  1. Upgrading from my Redkap coveralls. Here’s where I’m at. I was able to identify the type of flight suit based on the thigh pockets from my previous post I was was able to purchase a new unused vintage fashion Avirex flightsuit in my size for $40. Not the signature olive green replica. However it’s an S-36. Which can still work. From what I gathered, the Avirex flightsuits were all very similar in design. Same basic or similar pockets in the chest and shins. The only real variable was the type of pockets on the thighs (which is the only one that’s really visible) So my plan is to still use the S-36 as the base and remove the pockets. Then replace them with pockets from the correct vintage Navy suit I just bought on eBay. $40 Probably wondering why not use the eBay flightsuit? Unfortunately, there were none that I could find on eBay or any surplus stores were my size. All were too small. Once its dyed, shouldn’t be noticeable and I can still identify my flightsuit as a modded vintage Avirex 😉 Also, it’s much lighter as it’s 100% cotton and not cotton/polyester like the redkap.
  2. Nothing like trial and error. Took the Star Wars OT costume book to the local military surplus store Using the book for comparison, I found the correct Navy flightsuit pattern with front thigh pockets Using Photoshop, I highlighted in red, definitely a match I almost missed that upper stitching
  3. Reading through the OT costume book again. It sounds like the author Brandon did his homework and had access to the originals. Not sure why he’d mention Avirex unless he saw a label. According to cockpitusa.com Avirex was created in 1975. 1980 - their catalog featured flight gear 1981 - they made flight suits and uniforms
  4. I bought one of the Avirex fashion line that I’m going to mod lower the pockets and should be good to go
  5. Sorry, what I meant was the K-1 Avirex fashion version like the one in the original post images was never issued
  6. From what I gathered (please anyone correct me if I’m wrong) Avirex was a manufacture for a fashion line. They re-produced coveralls and flight jackets much like how today we are into retro clothing. The fashion line was never actually issued therefore you will not find these in military surplus stores (I checked). Best bet is either online auctions or thrift stores. What makes the K-1 line perfect is the scouts 2 inch straps would go over the thighs zippers.
  7. Here’s the inner label
  8. This is the Avirex over the counter fashion jumpsuit modeled after the K-1 Flightsuit produced in the early 80’s I believe this is the same jumpsuit used for the scouts (just before it was dyed) can anyone confirm?
  9. Time for a change up. Adding another to the piece of the puzzle 😁 Gonna be busy at work this week, so hopefully I’ll have stuff to report next week. I know it’s not the correct Avirex fashion one, but one I can work with.
  10. Maybe just cut the zip tie and rotate the base?
  11. Can you get into basic without a tank? 😉 What about no stripes? By the way the image is reversed, you can tell by the barcode on the helmet so this is the correct side if stripes if they were on there
  12. Thanks for pointing out the stripes. Nice, I guess the more stripes there are, the more narrower, longer, closer they are together, and the higher up the tank. Never noticed that
  13. There does appear to be shoulder straps, but from a center point? As for what’s going on here....maybe it’s their Prototype armor?? The TD in the 360 video shows a different orientation of the greeblies As for the strips on the hump, here is an image from RS’ FB page
  14. Hi Rob! i used to watch you and terry discuss the scout trooper rundown a lot. Very informative
  15. The first is a pre-production pic with the side thigh armor The second is I believe Dickey also here’s one more with the controversial neck seal
  16. Here are images of armor with a curvature Maybe its it’s just a trimming anomaly during production. Tight schedule could result in non-consistent trimming
  17. Congrats! A high honor among the Emperors finest. 👍🏼
  18. In the bottom of each of the technical tabs, they mention 6-8 weeks.
  19. For anyone who missed out on the initial scout armor run, RS added the link to purchase the helmets, armor, or complete commissions https://www.rspropmasters.com/type/biker-scout/
  20. 100% agree. Somehow IB missed it and myself missed noting it during my review I have them installed correctly on my redkap, but the questioned myself when I didn’t see it on the IB suit. Here is is the image of the tan leather before the dye
  21. That’s correct. Like catfoodrob confirms, there is no suede. I did however get an image that I had the color filter an contras(like chopper did) on a screen shot to give a pretty good approximation on the patter. There’s a brief moment you see the inside of the leg when Han taps the scout on the shoulder and begins to chase after him.
  22. While I agree there should be a patch(no matter how small), I’m going to hold off installing one for now No point of ruining a good suit for something you can hardly see that much anyways. Unless someone stares behind me and looking between my thighs (yikes). With my luck, I’d add one on and a few days later, the correct patter emerges. Ha ha
  23. Awesome!! Wow that’s a small patch of suede. Compared to the 2” strapping, it looks almost 2-1/2 to 3 times the height. Would make it about 5” to 6” high and less than a quarter in diameter of the thigh Thanks Chooper!
  24. Is it at all possible that the suede we see is actually the front being pulled back? Look at how tight the straps are and look at the large amount of material folding upwards of the flightsuit.
