30569's Niamos Shoretrooper Build
BikerScout007 replied to ScarifBeachBum's topic in Shoretrooper WIP
Marble I think goes a bit too much into gray. Which I guess isn't too far off the mark with the onscreen appearance in some shots (especially in the beginning of Ep 7) but we know they used pastel blue and I think we should keep it in that ball park. The photo of the actor without helmet probably gives us our best image to try to match and I think that's where Polar Blue, Flipper or Fresh Blue make the most sense. At the end of the day, these will only be suggested colors. The CRL is probably going to say something to the effect of "Light pastel blue". My aim is just to make sure that troopers are using very light blues and not blues used by Scarif troopers (like Himalaya or Ford Nordic) -
General question about assembly
BikerScout007 replied to Darth Voorhees's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
The "loops" never look right to me because they tend to bow in the center, which we never see in the films. Given the ziptie anchor attachment under the join and the fact that in some screenshots you can see what looks like fraying around the edges of the strip, my guess is it's just a strip of what looks like 1 inch elastic glued over the join. It's not been immortalized in the CRL right now because a loop at least looks correct from the outside. We never judge the costumes by what happens on the insides! -
Pathfinders Virtual Armor Party Q2 2022 (YouTube Video Posted)
BikerScout007 replied to MrPoopie's topic in Announcements
Sorry I was late to respond! We absolutely love doing Zoom armor parties. The thing is, the last few have pretty much just been Command meetings with maybe one or two people popping in to ask a question. It seems that since live armor parties started up again, less folks show up for the Zoom ones. But since I love chatting with Command on Zoom, we can certainly schedule one and if people want to join they can! -
We have a pretty solid list of Shoretrooper vendors here: As for tools -- Dremels are always great. Lexan scissors for cutting plastic. A leather punch for putting holes in the belt for Chicago Screws. Or the plastic for adding snaps. A snap tool! Sanding blocks. Different types of glues. Lots of painters tape! A good way for seeing what is needed is by reading through some of the WIP threads on the forum. http://forum.501stpathfinders.com/forum/129-shoretrooper-wip/ Any questions at all just post them up. We have a great Shoretrooper Armor Team of @KOtrooper and @Minimo

THANK YOU PATHFINDERS! It seems that after 5 years, you all aren't sick of me yet. I want to thank you all for allowing me to continue on in the role of Detachment Leader -- and especially for such an important year to the Pathfinders: the 40th Anniversary of "Return of the Jedi". Every costume in this Detachment has spiritual lineage going back to the ROTJ Scout Trooper, so it's wonderful that we get to celebrate the trooper that started it all. We didn't want to waste any time getting the 40th Anniversary celebrations underway, so most of our plans for the year have already been laid out: you've seen the 40th anniversary design that will be used for a lot of the merch this year. We also have our June 3rd meeting at Cheatham Grove (in coordination with Golden Gate Garrison and the Humboldt-Del Norte Film Commission) -- and at the end of the year we are still pushing for a huge turnout of Scouts (and other ROTJ kits) for the Hollywood Christmas Parade, which I believe will be November 26, 2023. Coming up in April, Celebration Europe returns to London for the first time since 2016! And though I will not be able to make it this time around, we will still have a Pathfinders photo scheduled after the main Legion photo on Saturday 8 April at 12PM. I can't wait to see you all in gear in London! https://www.501st.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=249&t=112007 CRLS! We finished out the last term with the Treadspeeder Driver from "The Rise of Skywalker", a CRL that had been many years in the making. Right now, the only potential CRL in the works is the Shoretrooper from "Andor". The biggest issue with that one is just nailing down the right shade of blue! But with a full slate of Disney+ shows coming in 2023, I will be watching with notepad in hand, ready to see any potential CRLs that would be a good fit for the Pathfinders. And along with any new CRLs, I will, of course, be doing videos this term. My plan is to do an updated ROTJ Scout CRL video, with an emphasis on the build process. Additionally, because we have the 5 year anniversary of "Solo" in May, a Patrol Trooper CRL walkthrough is also in the works! We know a lot of you want to build a Patrol Trooper, but have been stymied by the lack of jacket makers. We have been working with Crowprops to see if Gio can offer one. We hope to be able to help in this area soon. MERCH! Most of the merch this term will revolve around the ROTJ 40th Anniversary, using the logo Pete Hague designed for us. I am really thrilled about the response to the Pathfinders Baseball Jerseys, but I promise we will do another racing shirt this term! STAFFING! Every year around this time, I get messages from various folks along the lines of "Hey, I'm not doing [FORMER LEGION JOB] anymore, so if you need any help over at Pathfinders, I'm willing to join Command!" All these offers are appreciated, but there's a few things I should address about this: 1. My number one criteria for adding anyone to staff is this: DO THEY PARTICIPATE ON THE FORUM? Are they on here everyday, doing the work? When someone says they want to join the Detachment, first place I head is here: http://forum.501stpathfinders.com/leaderboard/ I can see at a glance who has the most posts and who is getting the most upvotes. I will always reward folks who are here day in and day out over folks who just want to pad out their resume or get access to Command merch (and folks -- it's been years since we've done Command exclusives, so you're barking up the wrong tree!). If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times -- there's a massive difference between trooping in a costume and building one. If you troop for your Garrison a lot and put in a lot of time doing events -- that's probably where you should offer your services! Detachments are about writing, research, and staring at screenshots until you go cross-eyed. Trooping has very little to do with what goes on here. 2. Do they have unique knowledge? I've got plenty of ROTJ Scout experts. That's not an area that needs bolstering. Usually when a new Armor Team member is added, it's because they are servicing one of our other costumes, like the Patrol Trooper or the Kashyyyk. Or they are doing a special job -- like PR. We got plenty of folks that can say "Yup, that codpiece looks good" already! 3. Is there a need? I don't add staff just to add staff. And this term for the first time there's been no turnover. For some reason, all these nuts want to stay in the nuthouse So while I appreciate the offers, at this time, the Detachment is in good hands. Well that's all for now! I look forward to another fun year! Mickey Bukowski TB/ST-81974 Pathfinders Detachment Leader (2018-Present)

Armor question
BikerScout007 replied to Ghost40's topic in Scout Trooper: "The Mandalorian" Armor/Helmet
Just a good general rule with the Mandalorian Scout -- don't read the ROTJ Scout CRL at all. The Mando Scout CRL has all the info you need to do the costume. I find a lot of people confuse themselves going back and forth doing a compare/contrast when there's no need to. They are two different costumes with two different sets of requirements. If something is on one and not the other, it's because it's supposed to be that way. Any armor will meet the requirements for the Mando Scout, but the WTF armor (not the helmet) was what was used on the show. -

https://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:TB_Treadspeeder_Driver Folks, after 3 long years, the Treadspeeder Driver is now a live CRL ready for GML approval! This one had a long, tough road. Which I guess is fitting for this character and what he drives. First, he was part of a friendly game of hot potato between us, FISD, and ACD ("no you take it", "no you!"). Then he got caught up in the pandemic. And then went through builder after builder who started it, and then had to abandon the project. Five times as a matter of fact! Finally, at the beginning of last year, @MrPoopie and I recruited a great builder from our Garrison, @JollyRajR to finally get it done. Although the Tread is part FOTK, he also needed some custom parts, which MrPoopie designed and 3D printed. I'll be the first to admit this one wasn't a favorite of mine when we first inherited it: I'm not a huge fan of the sequel trilogy designs, and this one seemed a bit tossed together compared to some other troopers from those films. But as time went on and we got to working on it, I came around to the ol' Treadspeeder Driver, and I'm pleased to say the Pathfinders now have their first (and likely only) CRL from the sequel trilogy films. I'm hoping this CRL might be a good add-on for FOTKs who want to be able to sit down from time to time. Using their current kit, and swapping in a few parts, they could do this one pretty easily. Also -- we only did the live action Treadspeeder Driver. There is still the CGI version, who has quite a few differences from this one. If anyone is interested in tackling that, please let us know! Thank you all who made this happen, not only the folks mentioned above, but people who chimed into the research threads, like @gmrhodes13, @Pyro, @Wompet, @Hask and many others. All of you helped play a part getting this across the finish line. And of course -- I want to thank @mrrikki and the rest of the LMO team. As always, they were an absolute pleasure in helping us bring another Pathfinder CRL onto the roster!

If I've said it once, I've said it 1000 times.... the 40th Anniversary only happens once
-
Any and all will be welcome to come. For our 40th Anniversary photos I imagine there will be: 1. All ROTJ Scouts 2. All Battle of Endor armors (Scouts, TKs, Officers, AT-ST drivers, Rebel Commandos, Ewoks, etc 3. Everybody

Cassandra did say she will see what hotels are willing to give us a group rate too, so I will pass on the info when I get it!

Cassandra said there was one by Cheatham Grove. I'm going to stay in a hotel

That's a bummer. I know this date is not as convenient for some (or else it would have been picked in the poll), but the Film Commissioner said the town's date is firm. And this seems to be the best way we can help the community and be taken care of while we are up there.

BIG UPDATE Okay major thanks to @BigJasoni for bringing that article to my attention. I had a nice conversation with the Humboldt-Del Norte Film Commissioner, Cassandra Hesseltine. She explained to me what they want to do and I offered up suggestions about how we could help. I have also circled in the GGG GCO, Gynnie Lindquist, since this is going to be on her turf. Cassandra explained to me that part of what the Film Commission does up there is promote tourism based on films that have been shot in the area. And the big one, of course, is "Return of the Jedi." Because it's the 40th anniversary this year, they are kicking off what they hope will be an annual celebration of that movie. She explained to me that the area has been really hard hit by the pandemic, and the hotel and shop owners have really been hurting. Based on other events in the area and what would be the best time for the locals to have this festival, the date they decided on was Saturday June 3rd. I explained to her that our aim was to take a photo in the redwoods and we had already decided on June -- in our case June 24th. But it seems like the best way we can use our power as a Force for good would be to move our meetup to June 3rd. It would be a huge boon to the economy to have troopers from all over staying in the hotels and eating and shopping. And it would kick off this inaugural festival in high gear. As I envision it, our involvement would be twofold: 1. Our photo meetup at Cheatham Grove. This is our reason for going and I don't see any reason to change that. Cassandra said the Film Commission would definitely be on hand for this, as photos of us in the shooting locations would be great for their purposes. She mentioned to me, and I already knew thanks to Jason and Whistler, that Cheatham Grove is kinda in the middle of nowhere, parking is slim and there are no accommodations other than a campground. So we would probably have to drive out there in the morning, meetup, do our pics, and then head back to where the festivities are held. 2. An actual troop at wherever their festival ends up being. So us walking around, taking pics, and being generally awesome like we always are. Once we get these details worked out, I'll see if this can be a troop handled through GGG, where folks would sign up like they would for any other event. The two things are mutually exclusive however! If you want to do the pic but not troop, that is ALL GOOD. I probably won't, just because I imagine I'll be busy doing admin stuff haha. Finally, Cassandra said she can find out what kind of group rates we can get for hotel stays. Which I said would be awesome! So if this is okay with everyone, for the reasons put forth in this post, I am proposing we change our date to June 3rd and participate in this awesome event that will help bring some needed money to that community and celebrate the love of Return of the Jedi!

I've been talking to @MrPoopie about getting ours up there.

Hi there! I believe @KOtrooper has some experience doing the garments from scratch! There are also some tutorials in the pinned posts here: http://forum.501stpathfinders.com/forum/153-shoretrooper-soft-parts/ If like me, you want to purchase them from propmakers, we have a vendor list here: Welcome to the Pathfinders forum!

Update -- I have a message out to the Humboldt Film Commission. If they are planning a weekend festival, then my feeling is to go along with that plan, and then let them request 501st via the Golden Gate Garrison I have also spoken to the GCO of GGG. GGG is planning a ROTJ meetup in April, but she said she would be happy to help out in June as well, particularly if this turns into a bigger thing, as the newspaper article suggests. I told her April had been considered, but I didn't want to have a conflict with Celebration and all the expenses that entails. So the 24th may be out -- it depends what the Film Commission and organizers up there say when I speak to them. If they want 501st, then this may just turn into a regular troop through GGG. That needs to be figured out. Either way, we will be getting our photos!

I will call them today! This may mean we have to change our date, so everyone should be prepared for that.

Folks, I will post up info as I get it, but remember to keep an eye on the 501st.com forum about CE2023: https://www.501st.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=249

It's really hard to say because we are all so different in body size, shape, etc. But when I printed armor for my daughter, I started with one simple piece (like a forearm) and then tried it at different percentages until I got the percentage that worked the best. Then I sized the other pieces accordingly. Mind you, she's 5 years old so YMMV. As far as the helmet, I've always heard that the SF helmet runs small and many people end up printing it at 102 or 103. So there may not be any changes needed there. Have you ever played with the Armorsmith program? It's designed specifically for that purpose -- sizing STLs for your body. It's not free -- but hey, neither are spools of wasted PETG. https://www.thearmoredgarage.com/ Maybe @KOtrooper can weigh in on this. She printed her armor too.

Hey Simone! We haven't gotten word on how the photos are being scheduled just yet. @Hask do you have any info on that?

Of those 4.... I would go with Jesus Salmeron. The others have various problems. 1 and 3 don't look right at all. 2 is better but still off. -
Melody beat me to it, but I agree. You could probably work with most of it, but that chest (and I'm guessing the back piece too) should be printed smaller, if you possible. Just a suiting up note, but your striped bell is on the wrong shoulder.
