I used the Texas Steer boots from K-mart, and didn't really have an issue with the raised parts (the sides were what I was concerned with). I did several rounds of heating/stretching/pinning and was worried at first about being able to see the imprint underneath the vinyl, but it really doesn't stand out much. And as you troop, they'll crease and break in. I think it just adds to the "well-worn look" in the long run. I do wish I would've switched the laces with flat, sneaker style laces instead of the round boot type.

Biker scout pepakura helmet build
stasz replied to Murderink's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
I wasn't all that familiar with pep prior to seeing this thread. This is really incredible! Thanks for sharing the process. I'll be following. -
Congrats! Sharp looking Scout. This was a no-doubter.

Kropserkel VS Studio Creations

The Eternal Question KS bucket with SC armor here. I finally got to A/B these buckets in person last weekend. I always read that the SC is smaller, and I was surprised by how much smaller it actually is. They both look good, though. -

I would love to get a thread going that compares buckets to fitted baseball cap size. I asked that question myself and I see it fairly often. I haven't had the opportunity to try on a wide variety of buckets (just my KS, an SC, and an MLC - the"Big 3" I suppose) but they're always padded out for their owners so it's skewed. FWIW: I wear a 7 1/4 and my KS is lightly padded around the back and the inside top (approx 1" thick) and it feels great and sits nice. The SC was small on me, where my chin would sick way out underneath.

I sent Jeff at SC a picture of my rig after I was approved and I think he was a excited as I was. He's a good dude. Dawn, keep an eye on the trade forum. Chef does a really nice laser cut det clip. I finally had a chance to put mine on for the right look, but I still have the plastic SC clips (behind the det) for extra security.

BikerScoutDawn Pre-Clearance corrected
stasz replied to BikerScoutDawn's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout WIP
Congrats again, Dawn! I got pretty good at suiting myself up since I did most of my work after getting off 2nd shift and all my helpers were asleep I'll show you a couple of my maneuvers at the Whitecaps on Saturday. Looking forward to trooping with you. Well done! -
Saw you requesting Pathfinder Status. Congrats, Brother! This was an excellent WIP.

I just used mine for the first time tonight at the Children's Hospital Visit. I got a head worn mic and mini amp/speaker from Radio Shack for $28 out the door. It doesn't change your voice per sé, but the light distortion that occurrs naturally sounds just about right. A lot of troops use Aker brand, similar setup. I've been told the RS one I got can have feedback issues, but I didn't have a problem today. Popped it in my pouch and it worked great. I'm going to try the mp3 player with radio chatter one of these days. For the "psshht" - walkie talkie type noise, I just say "psshht"

Seriously. What's with the pockets and zippers? What are these motorcycle guys carrying with them? 186 packs of gum and a money clip?

I wanted to get the Speedway suit initially, but back last year all they had available was a 2X and the last few times I've checked it's been only 2X and listed in their Garage Sale section which makes me wonder if it's been discontinued (though I haven't checked recently). ...so I opted for Redkap, and learned me how to sew Like Mickey, I wouldn't necessarily say Gold Standard, but Go-To. It's a perfectly viable option, easily modded by even a ham-fisted novice like me.

Congrats, Pathfinder!

Apologies. I thought you were talking about the Biker flight suit
-
Looking sharp, Trooper! Your vest sleeves might be a tad long (mine are too actually - got fix that!). They should extend "just past" the shoulder bell. I know that's vague, but I'm gonna shoot for 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch. Should be an easy approval though. Nice work!
-
The approved flight suit must hit the minimum notes in the CRL. If you're finding variation, it's most likely from older costumes that have been grandfathered in as new evidence comes to light. We got a lot better look at the Scout via the Magic of Myth exhibit and HD screen caps from the blu-ray.

The belt confounded me as well. It was actually the last piece I worked on because I was nervous about it. Just take your time, and definitely reference Panda's thread. I have my thigh boxes attached to the straps with snaps and snap plates. Definitely over-engineered it. The straps can pass right through the boxes.

Looking good! I think just a little fine tuning of all the bits for your approval pictures. Great job!

This is officially a new Pathfinder costume. It's being called a Kashyyyk Trooper (white variant). Here's a link to some discussion on this awesome addition: http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=13533

Keep an eye on the trade forum. Chef does his laser cut clips every now and again. They're very nice.

I second Quinxx' post. SC is quality, ships fast, great communication. Send Jeff a picture when you're done Panda's build is the go to, and rightfully so. Are you getting your lid from SC as well?
-
Dang. That was Some good looking weathering

I wholly defer to Panda. 'twas just a thought.

I highly recommend building your boots using the tutorial (though Marcel's are fantastic). This was my first costume, and the boots were the first bit I tackled. I really enjoyed it, and they came out surprisingly well for just going for it. There's a few good tuts for vests and lots of threads on flight suit mod if you have sewing chops or are willing to learn the rudiments. I'm all about the snaps (or poppers) vs. velcro, though I haven't tried it for my boots. I have snap plates in my biceps, forearms and knees. It took some work to line up the female snap on my suit, but I'm really happy with the result. I have yet to magnetize my blaster/holster since I pretty much always hold it but it's on the to-do list. Check the weapon forum for blasters. Lots of good makers. A rivet gun is a must. Home depot. $10. Other than that, a utility knife and / or lexan scissors, a drill, sand paper, e6000 glue, patience and time. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the chin chip is required for basic or Lancer clearance. There's no definitive on screen shot of one. Good luck with your build!
