  1. Lancer spec calls for 1.5" wide cotton strapping. I simply elongated the holes in the belt for the straps with a Dremel. You can check out my build thread here. http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=9781&st=40
  2. That would be an easy fix with a heat sealing iron.
  3. I did. i will post a tutorial soon.
  4. Coming along. Needs some onbvious straightening and alignment for the pouches, chest etc. You might want to trim and round the corners of the shoulders, check out my build thread for pics. You might want to consider a bigger helmet though, the current one looks a bit too small for you.
  5. Bit busy now as baby is due any day, but will talk to my friend who might be able to make a few sets.
  6. Add some thermal detonator clips to the hoses. I did a how to for some screen accurate ones here. http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=9889
  7. Coming along nicely!
  8. Looking great! The shallow cuts look way better!
  9. Should be fine but you might need to paint or weather the edge of the soles to hide the 2 tone look as the originals were one color.
  10. You could also put some foam and velcro between the top strap and the inside of the dome. The bolts at the temples prevent it from moving left to right but the helmet can still rotate on them. Something to join the geadband and the upper lid will keep it solid.
  11. Laces in. Way more support for walking etc. Instead of tying a knot, I use a slide lock / barrel lock like snowboard boots.
  12. Would be awesome if we could get some feedback going before someone does a run of gloves. I have been modifying my SA gloves, and I feel there could be some easy improvements: - the gloves are too wide, the real Esprit gloves aren't as tapered and are slightly more fitted - the padding is too thick, they are like oven mitts! Slim down the foam liner or make it some kind of fabric - no real need for the nylon glove covers (if that adds to the cost)
  13. Thanks Patrik. The build is going slower than I wanted too, but lots of baby things to prep for! I've decided not to try and go for Lancer with my SC helmet, there's just too many modifications required and I'd rather wait for a Lonewolf helmet or the like to become available and spend the time on that. I just need to finish my pouches and boots and sew the riding patch on, and my basic scout will be complete. Lancer will have to wait til later.
  14. Sorry for the lack of replies, been busy with work and my wife and I are expecting a baby in a month or so. I finished the riding patch (not sewn yet, and making a tutorial) and the butt flap. For the butt flap, I realized my flight suit had belt loops. So I used snaps on the top of the flap and snapped it to an elastic belt, threading it through the belt loops. Makes the butt flap removable for easier suit washing, etc. I simply measured out a rectangular shape, the width of my hips the length just under the butt cheeks if it was to "hang". I left extra material to sew a folded edge for a cleaner look. It's not shown, but I also sewed in a thin layer of black vinyl naughahide (fake leather) to thicken the suede slightly (cheaper than using 2 layers of suede!) Finished butt flap. Riding patch coming soon!
  15. Very cool!
  16. Thats strange. Its in the gallery, upper right button on the second page of screen captures. Take off, eh!
  17. Right over left I believe. http://www.bikerscout.net/forum/uploads/1144978010/med_gallery_1_3_162760.jpg
  18. I think the issues with the 501st, FISD etc. and the "elitist" comments need to be taken in stride. There's a difference between being detailed / accurate and elitist. There's plenty of detailed builders on various forums, but its when the comments go too far especially to new members wanting to join that make certain people elitist, creating a negative experience. You're absolutely right, there's no requirement to go for Lancer. But if there's even a new Biker Scout joining with minimum requirements, why not point them to accurate measurements from the get go so they aren't steered wrong? The worst is when someone cuts or drills into their armor to mount something. Would it pass 501st? Possibly. Would it be easy for them to fix if they wanted to upgrade later or sell it? No. I'm glad with every costume or prop I have built, I have always tried to do it in a modular way, that allows some kind of upgrade later should I want it. For my first TK, I used EIB Expert Infantry specs for the minimum CRL, then applied for EIB and passed easily because my build thread was interactive and the community could provide feedback. That's why communication between all parties is so important. Back on track, I agree with the feedback so far - perhaps either belt closure is fine as long as it's not visible. And the under arm strap could have a slightly narrower than 2" width. Let's keep the conversation going!
  19. Yes, thats what I would like to discuss. Should the specs be changed to a velcro overlap closure at the back of the belt or should it stay as a buckle?
  20. Hi all, I've seen the question pop up here and there and thought we should start a topic about these questions / clarifications. According to the Lancer specs here, http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=1364 "- The TD box must be secured by one single black tie wrap as seen above, with side buckle to fasten belt hidden under the box out of sight attached with 50mm (2") white cotton or nylon belt secured each end of the belt with a sinlge rivit." In this photo, the belt is overlapped with Velcro. In this photo without the thermal detonator on (used for a book) you can see the belt overlaps but there is no buckle. I know that there are differences between the screen scout and often what was used for museum / LFL touring exhibit displays, but do we think there is enough info here to warrant a Lancer spec update? Also, the Lancer specs state that the chest to back elastic should be "Side under arm chest/back straps should 50mm (2") white webbing ( off white if using off white pouches/drop boxe straps) , but for trooping practicality 50mm white elastic will be accepted." According to this pic, the under arm chest strap is clearly narrower than the belt (which I think we agree is 2" wide) and similar but potentially slightly wider than the drop box straps. In this pic, we can also see that the under arm strap is slightly wider than the drop box straps. Here, we can see clearly the under arm strap is not as wide as the belt strap. So what do members think? Should we update the Lancer specs the belt overlap? What about the under arm strap? It looks narrower than the belt, and possibly the same or slightly wider width than the drop box straps, which are 1 1/2". Let's discuss!
  21. Thanks all, glad its helpful. Chef, feel free to copy and shar, thats what this kind of thing is for - helping other scouts. Dart, I agree, I think the chest to back under arm strap is narrower than 2". I'll start a separate topic about that. I'm happy to update the diagram as needed if specs change.
  22. Couldn't agree with you more. We ran into this a lot on FISD. A new member would join up and be fixated with getting "armor X" because it was a hot topic on the forum, or "the best" for them, or the cheapest etc. but they didn't always take into account their body type, fit, budget, skill etc. In fact, they could have often saved money or time by buying "armor Y" instead. It's always a good idea to leverage and gain the trust and help of the community. There are many skilled and talented people who have been staring at armor or helmets or whatever for a very long time, why not get their help or feedback by being PART of the community. I wished I was more open and asked even more questions 5 years ago on FISD, if I knew then what I know now, I would have made different decisions and saved a ton of money and time. Learn from the mistakes of others! Most people that went through the same process are often very inclined to help, guide and make recommendations to gear purchase or assembly. That's what a community is all about!
  23. I just whipped up this diagram, might help you and others out since the "elastic dimensions question" is often asked, and diagrams can better illustrate the requirements. Hope this helps! http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=10430
  24. This diagram should help illustrate the current Biker Scout Lancer spec guidelines for elastic and strapping webbing. The dimensions of the straps can also be used for a basic Biker Scout as well. The Lancer guidelines can be found here. http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=1364
  25. You might want to use the Lancer specs as a guide. Lots of info here! http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=1364
