Although I'm not a veteran yet, I would say it looks good, but you should put the pouches higher up, maybe bringing the flaps in under the chest.

Southscout MC armour build thread
Southscout replied to Southscout's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
Some small progress today as well: Back hump done. The rivet is just a fake I made and glued into a hole in the topper. Knees done as well with lancer spec rivet and elastic added. Managed to drill myself in the thumb when I did this... -
So, I've come to the part of sizing up the chest plate. I did a test fitting and marked it up with the help of my wife. How does it look? Ok to cut and go, or should it go up, down etc? If you need a shot from another angle then no problems.

Southscout MC armour build thread
Southscout replied to Southscout's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
Ok, so some updates are in order. Forearm armor, done: Holster, done: Biceps armor, done: I had to buy me some 1 inch elastic bands since MC didn't supply any. And for the biceps, the CRL for lancer says 35mm, but the cut in the plastic is 50mm, so I took that since it looked a lot better. Guess I'm going for "semi-lancer".. Stay tuned, more stuff coming tomorrow. -
Great, thanks! Then I finish the boot at least today

Putting in my question from the boot forum here as well: I'm checking the reference shots from the MOM exhibition and the holster is placed at a slight angle on the boot. What I can't make out is if the entire holster is placed at an angle, or it's just how the holster is done. I have placed the holster with magnets on my boot, should I rivet it like this, or just put it straight on in line with the top of the boot? -
Re-posting this since my post from yesterday mysteriously disappeared. I'm checking the reference shots from the MOM exhibition and the holster is placed at a slight angle on the boot. So at last I can start my own build thread since my package from MC turned up yesterday Everything was neatly packed up and looked perfect! The customary layout of every bit and piece, although I use a table just to be a bit unorthodox (yes, it's a Lego sail barge up in the top right corner, my son wanted in on all the excitement): The bucket, MLC unpainted. This is my biggest worry since I want it to look perfect... So after around 6 months of waiting, everything is finally here. But what the h-ll do I start with... Current plan is to start to sand a bit on the greeblies and some edge here and there on the armor, before painting the greeblies. I already have a question for all you super-TBs out there: the belt, do you heat-bend it in shape, or keep it stiff? While I wait for your answer I will be over at Pandatroopers build thread...

If you're ordering the helmet from MC then be prepared for a longer waiting time. The estimated 10-12 weeks will probably be nowhere near the actual time it takes. I think I've read that some people order directly from MLC and then it's a lot quicker, but you need to get the snout and decals from somewhere else. So it's a matter of weighing the pros and cons, quality vs time basically.

Hi all waking up an old issue here since I was down at the fabric store yesterday (picking up more straps and chilling with the old ladies who gave me strange looks...) and I took the opportunity to look at possible bund fabrics. Has anyone checked out beaver nylon? It looks shiny, it's quite tight woven, and it seems to crease alright but might risk getting very warm. Another option is a fabric called "heavy bridal satin" which is made of tight woven polyester, also tight woven and quite heavy. Just a couple of suggestions for anyone looking for a new shiny look (hey, why is it only the TKs that can be 'shiny'? ).

Looks great! If you can make a flap like that to hide the zipper, you will have no problem with the mudflap or the riding patches.

For a blu-ray capture, you can check these: http://i1241.photobucket.com/albums/gg513/Southscout1/TB/Stills/screenshot002.png http://i1241.photobucket.com/albums/gg513/Southscout1/TB/Stills/screenshot008.png No stitching is seen.

Snout painting - hints and tips needed
Southscout replied to Southscout's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
Ok, great to hear. I have a good black spray that's the same make as the white I plan to use. And thanks for the tip on the pin striping. I'll try to find some that I can cut out. It looks quite close to a half a circle so should be fairly easy to cut out and fit. -
Where's the original picture from? It looks like a screenshot, so maybe I can pull it off the blu-ray in that case.

Snout painting - hints and tips needed
Southscout replied to Southscout's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
Ok, thanks for all the help guys. Btw, is it satin black? I thought it was shiny black. -
Hi I still haven't recieved my hard parts, but I'm planning as much as I can in the meanwhile to be fully prepared once it arrives. So right now I'm thinking on how I should paint the snout since I ordered an unpainted helmet from MC (MLC v3). The snout piece itself is pretty clear, just primer and then black on the aerator, it's however the black surrounding this part that is causing me some confusion. The plan is to spray paint the entire face place white, then mask of the snout, put on a thin layer of white spray to seal the masking and avoid a bleed. I then plan to paint the black with Humbrol enamel #21, thinned 50:50 with white spirit and put on 3-4 layers until it looks good. What worries is that the white spirit will react with the spray paint, so I will maybe put on a varnish on top before applying the black. I am doing some paint tests right now to check this. Does this sound like a good plan? Or is there some other technique that I have missed? I have ruled out spray painting the snout since I'm afraid of getting black spray mist on the rest of the face plate. Or is that a better idea and just be completely anal with the masking?

I think it looks pretty good size wise. Take care with the elastic around the leg, it's easy to place too low on the thigh and it's a pain to move.

The buckles on the straps are way too low as well. And they should be brought in more to the center under the TD.

How to: make thermal detonator clips
Southscout replied to Pandatrooper's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
Nice! -
I have an OMP and I'm quite happy with it. It was very easy to remove the pockets. Just unstitch the outside stitches and then open up the legs and unstitch it there, and then sew them up again. The logo patches also came off without any problems. And it's very black Here's a picture I took while undoing the pockets, so they're hanging from the legs: http://s1241.photobucket.com/albums/gg513/Southscout1/?action=view¤t=DSC00116-1.jpg OMP has a new version of the suit but judging from pictures it looks quite similar.

Back of belt closure: fastex clip or velcro?
Southscout replied to Pandatrooper's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
Perfect shot! And with my Lonewolf-"inspired" belt clips it will look perfect! -
According to MC they have some extra help in these days. So hopefully we will all get happy well before Christmas

Back of belt closure: fastex clip or velcro?
Southscout replied to Pandatrooper's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
Can anyone with the velcro solution post a picture of it? I'm also considering to use velcro since I want to have some flexibility in how tight the belt sits. -
Ok, so back on topic I would like to hear all you "gurus" views on my point that the bund should end at the top of the belt, and it's only the groin flap that goes under the belt. I've been looking at a lot of pictures of bunds now and in general the groin flap seems to short, and correspondingly, the bund is too long. If I've only had my armor now I would gladly have tried to make a bund of my own, or a prototype of it just to see how it looks. Unfortunately it will take another 8-9 weeks for MC to finish it (estimation...).
