assigned to a Detachment first. Rather than have Dets fight over them (a la the Shoretrooper). So once the decision was made (between the DLs and LMO team) to assign the Treadspeeder to us, this was its home. 3. Standard Logo merch -- @plagu3is and I have already discussed this and we will be running some Main Logo (ie Scout only) patches this year. But at the same time, we'll be running the 6 helmet logo on the t-shirt. We can't have variants and I want to have something on offer for everyone in our Detachment. 4. The baseball jersey was last run 3 years ago. I think 3 years is enough time to bring something back in from rotation. Just as we are doing with the main logo patches. But we are still at the design phase on that one so it may or may not happen. I want to explore the options this apparel company that the Legion uses has on offer. I'm well aware that there are differences in tastes worldwide -- I've travelled out of the US several times. I also know that a lot of folks enjoy Americana. NASCAR style racing shirts for some reason became a thing, so who knows. We'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. Thank you! I noticed you were closing in on Ranger; I look forward to awarding you your Certificate and getting your pic up on the Wall!

THANK YOU PATHFINDERS! I appreciate your continuing support as your Detachment Leader for the 2022-2023 term. With Celebration coming up very soon, we already have plenty to do. And I've got a few other big ideas I'm working on for the new term! I look forward to seeing old friends and making new ones in Anaheim this May, and as always, you can find me on the forum as BikerScout007. The Command Team is ready to help you meet your costuming goals. Thanks once again to the Officers, Armor Team and everyone else who make the 501st Pathfinders the best Detachment in the Legion! Pathfinders Lead the Way!

The child crl question
BikerScout007 replied to Giro118's topic in Scout Trooper: "The Mandalorian" Weapons/Accessories
At this point it's in the hands of your Garrison. If they allow you to troop with it, that's fine. Some events, like conventions, are probably okay. There may be others where they won't allow it. Based on my discussions with LMO and other DLs, it's not something we will be adding to the CRL at this time. -
Just as an example, I printed my 4 year old daughter's Shoretrooper armor at 2 walls and 10% infill. Not only is it light, but it has some flex. Went 4 walls/20% on collar, hand plates, buckles, etc. She ran around for two hours at a con with that armor on and it surprisingly stayed in one piece. So if it works for a 4 year old, I think it should do well for 40 year olds
-
No the chest isn't really a stress part. It's not on a joint or somewhere that's going to be under much pressure. The collar piece I'd print thicker, because that does bridge two parts. The greaves might be an area of concern. Fortunately the Shoretrooper is a hard-soft blend, so a lot of the places where you bend aren't armored. The Handplates I'd print at 4 walls -- your hands bump into all kinds of stuff. Any greebs you print -- make thicker. They tend to brush up against things and get knocked around. @MrPoopie might have some further input

The child crl question
BikerScout007 replied to Giro118's topic in Scout Trooper: "The Mandalorian" Weapons/Accessories
Yes, my thought in discussing this with a few folks is that a living creature would have to seem that way, ie. animatronic or a puppet of sorts. -
Hey Scot Please keep in mind this point I made in my post about Level 2 and New Recruits: We don't do Lancer Pre-Approval. When you are ready to apply, just apply. The L2 team will tell you what to fix. It's not a big deal, dude. My submission-to-approval process lasted months. Of course, things were a little slower then. But the point is, just apply. Don't worry if it's not perfect. It seems like you're really getting in your head about this and my advice is to just relax, take a deep breath, and trust in yourself. The L2 team will help you get across the finish line once you've submitted your Lancer app. For now, just focus on the build and the CRL. As we like to say around here "make it look like the picture!" http://www.501stpathfinders.com/scoutopedia.php And remember, we don't evaluate what cannot be seen from the outside!
-
I'll definitely take the suggestion! But please bear in mind that our mindset when drafting this CRL was how to best represent what is shown in the source material, not how to make this a plug-in for the ROTJ Scout. We always looked at this as a character in its own right, just as we did with the Mandalorian Scout. As different as the various Shoretroopers are from one another. Unfortunately with video game characters, there are considerations with design that aren't practically motivated. Such as keeping the polygon count low. Or a 3d character designer missing a detail or just simplifying them. We do our best to work around these limitations. The question was - is this an intentional choice or a misinterpretation of the original character? We felt the JFO was different enough that most of the choices were intentional. But I'm happy to review this! We haven't considered an L2 yet but that may be coming up!
-
You can't go wrong with the Cura defaults of 4 walls at 20% infill. But I personally don't think you need that much and it can make the parts a little heavy. 2 walls at 10% works well for most parts and allows them to flex a bit (though not as much as pulled ABS). You may want to do 4 walls/20% infill for heavy stress parts though.

The child crl question
BikerScout007 replied to Giro118's topic in Scout Trooper: "The Mandalorian" Weapons/Accessories
No. And I've asked the other DLs as well as the head LMO and as far as I've been told, there is no CRL where a life form with its own agency is an optional accessory. If Grogu was going to be paired up with any CRL, it would make the most sense to put him with Din, and that hasn't been done either. https://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:BH_DinDjarinS1V2 I know there is a "no puppet" CRLs rule, and this falls somewhere in that territory, though admittedly not exactly. It's not a precedent I can set on my own and would need some sort of wider discussion with the LMOs and Legion command. -

Not that I remember. And the Grogus folks troop with haven't been of the screen quality type. Usually stuffed animals. Have you been prevented from trooping with a Grogu? -
