  1. I'm 5'9" and using SC. It fits my build nicely and it's pretty easy to work with in regards to sizing for us smaller scouts. Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  2. Tonight saw the completion of the knee armor. Using the 0.5" elastic I folded it over and sewed it to keep the ends from fraying and punched a hole in it using an awl. From there I used a 1/8" X 1/4" rivet with backing washer to attach it to the knee. The knees are completed and meet the Lancer requirements.
  3. Anytime Brother! I agree with Dart in that it looks a little bunched around the throat area but I can't see anything major that the GML would not approve.
  4. Hi Steve! Your pictures aren't showing up in the thread. I think you need to edit them and remove the img and /img tags that are first and last in the URL and then they should work. Look forward to seeing the pics!
  5. Your lid looks fantastic brother! Can't wait to see the armor come together for you! If you can't find the pins you might not want to wonder around your dwelling in bare feet. My mini-scout did the same and I stepped on one
  6. That's wonderful! I'm so happy for you!!....<<<pressing UNLIKE button!!!! >>> ...and change your Altmann's status too!
  7. The cuts look great. I cut the front of my boots but I would stick with the CRL requirements. You also might want to pull the upper grommets and get some flat sport laces. Pandatrooper used a speed lace on his build and that would make tightening your boot much easier. Just a thought. Can't wait to see some white on those boots!
  8. Thanks for the kind words Tim and hold the door open for me because I'm coming in right behind you Brother!
  9. Congrats on Lancer! Great achievement! Look forward to following in your footsteps.
  10. This one boggles me too. I'm 5'9" and I have a shorter length between the bottom of my front armor and my belt so my pouches look a bit too small to me but yet the fit the gap. I too want a shot at Lancer but I think I'm going to need to have my pouches redone before I put in my request.
  11. Last time I talked to Steve he mentioned that it was the temperature of Tatooine there in AU so he's probably getting back as us yanks in the cooler zones of the Galaxy . Look forward to seeing your lid!
  12. For those with SC armor if you are working on the knees, and going for Lancer, the one inch elastic that is shown in the instructions to be riveted to the top of the knee armor is incorrect. It should be 0.5" inch elastic per the CRL.
  13. Great work Ted! I never thought of using the snap method to attach the webbing. It's a great idea! Look forward to seeing more of your build.
  14. Tonight was more sewing with the forearm, bicept, and the start of the knee armor elastic. Tomorrow I plan on finishing the knees with the 0.5" elastic for Lancer and get that riveted in to the assembly and also get my T-straps together. Then the fun part of beginning the preliminary fitting with the soft armor to make sure everything looks perfect when I don it for my approval pics. There is still much to do: install the rare earth magnets into my TD and boot holster, finish the webbing, finish sanding the chest armor and polish to a high gloss, etc, To those tackling a build don't get frustrated. Just take it a piece at a time and work it until you are satisfied and move on to another piece. Always remember that BSN is a place where Scouts can find help from Scouts and ask questions or vent. If I've learned anything from this experience it that building armor (while fun most of the time) can be downright frustrating sometimes too. Just take it in stride and keep motoring on to those approval pics! Sorry for my soliloquy I just want to encourage you to git r done and don't sweat the small stuff
  15. Sweet! Did you replace the traps? I think mine is supposed to be here this week.
  16. Yeah, I did the same. I sewed hook onto my drop box webbing and stuck the loop into the insides of the drop boxes just underneath the slots. It makes it easier to adjust the height of the boxes. I didn't like the look of just stringing the webbing through both sides like it mentions in the SC instructions. Doing it that way kept it from sitting cleanly against my leg. Great work! Keep it up!
  17. I took a break from sanding the returns on the front and back armor and spent some time with my belt assembly. I finished sewing the Velcro on the belt and drop box webbing. The TD isn't hanging as nice as I would like so I think I 'm going to install a magnetic restraint centered on the belt and TD to try and keep it centered and straight. I really want the build to be as nice as I an make it. We're Pathfinders and we always have to look our best .
  18. No worries Scout! We all take it a step at a time. Just focus on one thing for the moment and take it to completion and move on to the next one. Right now I'm focusing on my returns and the pile of sandpaper to go through to get it as smooth as you mention in your build thread. We're all behind you brother so be encouraged and know that we're here for you when you need.
  19. That what I used. Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  20. Hey Chris, Have you had a chance to look through these threads? There might be some helpful info. Best to you! http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=14023&hl=cleaning&fromsearch=1 or http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=8254&st=0&p=65416&hl=cleaning&fromsearch=1entry65416
  21. Woohoo!!! What a great feeling it is when the armor arrives! Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  22. You need to find a balance between thight and too tight as the did will roll over and look like a thong. In think in going to go with a plastic insert like Pandatrooper and some other scouts have to avoid this problem. Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  23. I worked today on the back armor and now both sides are complete. I filed them down and started sanding with 110 grit so there is much more sanding to come. Here they are together. and another one side by side: It was scary but I'm happy with the outcome. It looks a lot worse right after you get done but after cleaning it up with the file and sandpaper it starts to look better. Patience is a must with this process mostly due to the curve in the armor. You just have to take it a little at a time and just keep moving.
  24. Ok so here's the results of the front armor returns. Love you know what you all think and don't be shy if they look like pucky Here's a wider shot. I used the method prescribed by a certain trooper of the Canadian ORS. It takes patience and a little practice to get the method down but once I got going it wasn't so bad. Most of my time was spent getting the temperature right on my iron which turns out to be almost max on the dial. I did both sides in a little over an hour. I don't think the angle came out as defined. I think it's about 30 degrees or so. I am happy with how the return edge makes the armor look much more "solid".
  25. Started sketching my lines for trimming the front and back armor and for the returns. I picked my heat sealing iron and I'm ready to give it a try. Need to watch PandaTrooper's tutorial a few more times and practice on some scrap before I give this a shot.
