Scout sniper rifle MG42 version
4505Marcel replied to 4505Marcel's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Weapons
Il probably just do a small run, just to help with molding costs, making mine more affordable, if not im going to have one silly priced MG42 copy to troop with lol Il also cast up a scope in resin, I have my eye on one on Ebay now. -

NICE!!!! Still going to need to see pics from all sides though bud as before, looks good though. I would say maybe the vest sleeves are still a touch too long, as they are hiding your bicep armour a touch, you could probably loose 25mm off the bottoms what do you think? -
Your scout is buzzing along mate, I recon you could shorten the shoulders a little and also round off the corners a touch. Whoops school boy mirror error lol sorry

Cool looking forward to seeing them -
Decided to build a sniper rifle for my scout, going to do the battle front MG 42 style with the massive scope, which to me makes more sense than the DLT19 with the little scope. Ive brought a deactivated MG53 light machine gun, which is exactly the same as the MG42, just built after the war by yougoslavia. Plan is to make a mold from this one and reproduce them in either resin or rubber like the hyperfirms. Biggest issue with these is that the barrel is so open so is going to need to be packed out with clay. Im hoping to keep the side vents open but close off the top vents to allow the mold to be pulled off the gun. Not sure when I am going to be able to get round to this as I need to finish a couple of costumes first, but it will get done. Any way heres the pictures-

For lancer now we require real suede as that is what was used in the film, after all it is about accuracy. Faux suede is fine for 501st clearance though, but like you say if he could use a real thin pig suede on your suit that would be the way to go in my eyes.

I just used sticky automotive pin striping for mine and the rank stripes from a store over here called Halfords, not sure if you guys have this store but must have similar

new Lancer Knee armor strapping
4505Marcel replied to Ducman82's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
Did anyone manage to get some screen shots of the knee straps, so we can clear this up? I dont have the blue rays unfortunatley -
I just googled 35mm elastic and its available everywhere mate, 1.5" is closer to 40mm. Even if you have to import it its only going to be uber cheap as it doesnt weigh anything
-
Can you guys buy in metric as its 35mm and available all over the net?

replied to you hun

Yup helmet decal is wrong side and the corners of the shoulder bells could do with being rounded off a little bro, all the rest looks good bud

Very nice my man top job, whats left to do now you must be close? -
Looking good mate but as Chex has said you will need to change the white velcro on the vest if you want to go lancer at some point, even closed properly you will still see white showing from the side and the thigh straps defo want tightening, again for 501st clearance probably not needed depending on your GML though. All in all a great job though buddy

Good call Jeff, any chance you can resculpt the knees to add the return lip for the second knee strap to go onto? Shouldnt be too much work and you could get alot of sales from it bro pretty please

new Lancer Knee armor strapping
4505Marcel replied to Ducman82's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
We reviewed some film shots and there seemed to be more wider straps than thinner on the knee hence what we choose, I feel we have the top strap right, but can see the argumant for a slightly thinner lower strap, if you guys want to post some pictures I am more than happy to review with discussion with Andi. I dont agree they are both 3/4 though, not from what ive seen. -
Picture in the lancer crl of the knee is the best we could find showing placement of the top knee strap, the lower knee strap is wrong I will put a note on there now, we are short of pictures, as and when we get cleared lancers with these parts the pictures will be updated, no one to date has completed the fill lancer specs, ive done it all apart from the knee strap, which i need to get done asap. The other strsap sizes are what is required mate. Can you ask the question again about the helmet as im unsure of what you are asking bud? Not sure if you are refering to the ear vents, all that we ask is that there is no mesh in there, nose vent should be a sticker.

The vest doesnt necessary need to be seperate, as long as the over all look is right in armour. A seperate vest would be favourable in my eyes though, Ive seen the vest and cummerbund as a one aswell, but again seperate is best. Im not keen on the vest sleeve ribbing in two stages like that, I believe it to be more like a T shirt style. The patches are more or less right, thigh straps dont look 50mm wide though, ad ideally wants to be made out of real suede but not for 501st basic clearance.

Its a great set of armour I use it also, its very strong and durable, ideal for trooping
-
Armour looks great I recon like I did on my wifes you could loose some off the top of the bicep armour to give you a liitle gap between the shoulder and bicep, just sort of looks cleaner like that. p.s your pouches are the wrong way round Coming along nicely though

I personally use SC armour and love it, looking forward to seeing your pics as they come mate ENJOY!

It has nothing to do with what garrison people are from but what the costume needed, I myself put this to the legion for approval, yes I am from the UKG but this was agreed with our US brothers so its a joint decission to what the costume needed and had been missing for a long time. This is done now, theres is no going back the costume bottom line was missing some major parts and this has now been rectified. Im sorry but to say guys are not doing a scout now because they now need a vest and some flight suit patches is plain silly and a little overboard, its at minimal cost and for what a more accurate costume at the end. These details should have been put in the first place in my opinion and if they were we wouldnt even be having the discussion here now simples guys would just be getting on with it and enjoying the scout. This is no different here from any other costumes in the legion, the scout is still by far one of the most cheapest to do even with a flak vest and a patch. I dont know what trooppers are going to do if this little extra work is too much to take on board, as that then that eleminates pretty much 90% of the costumes in the legion cost/work wise. I estimated £80 for the changes and have been told by several people it can be done far cheaper than that, and possibly an extra 2 days max on the build if doing it yourself, Im sorry but that is not too much to ask. These changes are here to stay now, it has been agreed by the staff and high up in the legion as what the scout CRL needed, I realise in the short term im probably now going to be the bad guy Ive stuck my neck out for what I think is right for this costume in the future, and maybe it will even loose me votes in the future if thats the case i will take it on the chin, but further down the line we are going to forget this and have some pretty darn nice scouts out trooping for the 501st. Im going to lock this thread now as I feel we are chasing tails and going round in circles, Im happy the majority have said on here and via pm that this is a great move forward for the scout in general, and to those just starting out or have started their builds, Im so sorry you have a little more work to do, and a little extra money to find I really am but you costume will be so much better for it trust me.

Also there is other things to consider, pistols are optional for 501st due to laws in certain countries, but are needed for lancer. we also require real suede on a flight suit for lancer now, but dur to some not liking to use real skin on their suits its an option for 501st things like that, but Chef has basically covered evrything above
