Looking good brother. This is the exciting part as it all pulls together. Your flack vest actually looks like a good fit in the photo so I’m guessing that it’s lose in the back. If so, it’s a pretty easy fix. Chopper is spot on as always.

Not sure what the UKG requires for basic submission, but all that was required of me was front, left side, right side, and rear shots along with an action shot. My advisor also requestEd certain shots of helmet, boots, and tank top after the fact just to verify and check a couple of things. For your Lancer App, just check out some of the approved submissions and you‘lol get a sense right away of how to do your Photos for strap measurements and individual pieces, etc.. For my app, I just went through the CRL and posted photos in that order to verify specs. Pretty simple.

Awesome news Phil. Looks like you’ll be able to kit up soon. Really looking forward to seeing those photos. Keep up the great work.

Project: "Get back in the saddle" My Scout Trooper WIP
Aradun replied to Nathanzx10r's topic in Getting Started
Once again a heart felt welcome Nate! Really looking forward to following your progress on this build. Be sure to ask all and any questions as there’s a lot of knowledgeable and passionate scouts who are eager to help you succeed. So glad to hear you’re going for Lancer too! Keep in mind that most of what you buy from vendors will most likely need a little modification to be brought up to Lancer specs. Building to Lancer specs from the outset is definitely the way to go rather than having to change or update stuff later. Be sure to check out those WIPs that note Lancer in their title as they’ll have lots of tips and trick to help you get off to a great start. -
Dude, you can definitely do a Scout! We have Scouts taller than you so your height is definitely good. Midsection and shoulder concerns - no problem. There’s some vendors that make larger scaled armor so it should fit you fine proportionally. I think WTF’s Armor is a bit larger scale. You can check out the armor comparison thread to get a sense of size and fit. You’ll see a couple of broad shouldered scouts in the reference photos too. http://forum.501stpathfinders.com/index.php?/topic/17774-the-ultimate-armor-comparison-thread/ I’m sure others here will pop in with suggestions as well.

Great question. No. The ribbed neck seal is not part of the CRL for the ROTJ Scout. Check out the CRL here for specifics on what’s needed to meet basic requirements: https://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:TB_Scout_trooper This will be your go to reference throughout your build.

Thanks! I’m just standing on the shoulders of others. Glad I’m able to help you like so many others helped and inspired me.

That’s the spirit. And good choice. Sandtroopers were notoriously better shots (at least with Jawas). 🤣🤣

Whaaat? You’ve gone shiny white? Noooo! Just kidding brother. Gotta love those shiny whites, that’s iconic Star Wars right there in your photos. Great work as usual Joe. Looks incredible and what a productive time filler too. Nice job. PS. Glad to see that scout bucket sitting on your sinister side LOL.

Any chance you can post some pics so we can see what issues you’re experiencing. It might just entail a simple workaround rather than new clips, but if not, you can try these: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07MR3CQCC/?coliid=I9C80S7S166H1&colid=17ZNF8WW4QACN&psc=1

Welcome back Nate! Glad to hear you’re jumping back into this as a Scout. Looking forward to seeing your build. We’re here to help when you need us.

Awesome!!! I know it’s been said before, but it’s the members of this detachment and how they spur each other on to build the best costume they can that makes this detachment so great. At the risk of sounding like an academy award acceptance speech, I want to thank everyone for all the encouragement, support, and positive, constructive feedback I received along the way. Couldn’t have made it with out you, and all the scouts whose WIPs and tutorials inspired and helped me along the way. Once my wallet has recouped, it’ll be on to another Pathfinder build for sure. Rumor has it that Mickey has a dual badge for those who attain Vanguard / Lancer that he’s itchin to use [emoji6]. I want in 😁. Thanks again everyone!

Man that looks good Eric! Especially the chest armor. Nice detailing. Don’t stress over it. It’s coming along great! When you’re ready to move onto the soft parts, be sure to take your time. Fabric isn’t as forgiving as shiny plastic. Go slow and layer your weathering. You can always add to go darker but it’s tough to get it lighter once it’s applied to fabric.

Round Two... Knee Armor Rivets changed out to 1/8” Holster Rivets changed out to 1/8” Tank rivet repositioned and replaced with 1/8” rivet. Hook & loop added to inside of boot and undersuit to add support to existing calve strap in order to address boot droop. If there’s anything I missed let me know and thanks again for helping to get things perfect! -
Like Pete said, no need for apologies. I hope all of our excitement over your progress didn’t put too much pressure on you. With your keen attention to detail and background, I get why you want it to be just right, so if redoing everything is what needs to be done in your books then go for it. The ultimate goal is that you’re happy with the end result. You’ve taught me personally a great deal about weathering that will be very helpful in future builds and I can’t thank you enough for that Christina.

The Mandalorian: Biker Scout WIP
Aradun replied to bobafett4ever's topic in Scout Trooper: "The Mandalorian" WIP
You should be fine with a single rivet in the bottom hole because that hole is roughly in the center of the clip. Most variants of this clip have just a single hole. -
Good call on the Tasset Mickey. A fauld tends to be more skirt like. Though I think the ST could also be considered a Tasset all be it shorter in length than the MT. Looking forward to this CRL as I really like the look of he MT and it’s a contender for my next build.

Okay so I’ve submitted my kit to the Lancer review team. You can see my submission here: http://forum.501stpathfinders.com/index.php?/topic/21728-tb-60446-lancer-deployment-request/ Following feedback, I’ve swapped out the 5/16” rivets in the knee armor and holster for 1/8” rivets. It’s all about screen accuracy right? New 1/8” rivets in place. You can see how the existing rivet was oversized. New rivets installed. So for those of you RS kit owners ( BrewMongrel , Hawk , iceknyght ) who have commented on my build, changing out the knee rivets is another change you’ll need to make IF you plan to pursue Level 2 certification with the detachment. You’ll be fine for basic approval. Another possible change may involve relocating the lower rivet on your tank. RS’ placement of the bottom rivet for my tank was fine for basic approval, but needed to be shifted up higher to meet Lancer specs. It could have been an anomaly with whom ever built my kit, or it could be standard assembly procedures for their builds. In either case I wanted to call it to your attention so you can check it’s location. There was enough 1/2” strap for me to stretch it to fit the new rivet placement, but I had to pull it free from where it had been glued to the inside of the tank. I used some Green Stuff to fill the hole (I only had gray abs on hand, so making an abs slurry to fill the hole wasn’t in the cards for me.). The Green Stuff has a way longer work time compared to body filler (not that it’s needed in this case), but I find it less messy and easy to clean than body filler, which is why I used it. The down side is it takes waaay longer to set so I have to hold off of sanding and painting until tomorrow. I used 5/16” rivets for my holster to keep everything in uniform with what RS used. Shoulda went with my gut and checked in with an armorer first to confirm that it wouldn’t be an issue. I know 1/8” has been recommended in various threads and heck I even recommended them myself to others. Lesson learned. Follow your gut and ask your questions. When I removed the holster, I noticed cracking spanning out from the rivet to the edge of the holster. All four corners had it and the top rear was the worst. This is common if backing washers aren’t used but I did use them on all four rivets so not sure why it was stressed. To remedy this I grabbed some 60mm gray abs (would have preferred white, but as noted it was all I had on hand), traced the corners out, cut and filed to shape and then used CA glue to attach to the holster in order to reenforce the corners. Letting that cure for a day before reattaching to the boot. I’ll hand paint the edges white so it blends in and is less noticeable. Last thing I need to address is the dreaded boot droop. I have an elastic strap sewn into the boot already and even added additional Velcro to it so I could get it tighter, but alas it’s still sagging a tad under the weight of the hold out blaster. Was talking with a soon-to-be fellow scout from my detachment at a troop yesterday, and while I was thinking of inserting a snap on the boot and the undersuit leg, we came to the consensus that hook and loop might be more secure and a bit more forgiving with regard to adjustment if enough is used. So that’s what I’m going to tackle next.

Thanks Pete. The fixes are easy peasy. I’ll get on it tomorrow and hopefully repost by the end of the day. I’ll be sure to hit you guys up if I have any questions or run into anything unexpected. -
I don’t see anything glaring, so long as all the little details (strap sizes, rivets, etc.) are to spec you should be good. You’ve done an excellent job making adjustments and improvements along the way. My only advice for your submission is to take time kitting up for your photos. Remember your submission is mostly visual so you want to take time to try and get everything set perfect the first time. Be sure to read the following to avoid common mistakes in applications: http://forum.501stpathfinders.com/index.php?/topic/20150-lancer-deployment-request-rev-2019/ If possible have someone help you with the photos so you can make sure that your biceps, forearms, etc. are positioned just right. Check your photos as you take them and then retake if you see something that needs adjusting. Looking at your photos, your left knee is positioned slightly lower than your right, and it looks like you can pull your chest armor down in the front which will raise your back armor. Looking at your side profile, your shoulder connection is rotated more to the back. Aim to have it sitting more on top of your shoulders will help position the front and back armor pieces. Like I said, these are just kit up tips. Everything else looks good to my eyes, but you might want to check in with an armorer to make sure. These guys have a far more discriminating eye. Great job all in all brother! Looking forward to seeing that lancer app.

Thanks Pete and Team! I was like a little kid on Christmas Eve this past week waiting to hear back from you all. There’s like 43 views on my app and I think 40 of them are me LOL. Had my first troop today so hearing back from you today is the icing on the cake. It’s been a great scout day! Thanks for the accolades too! I’ve really come to love this costume and my experience with the detachment. “Best Detachment in the 501st” is 100% true in my books! No one’s blowing smoke when they make that claim here. Onto the recommendations... I actually have an elastic strap inside the boot to help with the dreaded boot droop. Clearly it’s not enough to do the job. I was talking to one of the guys in my garrison during a troop today and I think I might add a little Hook and Loop on the inside of the boot and undersuit to keep it up. Easy fix. Some questions regarding the rivets. 1. First, thanks for the photo comparison of the tank. I can see clearly that the rivet needs to be moved and to where. My questions for this one are what size rivet should I use and what’s the best way to cover up the former hole. I don’t have any extra white abs. I’m thinking a little Green Stuff would suffice with a dab of white paint, but want to check first. 2. The rivet size for the tank brings me to my second question. Are the rivets used in the knees and holster deal breakers for Lancer, that is, must they be replaced for approval? I’ve seen the 1/8” rivet recommendation in WIP discussions, but no specific size is noted in the CRL for basic or level 2 cert. I didn’t go with 1/8” for the holster only because RS used rivets with 5/16” heads on the entire kit and I wanted the holster to match. If they have to be changed out then I’m all over it and will get it done for sure, but it might be good to update the language in the CRL so that the desired 1/8” rivet is specified under the lancer specs. Currently it just specifies that they have to be silver in color under lancer specs. -
Wow James! What a difference from your first kit up. All those little micro adjustments you’ve made have really tightened up your Scout. You look great brother! Im going to throw out a little tip that I think came to me by way of Chopper. It’ll help tighten up issues with your belt especially when trooping. Place a little hook (Velcro) on the inside of front of your belt and then attach loop (Velcro) to your Cod piece. That will keep your belt from sliding down and shifting on you. I’ve posted photos from my build so you can see where I placed it. I also added a little tab on the back of my CB with hook on one side and loop on the other that gets sandwiched between the hook and loop on the belt where it fastens in the back. That keeps the back of the belt secure and in place especially with the weight of the TD on it. No sag at all. This is nothing that needs to be remedied now, but it’s worth considering, especially for trooping. I did find it most helpful when taking photos for my Lancer app. as it helped keep everything nice and tight during the photos. Keep up the awesome work. Looking forward to seeing you Lancer app soon.
