Awesome, so got the bias tape on my flak vest, it doesn’t look raggedy anymore got the cumberbund and batting cut to length and then before attaching one end of the batting to the bund to roll out my machine gave up the ghost… so I’m currently stuck.
-
So can it be slightly larger then 9”? As it’d tuck under the vest. Have the bund material cut, just need to sew the edges and cut the felt now.
-
I have the bund material cut, I was dead set to finish the vest prior to the bund/cod… looking forward to finish the soft parts
-
Ok, so finally figured out the attaching part, still need the bias tape, but I believe the vest… is initially done. -> Done…or is it?
-
It’s been abit haven’t had much headway… minor issues on my helmet that need fixed (stupid pin-striping tape). So I decided to tackle my flak vest (Again, not raglan this time…for now) -> initial sleeve -> Batting setup After the batting was cut I gorilla glued it to each side of the sleeve after letting each side dry the listed time on to rows… -> first row problems… First row went down like nobodies business… next row decided to have issues… -> Yay sleeves! 12am rolled around when I finished the second sleeve which gave me a lot less grief then the first one. -> main body done Got the Velcro all setup on the back, went to Joanne’s today to get thread (I ran out of black while working on the closure) and forgot to get bias tape for the collar/bottom so now I’m trying to figure out the correct way to install the sleeves and “shrink” the arm hole abit. atleast the most monotonous part of the fabric build should be mostly done right…

Got it, should have the new tape for redone bridges by Tuesday
-
Ok, helmet is padded, picked up my flightsuit today after having its suede installed. Working on getting my vest set up next. Looking ahead to lancer I picked up the 1.5” cotton webbing for use on my belt, this is the same strapping that’s used on the chest armor on the sides right? -> heavy cotton webbing image I also picked up some 1” cotton for the shoulder bridge covers, is this the right stuff? -> 1” cotton for shoulder bridge
-
Awesome, I got my belt finished last night , 1” placement needs dialed in but that can wait till basic approval is complete (strapping is cake). Now it’s just all softgoods 🙄
-
So I know pasted seams are optional for lancer, and I *have* paste.. so what’s the SOP for it, just paste up the seam and then finely sand it off? (It’s an optional thing that I’m just curious about…)
-
Hahah that was some grime that got in with the E6000 when I was assembling the bucket if we’re looking at the same spot . I spent a lot of time with members of Scout Team Six getting this bucket completed
-
Ok, so she’s built, just need to install padding and figure how I’m going to do the chin cup. Need to figure out how to bring in the lower cheeks abit as that’s what’s keeping the visor kicked up. Installed Velcro at the chin to keep the bucket tight. -> ISO Pre-Lens -> Front -> Right -> Left
-
Ok, so latest finagling, there's some interruption between the faceplate and the wrap... if i push it back.. it'll work but left to its own accords.. its Flakey McFlakerson. So due to the ABS shim I have right below the Elevator bolts.. they interfere with the nuts, the supplied bolt/nut from SC has no issue though so its currently in use. -> Left ->Right ->Head-on
-
Ok, so abs is reinforced… I’m not drilling in, I’m using a punch to make that initial hole and then sanding to the right diameter…punch won’t get here till tomorrow so it’ll be a good relaxation from Jury Duty… ->Right ->Left
-
Ok so anxiety is taking over, right now I have holes in both the visor and faceplate that I’d line up when I install the visor, area is patched and I just need to reinforce with ABS before I drill into the helmet again using the center of the visor holes to bullseye my bolt holes in the actual dome. MTFBWM…
-
Ok so I’m the first to say I didn’t get the assignment. Totally didn’t think to trim the mask past the trim lines. Initial untrimmed visor -> L/R untrimmed -> L/R trimmed Filled in the holes from the initial install attempt. Next I gotta clamp it in place so I can redrill the bolt holes.
-
First build kit (My TIE was like 80% done) so chasing sink lines is new to me (remember the earbeans?) Anyway I'd need to shift the visor up, and possibly trim the lower part (i seriously need adult supervision for this) https://imgur.com/a/nOcE2ZJ it'd involve patching the holes drilled originally though which I need to do anyway. No trimming was done to the faceplate OR the visor prior to this.
-
Ok, spent some time with the bucket today… sanded the bucket holes open s’more. Mounted the visor and now I have a question. On the left side I have a gap between visor and faceplate… how damning is it? Will it clear basic? If I can clear basic I can pickup a new bucket down the road when going for lancer. -> My poor baby
-
Oh yeah, the dremel wasn’t used on the ear holes at all, used a drill to make an initial opening and then it was all xacto blade and files. Which after this yeah, it coulda gone much worse.
-
So lets see, things since last post. I mangled my helmet when drilling the visor holes, but I've been told by enough garrison mates that its fixable, yay!* So after freaking out at 11pm and polling my local scouts if it would be fixed and reaching out to SC I got some ABS to fix it, but my last build was a TIE, and my helmet was made already so I've never had to do this. So do I CA glue the ABS that Kurt sent me over to the inside and then CA the broke part down to the ABS and then seal it with ABS Slurry? -> My poor baby https://imgur.com/a/Qu3FTFr During the time for the rescue package to get here I figured I'd start working on the vest. Using a Raglan shirt I cut up the pattern and I think when I pinned it, it came out wonky... and I'm wondering if I shouldn't shore up the front and back and then connect the pattern for the sleeves to make sure every things right. -> Vest Pattern https://imgur.com/a/5DJbt2m * This is me being glad I don't have to buy a new helmet, but I'm also super intimidated on how I need to fix it.
-
@Chopperi think you caught me right in the edit, 20” unfolded (I had it down as folded originally) it hasn’t been my day build wise 😐
-
Ok, this is exactly what I was trying to figure out, so I had to bump my belt down when trying to figure things out since I was trying to do the math in my head on where it should hit . So Vest I should remove ~14" from the shirt for the pattern, and about ~2-2.5" off the sleeves. Cumberbund would just be torso width ~20" high when unfolded allowing for 1" Seam allowance on either side.
-
So donned everything I have (except knees and the drop boxes), put on the TIE flightsuit and got the future vest pattern. Question here. On the vest, how far past the chest armor does it go? 2-3” which is then covered by the cumberbund which is covered about 1” by the armor as well as 1” or so by the belt? I’m figuring edge of sleeves will be ~3.5” from current edge of these sleeves. -> Sleeves -> Vest
-
Plastidipped the rear helmet yesterday and before I went to bed started to enlarge the pilot holes with the 9/16 bit, needless to say some damage has occurred, but my local garrison guys reassure me that’s it’s fixable with ABS slurry so with that, I’m switching gears to soft goods while I work up the nerve to fix my helmet.

So for anyone that needs a template, since SC sent a green lens I made a template out of it https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gD9BSV0kkbjeExi233KCfMGVZuEUrh99/view?usp=drivesdk So besides trimming the beans and taking the suit in. I bought boots and vinyl to tackle that issue, and Tamiya paint to do the snout and the greeble after I sand it.
-
Ok, snout greeb orange peeled on the top/bottom flats… 😑 however beans seem to have come out pretty nice I think. -> Left -> Right
