1. Your stuff looks fantastic Christina. Great weathering. I’m looking forward to seeing your kit complete. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
2. Phil, If your interested you can check out my build thread where I detailed how to make a pattern for the patches. I used chalk on the undersuit to sketch out how I wanted them. The benefit is that you can wipe away the markings with a damp cloth and redo if needed. I also posted my undersuit with the chalk outline to get feedback before I created the actual pattern. I then used a brown paper bag overlaid on the undersuit to make the pattern. I have some measurements in the photos but I started with the link posted by Bootlegger to get my starting measurements and tweaked as needed for my fit. I will say that I needed to round the corners of the front patches afterwards as the straight corner was poking out from behind my cod ever so slightly. I’d recommend rounding that edge in your pattern. http://forum.501stpathfinders.com/index.php?/topic/21137-dennis-scout-wip-lancer/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
3. Hey Mike, I just want to echo Retrofire’s comments above. I’m just finishing up a ROTJ scout build that I started in January with no sewing experience and I’ve done my own cummerbund, cod, boots, undersuit and flak jacket using a $100 sewing machine. I’m quite please with the results. Once you get the knack of it, it really is super easy and will save you a lot of money in the long run as you put your build together. The other scouts, command team and armorers on this forum are awesome resources and always ready to chime in and lend a hand with someone’s build and questions. Your in good hands brother. Be sure to check out some of the WIPs as they are a great guide as you work on your own WIP. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
4. Congrats Marc! Well done. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

7. Pandatrooper and Chopper thanks guys! This was great sound advice and definitely helpful. Love the idea of letting the acrylic airbrushed paint weather naturally with scrapes and such from trooping. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
8. Would the airbrush paint be a risk of running if it was exposed to inclement weather, like say a light rain while trooping? Would you need to seal the airbrush paint afterwards because it’s water based, and if so what sealer would you use? I’ve been reading a lot lately on how mixing brands of rattle cans can cause some horrible effects to the paint requiring a complete redo. So, I’m just wondering if this is a concern when applying airbrush paint or a sealer overtop of the airbrush paint. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
9. Option 1 is the easier root imho. You’ll need an exacto knife with a chisel blade. I think I used a 1/4” chisel. Take a look at photos of the original sierras and then draw out your cut lines with pencil. That way if you need to adjust you simply erase and readjust. There’s a great tutorial here: Biker Scout Boots Tutorial http://forum.501stpathfinders.com/index.php?/topic/19708-biker-scout-boots-tutorial/ Cheesewhoopy used a regular exacto blade, but I found a chisel blade to be a bit more precise and easier to use.
10. I’m counting on it brother! Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
11. BBB day is scheduled for 6/22 according to UPS! Hopefully there won’t be any delays. Can’t wait! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
12. Sweet. I’ll have to look into the Pelican. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
13. Chopper I’m curious. The topper in the photos Tythetrooper posted looks a tad bit oversized compared to the reference photo you provided. Would that impact a lancer application? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
14. Definitely seam rip the outside leg. The inside leg has a heavy seam which would be a bear to seam rip and an even bigger bear to restitch. The outside seam is indeed a simple seam and a quick fix. As Chopper said, do the whole leg, that way you can tapper it to fit. You’ll need to open the leg up to do the patches anyway, so you might as well taper the legs in case you want to go for lancer in the future. As for the riding patches, I did mine in four pieces, two for each leg, front and back. I seamed the front and back patch making the seam 1/4”. Then I used that 1/4” of material to sew the seamed portion of the patch to the inside seam of the coverall. Once that was attached, it was fairly easy to run a stitch around the edge of the front and back of the patches to adhere it to the coverall. Hope that makes sense without visuals. Just make sure to attached the 2” elastic band as you stitch the patches, I forgot, and then seamed my legs. Once I realized after the fact, I had to seam rip a 2” slot in the patches in order to insert the elastic. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
15. Mark, you’ve got some great tips to work off of from everyone. I’m just going to throw my two cents in. Make sure the presser foot lift is down so that presser foot is engaged. When I first started sewing I would forget to do this and was pushing the fabric through manually rather than the presser foot doing the work. I wrecked 8 leather needles trying to stitch the Velcro on my mandarin collar before I realized it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
16. Here’s a great post on weathering if your interested. Not sure what vendor he used for his build, but the final product was great. 3D Printed E-22 + Post Processing Breakdown! https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink/topic?share_fid=2091901&share_tid=18727&share_pid=168538&url=http%3A%2F%2Fforum%2E501stpathfinders%2Ecom%2F&share_type=t&link_source=app Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
17. Video work is grueling when it comes to shooting and editing. “New videos?” I like the sound of that! Here’s hoping there’s a couple more in the near future. I have a few in mind that perhaps I’ll run by you and tackle myself once I get my Scout approved. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
18. Mickey, this is awesome! Thanks for doing this. Best lines... RE: Flak Vest & Cod Piece “We can’t all roll screen accurate.” And then later in regard to the Cod Piece “Ballers connect it to the vest.” My favorite though was the CB. “Shouldn’t be a tortilla that wraps around your entire body.” I chuckled at that one because I know that’s a big pet peeve for you. This will make a great resource. I’ve already bookmarked it and saved it to my scout reference material. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

21. Maybe Chopper can chime in here. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
22. Eric, did you apply the dog bones to the boot or did they come that way? It could be the angle of your photo tricking my eyes but they look like they are applied upside down. The bottom edge looks fairly straight and the top edge appears a bit more “u” shaped. The edge with the two stitch lines appear to point more towards the back of the boot when they should point more towards the sole. The pattern below shows the shape and orientation of the dog bone. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
23. Excellent choice and well deserved. Congrats Pete! Thanks for all you do for your fellow Pathfinders! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
24. LOL. My bad. I completely missed the remnant part. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
