I used ABS glue and a small amount of super glue gel to hold things better as the ABS stuff was setting[approx 24 hours for full effect]. If you are painting this helmet I would use a sanding block with 240 -600-1500 grit wet and dry sandpaper on the flat of the nose to get a sharper front edge, Painting the line will be easier if you do this simple step. I think the two top eye corners are slightly too square, the eye sides could be a bit more rounded rather than this straighter way. The right side[looking through it] can be even more cut out, check with some original helmets for the warped look. Don't use the KS decals or snout piece, any questions just shout.

I would try to stop myself improving all the wee things wrong with it. It is quite a collectable at the minute, better getting a helmet kit and making it look good instead.

Excellent work Gary, too nice to paint

I would advise you to cut a bit more off the ends of the plastic belt, both ends should be about 1.5" wide to the last belt box, and one central hole at each end for a silver rivet to hold the 2" white nylon belt onto it. It will be strong enough without adding any more rivets/bolts/screws. Only if you want to be accurate.

Pointed or Squared-off forearm pieces

I tried to modify my SC armour a bit, as it had no return edges it could be shaped quite well. Keep tinkering -
new Lancer Knee armor strapping
lonewolf replied to Ducman82's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
Knee elastics are both 3/4" black elastic top and bottom, the difficulty with this requirement is that the return edge is too thin on MC or not there at all on SC knee armour. I don't know an armour with adequate room for a rivet at the return edge. To rivet the top strap onto an inaccurate knee is as bad as not doing it. There may be an 1 3/4" strap at the middle of the knee [joined inside the kneeplate]as well to hold the knee armour up, tricky to see on the Blu Ray, so troopability is good if you add this strap. -
I have found a nice natural white canvas, it looks very similar to the screen used Scouts and doesn't need tea, dylon or any other extra hassle. I suspect the original material was a natural canvas/cotton material with a bit of overspray on it for a fast weathering effect. A much better way is to buy the canvas/duck cloth/twill material and if you think it is too brown/beige/dark then a couple of washes will lighten it up.At worst a little while in bleach will help. To keep saying white for clean scouts and white or off white for dirty scouts is not particularly accurate. I read the discussions and agreed with MC.Now we all have the Blu ray or have seen screen grabs we can always decide what we see for ourselves. Apparently tea is not a good idea for darkening down materials as the final result is too tricky to control. I have never tried it , only what I heard. Just trying to help future scouts get it right first time round.

Ok firstly I know they are NOT white. Beige can be termed many ways, light brown, cream , desert sand etc Off white can also be termed alongside beige. To avoid confusion for future Biker Scouts I would buy natural [unbleached]white canvas for the pouch material, hope this helps some of you.

Looks like a nice way to secure it easily to your belt. I am trying to get a decent clip method for my new build at the minute. I want something the same looking as the original method, unfortunately all the pics I have seen are not close enough.

7651 Scout - What do I need to for Lancer?
lonewolf replied to ChickMacGyver's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
First off, your kit looks great. Lancer is about every wee bit being as close as possible. My kit is way off the mark as well. Things I would change on your kit, Armour is not super accurate, back hump too small, TD vacformed greebs, boot holster wrong shape etc Drop box webbing is too long and not off white/beige chest and back connections need cut, bad angle at join, cloth connector piece too wide, and maybe should be off white/beige plastic belt too wide, needs cut down, three piece belt should be glued rather that riveted together vertical stitch lines on cummerbund too wide cummerbund too baggy at back, may be too wide and high slightly dirtied helmet needs a slightly dirtied armour to match side webbing at chest /back possibly not off white/beige and may not be in correct postition undersuit may be a bit baggy pouches should be off white/beige grey rectangle on chest is too light a grey and too large, even if the indent is too big grey helmet bolt is too small codpiece needs a bit more wadding to puff it out rather that a thin material, this will help it not bunch so much. Ok , none of this needs "fixing", your costume has obviously been well put together, your elastic strapping is more accurate than many lancers, you wear the cossy very well and I was being really really picky, any help please just ask. -
EFX to make a Biker Scout helmet from the original molds
lonewolf replied to lonewolf's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout HQ
Yes the rumours were out there for quite a while, I suspected it may be another Biker Scout pistol non show prop. I wonder if the replica helmets don't close properly, just like the originals Time to start putting a bit of money away guys. -
Good question Marcel I am thinking about even a cheap pair of slip on gutties, the existing sole can stay on and the new rubber accurate sole can be glued onto it. It won't need to be a pair of Timberland style boots at all. I will figure something out

Alex, the whole armour is very well trimmed, I just gave the edges a wee rub with some very fine wet and dry sandpaper, rounded the shoulders a little and the bicep corners a bit. It is such a nice kit, I wish I had opted for MC when I started out, but folks will often advise as to what they use. Even the instructions are good, I hate to say it but I only found out the drop box belt quick clips were just "show" and didnt actually function, I had to check this MC build idea and I quickly found two different pics to prove it. MonCal certainly has an eye for detail, he has always argued for the off white dropbox webbing and pouches, only now people are agreeing.

TD greeblie is from Don Jarr, not a cast from an original kit part but a fansculpt, cast in black resin. So I have started to stripe the tank, MC supply the six stripes and measurements as to where it should be stuck so this was very handy. The wee red stripe could have been just as easy until I had another look at the original costume[1000th time!] It appears the red paint/decal went around the complete edges of the round knob. So I had to find a longer piece of tape.
-
No Alex, things have been a bit hectic, but it will happen, I need new boots!
-
Yes Rob, I know the DJ greeb is "wrong" with the Blu Ray position but the screen grab seems to indicate the two split pieces go upright! I am beginning to think there were possibly two model kit parts, each a mirror image, maybe two halfs of a tank or something. Nice greeb btw! It is stuck on with velcro atm, I can change it as I find out more about it.

I have trooped with the SC armour for the last few years but I just had to upgrade to MC,

Thermal Detonator mounting issue
lonewolf replied to Ducman82's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
Old thread yes but the actual method is still unknown, SC version with the big quickclip is quite good but the actual Biker Scout TD bracket is seen hanging over the nylon belt. Alice clips are not accurate so what type of belt clip is the original? I have looked at ww2 belt clips, army belt holders etc, a phone belt clip was the closest I saw but still nothing the same. It appears a split type top at least, nothing showing below the belt so they are possibly quite short, 2" or less. If I find it I will post it up. -
Good question Terry, I don't know for sure but I think the front 2" elastic was stitched onto the codpiece, over the front, not under, and the back may have been velcroed to the cummebund in the centre. There are a few pics of the original so it is guesswork unfortunately.

Mr four stripes is the guy who trys to arrest Leia only to be battered first by Wicket then gets a nice whack from a big stick from Leia. A valid version, the existing stripe measurements are for general sizing, you don't have to change the size you have. He also has a slightly different horizontal line on the back hump, thcker in the middle. So he is a "Hero" style Biker Scout, for close up filming. Your choice. -
No I made my own helmet, this stuff is sturdy, SC seems a bit more flexible, possibly due to the lack of return edges but they are all a similar thckness of ABS, Kropserkel is the same. I fully understand your armour thickness question, especially coming from Stormtrooper land. My Stormy is 1.5mm PVC, flexible and strong. Biker Scout armour is thick no matter which kit you go for. Biker Scout is very comfortable, more vision and sitting down is easy, only problem is that I feel it is a bit warmer than the Stormtrooper cossy. If you want the most accurate armour go for the MC kit, a long wait unfortunately but worth it.

Looks good, there is a guy in the movie with four big stripes, we never see this version, nice. The rivet on the knees may have to wait on a decent armour maker to make a kneeplate with enough return edge to put a rivet into. We have another Pathfinder I believe. -
The best is MC, just got the kit today, wow. Thickest? no idea.
