Just received my TKID today! TB 60446. The numbers are in honor of my dad whose birthdate was 6/4/46. He died from a rare form of Thyroid cancer 3 yrs ago this month. He was a big Star Wars fan and always doing things for various charities. Apparently this apple didn’t fall far from the tree [emoji6]. He would have been like a little kid at Christmas seeing me in my Scout costume. I know he would have jumped at the chance to do his own build so he could join the Legion and troop with me. Now it’s on to Lancer! Thanks again one and all for all the support, help, and encouragement throughout this build!

Nice work Phil. Looks really good. Keep it up!

Hey Sabrina. I know your in Germany so I’m not sure what the availability is, but this is the boot most scouts use as the base for their scout boot. https://smile.amazon.com/Mens-Water-Resistant-Boots-Wheat/dp/B017THAVIM/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=kingshow+1366+boots+for+men&qid=1596464122&sprefix=kingshow+1366&sr=8-2

My GML approved my ROTJ Scout today! Woohoo! Now I’m just waiting on my TB# from the Legion to make everything official then it’s on to Lancer! Thanks to everyone who helped me along the way. Couldn’t have done it without ya’ll.

Waiting’s the worst. Hang tight brother. You’ll be kicking it into high gear soon enough. Looking forward to seeing you post up once your stuff has arrived.

They look good James. I know you’re getting your kit ready for your lancer app, so keep in mind that the CRL requires the boot soles to be one color. Check in with an armorer to see if your soles need to be painted to hide that dark band where the soles meet the uppers.

Phil reach out to [mention]tythetrooper [/mention] as he is has the complete TB kit from RWA and might be able to provide you with some insight on the issues your experiencing with your bucket.

Hey Phil. You don’t need to stop posting just because you have to get basic approval first before you can apply for Lancer. If you build your kit to Lancer specs now it will automatically meet basic approval and then you can use the same submission photos for your Lancer app once approved. That’s how I built my kit and many others who want to shoot for Lancer do the same. It’s easier to go for Lancer out of the box than to have to go back and change/update your build after the fact.

Looking good brother!

Thanks Stefan for setting the bar and congrats Melody!

Yep, definitely suede according to the item’s description.

Congrats James! Well done!

Still waiting to hear word Mark. Photos were submitted to my advisor two weeks ago, and she submitted them to the GML last Monday. You can be sure I’ll post as soon as I receive any word. [emoji1696]. I’m itching to get my lancer app in.

Nothing in your build catches my eye as being an issue for basic approval. But if your goal is to apply for Lancer status with the detachment once you get basic approval from your local garrison then you’ll need carve the souls of your boots so that they are screen accurate. Here are some reference photos of the original boots used as the base for the scout boot. Here’s a screen shot of the boot itself. The best thing to do now is to kit up again now that you’ve fine tuned some things and with the suggested adjustments take some new photos and post up. This will allow you to see how everything looks now. This will also allow an armorer to review the photos. They have a far more discriminating eye for detail than I. When you do kit up again, make sure to rotate your bicep armor forward a bit more. It should be in line and centered with your shoulder bell. Your forearm armor should sit just on top of the gauntlet portion of your glove and be centered on the V pattern sewn in your glove. Looking forward to see those new photos.

James, nice job reworking the cb! I’m sure you’re pleased. When you kit up again, be sure to look at the bottom of your belt in the mirror. You don’t want to see any of the cummerbund sticking out below your belt, especially in the back. The CRL states that the cummerbund “Extends from just under the chest armor down to the belt.” If you find that it does extend below your belt the easy fix is to drop your pouches down accordingly so that any extra length in the cb is hidden under your chest armor and not your belt. Keep up the great work. You’re tightening up your build nicely. You’ll took awesome when it comes time to submit your photos. [emoji41]

Looks good James. Much better. Love your work ethic. Keep in mind that the seam line where you the attached cod piece should be removed if you plan to go for Lancer down the line. Not sure if it will effect basic approval if it’s visible. Might want to check in with an armorer. Your kit looks really good. Nice job on putting things together. The following observations are not criticisms but some suggestions to help you tighten things up for when you kit up again for your submission photos next time. 1. Pull your cummerbund up about two inches. You want your chest armor to rest just above the pouches as in the photo above. Looking at your side profile, you don’t want to see any black between your chest/back armor strap and the top of the cb. Check out the side of the scout in the set photo above. Even with his arms raised no black is visible beneath the strap. 2. Pulling the cb up will also raise your belt too. Your want the belt to sit around your waist. 3. There’s a slight cod crunchy visible. To remedy try loosening your strap some or putting a stiffener in the bottom portion of your cod piece to prevent the cod cruchies. You’ll be amazed how these little adjustments will make a huge difference in your overall appearance. Keep up the great work! One last thing. I gotta ask...where’d you get that baby Yoda? It looks great!

Anytime Alex. Looking forward to seeing your WIP! -
Phil here’s what my greeblie looks like for comparison. As the CRL requires a “film accurate” t-bit greeblie, this is the final look you should be striving for. Should be an easy fix using Retrofire and Chopper’s suggestion above.

Awesome Joe. Thanks for doing this. I actually took a good look at my snout piece today and it is secured to the RS bucket with nothing more than a Phillips screw. Took it off hoping that it might be hollow behind the aerator, but it appears that it is a solid resin cast piece so your tutorial will be helpful when I’m ready to tackle installation of my mic set. Thanks again!

I use the Tapatalk app for posting 95% of the time here, which I got on BikerScout007’s recommendation a while back, and it’s great. There is a limit to the number of photos you can upload using the free account each month, but the free account should suffice. If you are going to have picture intensive posts then for a $1 per month you can upgrade and get unlimited photo uploads if you find that you’re burning through your limit with the free account. Take the pic with your phone, and upload it right into your post. Easy peasy and you don’t have to worry about broken links, etc. Looking forward to seeing those pics soon. [emoji6]

Sad, but I’m not surprised that they are not around anymore. I love the weight and feel of the resin/rubber cast blasters and prefer them to 3D printed PLA, but 3D printing is making it difficult for resin/rubber prop makers to compete. Not only are 3D printed blasters cheaper, they also afford many the option of purchasing the files for way less so you can print it yourself. Your best bet is to post up on the legion forums with a want to buy post to see if someone’s willing to sell you an old hyperfirm or praetorian. If you do find someone who is still making them, post up because I’m sure there would be others, like myself, who would be interested.

Looks really great Phil. Nice clean edges. Spot on to my eyes. Re: photo limits. Yeah, I ran into that with my build at critical moments with heavy image posts. For a buck a month it’s worth subscribing so as not to have to worry about photo limits or having to wait until your monthly limit renews. It’s worth considering, and you can always cancel once you’re finished your WIP.

Da million dollar question....
Aradun replied to MAD1_TK45001's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Soft Parts
That is a great question. Just a couple of pros and cons off the top of my head. Purchasing Your Soft goods: Pros: convenience, don’t need to purchase tools, time saver, no messy workspaces Cons: cost might be a factor, may have to wait extended periods of time for commission to be complete and delivered, goods may need to be tailored, adjusted, or modified once received to better fit you or to comply with the CRL. Making your own soft goods: Pros: cheaper, sense of pride and accomplishment making it yourself, custom fit, no waiting for deliveries which means better planning of your building process Cons: may need to purchase tools, work space may be an issue, you’ll have to run around to source and purchase all of your materials Others I’m sure will chime in with additional insights. Having just completed my own build recently (photos submitted to my GML for approval today [emoji1696]), I highly encourage anyone to make their own soft goods. It can be done for less money, which is great if that’s an issue, and there are excellent tutorials on this site for the construction of every soft part. Not to mention a whole community here that lives and breaths this stuff and is eager to help others with their builds. If you don’t have a sewing machine, a simple investment of about $100 should be enough to grab something decent so you can hit the ground running. I, like many others here, never touched a sewing machine prior to building my scout, but the learning curve is fairly easy. I’ve seen builds where scouts are doing their WIPs at the kitchen of their one bedroom apartment, so you don’t need any high tech workspace or garage with all the fixings. Hope this helps.
