BikerScout007's Shoretrooper Captain build
BikerScout007 replied to BikerScout007's topic in Shoretrooper WIP
This is the paint I used for my base coat, in case anyone is interested. It goes on real nice and easy. -
I've thought something similar! That way the production team could make a uniform size cummerbund that was adjustable to stunt guys of different sizes
-
Yeah I've noticed that return on the armor strap in another photo. You can see the stitching where it is sewn down. I'll dig around and see if I can find it. As for that "white strap" -- that is something Chef and I were discussing a few years back. You can see it in these two photos and we definitely thought it had something to do with holding up the cummerbund. "David Hague" has the white strap showing right next to his helmet, and the Rebel in Scout disguise from ROTJ you can see it above his right pouch.

Hey Rob! We met briefly at Celebration Orlando last year. I was hanging around after the event on Sunday with Gino, watching him break down his displays so I could learn whatever I could from the master. I agree with everything Dart has said above. He's given some great advice. I would definitely reduce the size of the pouches. Oversized pouches have been a bugbear of mine and we have added the 6x5x2 requirement to our CRL for Level 2 status. And adding to what Dart said above, behind-the-scenes Scout photos have been few and far between. I'm pretty sure a Scout costume has never fallen into private hands and this explains why the soft goods have been such a mystery. But we've managed to figure out quite a bit. I'll post some more reference photos below, but for a start, take a look at these from the Smithsonian exhibit in 1997:

As long as ALL mods are made (Mandarin collar, visible pockets removed, suede patches and thigh straps added) and it looks correct from the outside, this is absolutely an option!
-
Thanks for telling me. I will do my best to give you feedback. Others will probably chime in as well.

Hey Ioic! I'd like to take a look but unfortunately my work is blocking your photo host. Just for your information, you can now post photos directly into the forum post using the attachment tool below. I will look at these pictures later today. Also, the CRL has just been updated, including some of the Lancer requirements. While waiting for feedback you may want to look that over: http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:TB_Scout_trooper

Whiskeys scout build (almost there...)
BikerScout007 replied to Whiskey's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout WIP
Great attention to detail! -
We could probably use a better picture, for sure, but it's still a raglan sleeve. A standard sleeve connects at the shoulder, which that vest does not. And a scout vest that had the sleeve connect at the shoulder wouldn't look right, as the pics we have show the sleeve padding going past the shoulder area. But you're right, we could use a better pic. We have upgraded the armor pics over the years, but some of the soft goods pictures are still the same. I just had someone hit me up yesterday about the flight suit pic. We just have an Avirex flight suit posted with no mods! So now is a good time to change some of those up! Thanks for pointing that out
-
Hey Denise! Some folks were making their butt patches really neat and sewing a hem around the entire thing. That's what we are talking about. You can absolutely sew it to the flight suit without worry, because that seam is covered by the cummerbund (ie, not visible!) As for the animal products issue, if you refuse to wear them please bring that up when you make your Lancer application and the Lancer review team will discuss. The biggest issue is that the synthetic products just look really cheap compared to what was used with the real suits.

Making Molds: To split or not to split
BikerScout007 replied to StormyStormtrooper's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout HQ
You can do it either way. As long as the final product looks correct (and has a working flip-up visor) then you are good. KS and SC use the "cap and back" method of construction, and while it's not accurate to how the film helmets were made, do just fine. For Level 2, we just ask that the gap created around the crown of the helmet be filled in so that it looks to be one piece. Many makers are doing things the screen-accurate way now, and while the final product is usually superior, the build can be challenging. -
Lancer Standards as of 2018

Fixed! Thanks buddy. Can't believe we missed that after all the people this has been seen by. -

I'm pretty excited about this... Working in close coordination with the LMO team, Pathfinders Command and the Armor Team are proud to present the revised Biker Scout CRL! https://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:TB_Scout_trooper We've made revisions to both Level 1 and 2 to make an even easier to understand CRL. We hope that this clears up some of the confusion and conflicts over the years and makes it an easier process both for potential Scouts and GMLs. Also, the LMO team has created Galleries for each CRL so that even more photos can be included to aid costume builders and GMLs. We had to make one for the Patrol Trooper and we've just added one for the Biker Scout. Going forward, all our CRLs will eventually have Galleries! https://databank.501st.com/databank/CRL_Gallery:Biker_Scout Thanks to all who contributed to this revision and to the LMO team for making it a smooth process! We are going to be tackling the Kashyyyk next and that costume will finally get its long overdue Level 2! EDIT: Since some folks have asked, here is a comparison document showing the changes between the new CRL and the last version: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qh3awPCh_vqWPldGj5RFZseujpOFvSUr/view?usp=sharing

After having them down for a few months, I got the MoM pics back up. While glancing through them, I noticed the shoulder bridges on the display Scout were indeed off white. Now was this because it was dyed off-white or the original material was off-white or the aging process? I can't say for sure. But I know that this is enough for me to leave the option available for those that wish to do it. You can still leave this white and tea stain the other parts for Lancer and that is acceptable as well. Or be like me and leave it all white and shiny

My Lancer Scout Attempt (finally)
BikerScout007 replied to mikemakesmovies's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout WIP
The CRL has just been updated for Levels 1 AND 2 so make sure you have the latest info: http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:TB_Scout_trooper Good luck and we look forward to your build. -
That would be amazing. That original boot tutorial is 12 years old.
-
Ah these photos are missing too! Okay, I'll try to find them but that might be bit of a tall order. It might be easier for someone (cough, @cheesewhoopy, cough, cough), to make a brand new updated tutorial!

Found them and reposted them: Great shot of the Dogbone in there!

Here are the photos from the Magic of Myth Exhibition from way back in the day. The link below is to the Exhibit's VERY OLD website. https://airandspace.si.edu/exhibitions/star-wars/online/sw-unit1.htm /public_html/images/motmphotos/MOTM_10999.jpg

I look forward to your Lancer app! We always want to grow the ranks

It's optional and you can do it the way you want. The "two circles facing forward on each arm" has been a part of this CRL long before I was a Scout. The Detachment sets its own standards for Level 2 and they don't necessarily have to comport with what was on screen. There were a lot of mistakes, wardrobe errors and other anomalies in the movie that are technically "screen accurate" but arent the best representation of the costume. The t-bit greeblies that come with Scout kits have the two circles on opposite sides from each other. All that we ask is that when taking your Lancer app pics, you face the circles forward. If after that you wish to wear them the other way, that is totally up to you. This is a fit and finish issue more than an accuracy one.
