just making sure. thoughts on this material
bwattsup replied to zarintyr's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout WIP
You might want to post this in the correct area Jeff if your looking for additional advice on boot material. This area is really for completed costume appraisals. As I told you previously, that looks exactly like what I bought from my local state side fabric shop. As long as it actually feels like vinyl, I'd buy it. You can always test that swatch out by heating it, and seeing if it'll stretch as well. -
As long as you don't have any zipper showing Patrick, It's not going to hurt to remove the snap. You can always add velcro to that area to keep it closed. Plus, once you add in the mandarin collar, it should help keep it further closed.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I will never forget seeing my daughter react towards me, as she did to others when I took her to Celebration. Wait til you do your first troop. It's an amazing experience delivering smiles. -

Yeah, 2" is going to be difficult to bridge regardless. I wish I knew a way to make it better, You feel excited to put the whole thing on? I know I was jacked the first time, and the second time, and the third time..... -
SC is considered the smallest Cari. There's a great thread pinned in the helmet section with lots of pics. Take a look through it. It might help in your decision. Smaller head size is good in searching for helmets. You pretty much have pick of the litter. http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=10737

Looks good Jim! The soft parts came out great. I know how exciting it is to don the armor for the first time. I'm curious about a couple of things. How much of a gap do you have between the chest and back armor at the shoulders? If you can decrease the size of your bridges, I'd recommend it. I know you have really broad shoulders, but you may want to try and bring up the bells on both sides. I also noticed the thigh elastic on your left side was drooping down a little. Is the elastic not tight, or did you forget to pull it up? It was so hard to get that right on both sides for me. Also, since you made the cod adjustable, do you have room enough to pull it up a little further in the front? The chevron should sit about mid way between bottom and belt. I ended up adjusting my pouches a little lower once I got approval. You might want to think about doing the same. All in all though, fantastic job all around. Congrats on finally hitting the finish line. It was a huge weight off my shoulders. Now comes the reward. Smiles...sweet smiles! -
before I cut.... what do you think????

Killing it Jim. Can't wait to see it completed. -
If memory serves me correctly Tim, I think I used a pick with a flat edge to slightly pry the bottom lip up. It actually came off pretty easy. The glue used was more like the kind from a hot glue gun. There were 2 spots, one on the bottom and one on the top. Once the plate was removed, I peeled off the rest of the glue with my fingers.

Its right over left Jim, and the velcro position doesn't matter. I did mine with the loop side facing out, and the hook facing in. That way, should there be any exposed, it's going to be the loop side of it. Check out this screen cap. Its the reverse of this since. They used reverse images a couple of times in ROTJ. This is one of those occasions. You can tell by the position of the rank stripes on the tank and the helmet. -
Thanks Howard! Got my first troop in today as well. Been a good week for me.

Got the official seal of approval today! I'm finally a Legion member!

Man, hats off to you Jim. I wish I could whip through a project as quickly as you. Bund looks great! -
That's honestly the best option. I'm thinking about doing the same some day. I truly wish I could find the kind of coveralls I use for work. They're a lightweight arc flash suit. Super comfortable, While I was looking for black coveralls, I did come across some short sleeve black inmate jumpsuits . If your willing to just make sleeves, that could be an option.
-
Unfortunately I haven't come across one Eric. I looked extremely hard before I ordered my Red Kaps, but couldn't find any in black. I even talked to a few uniform distributors in my area for something lightweight. If you happen to come across any, please let me know. I thought about dying some white coveralls black, but wasn't sure how well that would work. I'm kinda surprised you haven't made your own. I saw your vests/neck seals on TDH the other day. Fantastic job on those as well! And again, thanks for the help with my pouches.

In the "Getting Started" section of the forum, this thread is near the top. http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=8569 Some of the acronyms are in there (just gotta put it together), but some aren't. I'm going to send you a PM with some info, but I encourage you to expand upon that info with research. Rome wasn't built in a day.

Also Alek, the boots are easy enough to build on your own. There's a tutorial pinned at the top of the boot thread. As far as weapons, again, this is your choice. Do some research. I can't stress that point enough when starting a project like this. Research is the key!

All the people complaining about Rubies are right. Jeff only recommends Rubies because it's an officially licensed product. Don't buy a Rubies whatever you do, unless you're willing to put in a ton of work to make it look right. On that note, I'd highly recommend Studio Creations for armor. As far as the helmet, there are a lot of great one's available. Do some research and find which one is right for you. Each available helmet has their own pros and cons. It is arguably the most important piece of Biker Scout gear. I know that's what attracted me to become one in the first place.

Thanks little bro. Much love to ya

You're getting close. Hopefully you'll be able to knock the sewing out as rapidly as you've done everything else.
-
Thanks Jim! Can't wait to see you finish yours as well

Finally got a chance to take my submission pics today. Made my little girls day to see me in uniform. Hopefully my scout will pass inspection. I see a few things that need to be addressed, but hopefully I can work them out after the approval process.

Is this accurate? (video reference)
bwattsup replied to InfraFett's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Soft Parts
Yep, that's exactly what I mean Forrest. Heating the vinyl allows you to pull out the creases as you move along Cole. I suggest reading that part of the tutorial in the pinned thread. -

Oh...and another thing...Unicycle Scout Shoes?!?!? The Emperor would not be pleased to know he's taking on the role of Ringmaster in a clown show.
