  1. Always follow the CRL! You can find one or two references where the greebs are reversed and I can find 100 where it is as described in the CRL.
  2. You should be fine then. Humidity will probably be more an issue than heat
  3. I live in a pretty warm part of the world and I've never felt the need for fans. Like Dart said, the earholes and the channel that connects them in the back of the helmet provides a lot of airflow. They knew what they were doing when they designed this helmet! Plus if you ever need a gasp of air, you can always lift up your faceplate
  4. I know he would probably not want me doing this, but I'm going to anyway. Today Marcel (@4505Marcel) let us know that he is hanging up his Scout and retiring from the Legion. For those of you who weren't around, Marcel was our longest-serving Detachment Leader. It might be hard to believe now, but back in the day, the Scout was considered an easy way to get into the Legion. It had fairly low requirements and wasn't held to the standard of scrutiny it is today. Marcel laid the foundation for the high level of accuracy we are currently enjoying with the Biker Scout. Flak vest? Butt patch? Thigh patches? You can credit (or blame!) Marcel for getting those added to basic. And taking a costume that was considered entry level to one of the best looking rigs in the Legion! We have continued his work as we drive our speeder bikes toward the future. All good things must come to an end though, and we wish Marcel the best in his future endeavors. Tip of the Lance!
  5. I've never heard anything more concrete than "Avirex flight suit." You're blazing a trail my man. Maybe Gino would know.
  6. There is a list of available numbers and you pick your top 5. You get this info when you go through the approval process. That is handled by your garrison. We are just here to help you with your build! Here are the list of available numbers: https://www.501st.com/members/search_avail_ids.php
  7. We can try to squeeze in a photo of all members, costume or not, but we may be pressed for time as there are other Detachments before and after us waiting for their photo shoot.
  8. Most of us just sew the thigh strap down right under the outer edges of the thigh patches. The comments were that you can see the strap's outline UNDER the thigh patches. There is nothing in the original to suggest this.
  9. Here's some thoughts We can't ban armor as a Detachment. We can only advise the LMOs and GMLs and hope they play along. We just don't have that authority. All of us play in the gray area of LFL's IP and none of us really have the right to enforce their copyrights. We can prevent Vendors from selling on our forums, but recasters don't come here to sell anyway. Whereas the real armor makers out there (like Cal) are out in the open and easy to find (as well as listed on our approved Vendors list), the recasters take a bit more work. You have to scout Ebay or etsy to find these scoundrels. I fear putting them out in the open is going to make it easier for less scrupulous folks to buy from them. Real talk.... the vast majority of the folks that come onto this forum are from English speaking countries or members that have really good working knowledge of English. I don't see a lot of recast armor pop up on the WIPs or the trooping logs of our active members. But do we have that kind of influence in say.... South America? Eastern Europe? The Middle East? I'd like to think so, but my guess is most of these recasters are selling to folks outside of the Detachment's area of influence. So people buying this stuff aren't coming here for advice anyway. All we would be doing is letting the people that do come here know there are cheaper alternatives out there, as long as they swallow their ethics. We found out about the folks that recast Cal's armor, because someone came on the boards and asked if it was approvable. This is a tough question. The answer, unfortunately, is yes. The armor met the requirements for basic as stipulated in the CRL. But we let the OP know it was recast and other options were available. Did that person pick someone else or go with the recaster? We have no idea and will probably never know. How many more people found out this recaster existed because of that post? How many more sales did they get? Again... we don't know. I'll make inquiries and see how other DLs handle this sort of thing. But my instinct is to give recasters no advertising at all -- even negative advertising.
  10. I use an older version of this: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Arrow-Fastener-Economy-Rivet-Tool-RT100M/304679378 1/8 rivets are the size you need.
  11. Interesting idea, Cal. We also just found another recaster from Poland that looks like he did a copy of the Strider/CFO kit. My only concern would be giving these recasters free advertising for people who want to save money by buying recast armor.
  12. To apply for the Lancer squad within the 501st Pathfinder Detachment, please follow the steps outlined below: 1. First, you must be approved for the costume you are applying for. If you aren't, get approved through your local Garrison. 2. Post a thread in this section with your specific build details (i.e., title = YourName Lancer Request). Make sure to list the maker of the armor, all parts and pieces in the build, and any other relevant information for your application. 3. Take photos of yourself in costume, front, back and sides (arms up and arms down). Try to take them outside if you can and in front of a plain wall. Make sure that the black details (riding patches, though straps, butt flap) on the coveralls are visible in the photos. Take your time suiting up and get someone to help you if you can. They can tell you if something is not on quite right. Here is a list of fit-and-finish items that slow down Lancer reviews and are easy to fix before taking pictures: Dropboxes are hanging down too low -- top of the dropbox should only be about an inch below the belt; Bicep armor is facing your rear instead of your sides. Rotate it forward; Forearm armor is facing your rear or is tucked inside of your glove. Rotate it so it's facing your sides and rests above the glove; Codpiece is crumpling -- lengthen the cod strap if it is pulling too tight. Codpiece should fit flat against your body and not pull tightly between your legs; Cummerbund should sit just on top of the belt in front and back; Butt patch is too long -- it should stop right where your butt stops; Flak vest sleeves are too long -- they should only protrude about an inch to an inch and a half past the shoulder bells; and Pouches are not spaced out properly -- they should sit in the area between the outermost rib on the bund and the edge of the chest armor. 4. Take pictures of all your gear. Using a ruler in the image is a great help to the team. Make sure the lighting is good. 5. Use a file sharing site to host your photos and post them as images in your application (not links, please). Make sure the images are large enough for the team to view all required details. 6. Only the applicant and Lancer Review Team should comment on your thread. ALL other comments will be removed. 7. The Lancer Review team will be in touch with feedback. 8. Once approved, an announcement to the forum will be made, a Certificate of Achievement will be emailed to you and your action pic will be posted to the Pathfinders Hall of Fame! 9. The LANCER forum badge is an award for your achievement and you will always keep it as long as you remain a member of the Detachment. If you leave the Detachment (by selling your costume and having it removed from your Legion profile or by retiring), your Lancer photo will be moved to the Retired Lancers section and your badge removed from your forum profile. GOOD LUCK!

  13. Good advice above. Listen to Chopper and Retrofire. Now actually you've asked two questions. There is only one Armor maker that makes screen-lineage armor and that is RS Props. So as far as accuracy is concerned, that is the highest you can get. RS also makes the most expensive kit. So for best price, you are going to have to accept less accuracy. Some kits are more accurate than others, so please check out that link Chopper posted above.
  14. It's not. Trust us. We've been through this. We set the sizes for a reason. First its not really up for dispute that the bottom of the bund lines up with the bottom of the pouches. I've got tons of images that show this is the case. The bund shown above is much too long. It looks like the way prop makers used to make the bunds years ago. We recommend that bunds run between 8-10 inches in height. It used to be that we told Scouts to make pouches to fit their size....and it was pure chaos. Most Scouts were running around with pouches the size of pizza boxes, because it's human nature to err on the side of too big. Last year we set the pouch size to 6x5x2 based on every source we could measure. That size looks good on any sized Scout, including our Captain of the Guard @Stroker who is 6 feet 5 inches tall. Anyone going for Level 2 will need pouches that size. For the extent it helps, I'm going to drop this soft parts essay I wrote here :
  15. They have got the zip in the back and the snap closure at the top so as far as we can tell those are spot on!
  16. Awesome! Let us know if you have any questions
  17. Whatever works, my dude!
  18. They are reversed. Not a big deal . Break them off and reglue them on the proper sides. Photos can be loaded directly to the forum as long as they aren't too big. We don't have a huge allotment of space for photos on our server because we are a non-profit, all-volunteer organization with an operating budget based on donations. We only have so much money to spend on bells and whistles. If you wish to upload photos, do what the rest of us do: either use Tapatalk when posting a picture or get a photo hosting site like Photobucket, imgur or flickr. I use Dropbox. And finally, dude, I've read quite a few of your comments on here about the RS Scout and you really come across as defensive and a bit hostile. No one is going to be perfect out of the gate and the fact that RS is on here quite regularly getting feedback and implementing it into their product tells me they are well aware of that fact. So why aren't you? We are all trying to reach a good end here. I've chatted with Rob quite a bit and we both love this costume and want to get to the best possible result. This is a process and it does not happen overnight. Are some people going to have to rework their soft goods after receiving them? Yes. But that would be true no matter who the maker was. I'm really excited to get some screen lineage armor out there. The Scout has had some quite frankly below par choices in the past, but in recent years the prop makers have gotten better and more screen accurate. The issues I'm seeing here are with the soft goods, not the armor. We'll get there, it's just going to take some time. I'm grateful to all our members who are providing constructive feedback on this Scout and I'm grateful to RS for being open to it. That's the way forward.
  19. The answer to both questions is no As a Detachment, our CRL is for the best representation of the costume. We don't allow for every costume mishap that shows up in a split second screen shot . Most of the problems I'm seeing with the costume are the soft goods. The codpiece arch is a bit too severe. And the bund goes on way too far past the pouches. It should be about two inches shorter than it is. By our estimates, the bund should measure from top to bottom between 8-10 inches. That one looks to be in the neighborhood of 12-14. But I will say that once it's on with all the armor it looks fairly good, just a bit too billowy because of the extra material. The thigh strap is tricky as It needs to fit the wearer's thigh without pulling too hard on the leg and at the same time, not be so loose that it droops. That's a tricky detail to try to mass produce. And I've never seen any evidence that the thigh straps go under the patch. Or at least can be seen under the patch. That could be because the leather used on the film scouts was thicker than the suede on display here. And let me add once again -- no costume is approvable off the shelf. Everything must be tailored to the particular costumer.
  20. Okay folks I have signed us up for Friday 11:30am photo on the stairs https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1zLoaEPL4wbcUFPZw-Ae4l2qRqtr1OWwF35lnMJ02Hpk/edit#gid=42641162 We can try to get one at the bunker too, but I don't want to exclude anyone (like myself) who may not have a ticket for the con that day. Sigh....why did they have to pick Friday?
  21. Yeah ive heard that and it's definitely a possibility. But considering we have the White Kashyyyk there's precedent for us having characters only from Disneyland!
  22. @BrinkHouse is a tall dude and he 3D printed his Shore armor. It's possible.
  23. Mouse gotta make that cheese....
  24. Agreed that stuff bugs me too. And I know Disney needs to sell toys and all, but doesn't it make sense that the First Order would be using a lot of Army Surplus stuff -- they should have old Stormtrooper and Scout uniforms in their ranks. I'm not a big fan of the idea that every film needs an entirely different set of troopers
