Yeah, I mean I'm definitely sympathetic to trying to save costs, but buying a set of armor is pretty much your only practical option for a 501st approved scout.

You mentioned in your initial thread that you wanted to join the 501st? While I've seen some 3D printed designs of scout armor, I haven't seen any come up for approval yet. I believe Pathfinder, @MrPoopie has been working on some 3D designs for armor. You could talk to him if you're interested in going that way. As for Pep, I've never seen any work on this site using that method. There might be some additional info on sites like The RPF, but I don't believe any 501st members have been approved with Pep scout armor.

As Mickey said, the overall shape looks good. Here's where wearing the gear really helps -- it can totally change perspective when it's on you! Ok, so just eyeballing it, the thigh patches look maybe an inch, to an inch and a half too long. The butt flap is also slightly too long by maybe two inches. To help give you an idea, here's some photos of Gino's scout from celebration. Remember, small adjustments! You've got this! Note also the size of the flap in this screenshot from rotj:

Hey dude, welcome aboard. The drop boxes should ideally hang about 1" below the belt. To attach my boxes to the webbing, I put some velcro in my boxes and then attached the webbing to the velcro. This also lets you adjust the way the boxes hang.

Congrats vanguard!

Congrats dude! Great work!

This was the only place I used snaps in my build. I never pop them off, but it can help if your belt gets tangled in transport. Once snap on the closure on the left. One snap on the closure on the right.

Hey dude, for Lancer you will definitely need a one piece coverall. Have you looked into local tailors to try and get some quotes on alterations? You could also throw the coveralls on and show us some photos first, so we can provide some additional guidance.

There are a few helmet makers that accommodate folks with a larger dome -- you can PM Spike, who is a vendor on here, about one of his Altmann helmets. I know he does complete Shadow Scout as well as standard Biker Scout helmets, but I imagine you'd have to repaint 'em green if you wanted to use it for a swampy. KS is also one of the larger helmets. You can order theirs as a kit. SC helmets runs on the smaller size, so I wouldn't go that way in your particular case. As for armor, the hard parts are made so they fit a wide variety of body shapes. I have SC armor, which is very popular with a lot of scouts. You can also see how the armor types fit on various folks in the armor comparison thread here: http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?/topic/17774-the-ultimate-armor-comparison-thread/

I recommend option 4. It provides some flexibility and adjustment. That's what I did -- I also sewed a small tab of velcro behind the pouch, so they don't flop all over the place.

I believe dragon_a is referring to these clips, which are attached to the detonator tube: THECLIP.COM Metal Belt Clip 661BP - Black powder coated finish, perfect belt clip for pouches, holsters, and knife sheath. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B010EAQUEU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_iQ-tBbSXJD6JS You can see them attached to my det here:

Well...if you need volunteers to test it out, count me in.

The best snaps are from tandy leather. Nickel plated line 24 snaps. Not sure how available those are in the UK? Snaps are used mainly by the TK's. Less common with the scouts, but that certainly doesn't mean you can't use them. Where are you planning on using then on your scout?

Cummerbund shape and fabric
Chopper replied to rostwortrooper's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Soft Parts
Do you mean, do the vertical ribs need to be padded out? The CRL for level 1 says "Front of cummerbund has 6 vertical stitch lines, centered between the two fabric pouches, producing 5 raised ribs of equal width." In my read of the CRL, the word "raised" means that there should be at least some padding in the ribs, yes. You could ask your GML, since that will be the person clearing you for the detachment, but my interpretation is: yes padding. -
Yep yep. I agree with Merlin. Looks too short. His photos are a good reference. Thanks for posting them.

Lookin' pretty good. Some small comments -- Your flak vest sleeves are a bit long. Likely won't matter for basic, but they'll need to be shorter if you're interested in Lancer (up to you). Belt drop boxes should come up. Ideally they should only hang with a small space below the belt line, maybe an inch or an inch and a half. Try to pull your bund up in the back, so it doesn't show below the detonator. Your pouches should be about an inch from the L/R vertical seams . Try to move them outward a bit. They'll also hang straighter that way too. Your belt is drooping forward a bit. Might want to tighten it slightly if you can. All in all, you look really good. My comments are just small adjustments that can provide a big impact on your final look.

Cummerbund shape and fabric
Chopper replied to rostwortrooper's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Soft Parts
Hi Pawel, the bund shouldn't be off white, but from what I can see in the photo, the color is fine. Obviously you've noted that you'll need to fix the number of ribs. Pouches should be 6x5x2. Check this thread for detailed designs: http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=19200&hl=&fromsearch=1 I think that bund should be ok for basic clearance once you make the described alterations and adjustments. However, if you're going to put all threat work info it, you might want to think about a getting new bund with a separate cod. That way you'll be able to go Lancer if you so desire. -
