Snout Painting - Guidance

you can clearcoat with a matt clear. Did you wash it first? Sometimes the mold release is stubborn. It should have come off with the sanding though. Kinda odd its chipping so easy. Also, you need to sand the top down a bit to have it fit the KS helmet..about 1/8th" or so. So you may have to touch up the top after that. -

Nice recovery!

When using the Aker amp, the slight echo from within the helmet makes you sound almost identical to the scouts in ROTJ. No voice mods are needed. The ICOMM has the "click" after when you speak, but the scouts didnt have that, so no need for the ICOMM for scouts

Yep Chef, exactly what i thought too

Time to paint the helmet
Darth Voorhees replied to shdwtrpr13's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
I would just do what you first said, if your comfortable painting it should work out excellent...its pretty much what i do. -
ya know...for someone who has tinted car windows in the past..i have no idea why this didnt occur to me. lol Usually it does have a clear part you peel off and some adhesive though that activates when its dampened. Have no idea if this stuff has that. But id give it a try Alex! Thanks Jim!

i found this one but its a little pricey and not sure of the exact size. http://www.motosport...UEL-MIRROR-LENS I remember finding one for around 10 bucks not all that long ago, but i cant seem to find it now :/
-
the only thing i could think of is to get a clear lense and hot glue it onto it on the edges...but that may allow air to get between the material and the lens...so other than that...i dont know You should be able to find motocross replacement lenses in mirror that would work much better id think.

NICE! glad i could help!

LW is bigger than KS. KS has a bit more width than most but is still short top to bottom in comparison to the screen used. LW is the closest to screen used. KS makes a nice helmet though if its assembled well. I suggest a kit and not getting it built by them. Their assembly is awful and needs to be redone. Ive redone 2 already for people! I wil actually have a "rebuilt" one for sale in the next couple of days. Got it from a garrison mate for helping him build his scout

yep, like Chef said, same at the pouches/cummerbund.....If you used a more heavy weight material for your bund/pouches, a white cotton duck canvas in a lightweight should suffice
-
If i recall correctly, that helmet is resin. If that's the case, you may be able to heat it with a heatgun, or hairdryer just enough to be able to bend it into place. I'd center it and do this on both sides to minimize the amount you'd have to bend it on each side. Second method id go with if that didnt work would be again to center it and just sand off a tad bit on each side. It looks like its only about 1/4" or less that its off, so sanding off 1/8" on each side shouldn't affect the integrity of the piece much. Third and final solution would be what you had previously mentioned, cutting it down the center trimming out a bit and reassembling the visor..but that should really be a last resort. Hope that helps!

For the future, orderless mineral spirit takes paint off ABS. You need a little elbow grease but it works pretty well and doesnt damage the plastic. I have used it to fix mess ups on stormie lids a few times
