It makes a big difference in my humble opinion, boss! The one piece cod/bund doesn't move the same way as the film scouts, and thus we get crumpled cod, camel toe, g-strings, diapers, thongs, and other weird behaviors. I am one of the folks that have separated them and I think it's a lot better. Yes the bund should be shorter. The codpiece on the original scouts actually attached to the vest, under the bund. Mine is velcroed to my undersuit. It's a lot more comfortable too! Since there's not as much yanking and pulling the old scout jewels don't get as roughed up!

Not sure what size you wear, but I found these scout gloves and I preferred them to SA: http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Biker-Scout-Gloves/dp/B00GVLN2P2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1423949928&sr=8-2&keywords=scout+gloves+wampa+wear

Congrats! Hope to be right behind you -
If you're not going Lancer, then get faux suede.

You dont have to weather your scout, but if you do, the weathering just has to not go overboard. I didn't weather my scout, but I've picked up enough dirt, grime, dings and scratches just from trooping that I havent really needed to!

Their pulls are very rough. But they clean up pretty nice.

Shoulder bell strapping
BikerScout007 replied to BikerScout007's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
I have the 1 1/2 going straight across from the bottom of the bell. Probably going to change it to look more like the screen scout! -
One of the next things I want to tackle is getting a more screen-accurate shoulder bell. My current SC one is a little too long and not cut quite right. Right now I'm using 1 1/2 inch (closest American size to 35mm) elastic around the bottom of the bell to secure it to my arm, but looking at the Costumes book (or as it is called in my home, the Bible), that doesn't seem quite right. This took a lot of squinting and playing with the contrast, but it appears the elastic is thinner, maybe only an inch, and comes down at an angle from the center of the bell to wrap around the arm. The MOM exhibit also had similar strapping. Anyway, food for thought!

My attempt at a more accurate codpiece
BikerScout007 replied to BikerScout007's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout HQ
It's a little easier to tell with the armor on, but I can now wear my belt at a more natural height, since I didn't have to push it down low to mask how short the codpiece is. I will probably take an inch or two off the bottom of the cod so it doesn't wrap under too much -

My attempt at a more accurate codpiece
BikerScout007 replied to BikerScout007's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout HQ
As it is now, the belt come covers the bottom of the bund. Obviously I'm working with a bund that is too long because it was designed with the old style codpiece in mind. I'll probably replace it at some point but for now it looks good once the gear is all on. Way better than it did before. And at least now I can wear the belt above my hips. The other thing I wanted was for the codpiece to fit looser. If you look at the film, the cods were not really contoured to the trooper's body. These four dudes are just standing around and none of their codpieces are all that tight -
Inspired by the Costumes book as well as Gino's life sized-scout, I lopped the codpiece off Marcel's cummerbund and had my seamstress (aka Mom) create a separate piece that would go under the bund and attach to the flight suit.

Does anyone attach their pouches to their armor?
BikerScout007 replied to Bobik96's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout HQ
This poor guy's pouches are definitely attached to his bund. But he let Princess Leia knock him out with a stick so I wouldn't take him too seriously.... -
