I dipped my brush in the paint & brushed it on. No special tecnique, plain ole brushing on. Used about 4-5 coats. If you can't find the right color, you will have to mix 2 colors to get the shade you desire.

I need Help for my back hump armor
Chunk replied to SneakyMeatHead's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
Drill the rivit out & fill the hole with ABS sludge, bondo, window caulking ect, sand & paint. -
You can use any brush on acrylic paint. I bought mine at Walmart .99 in the arts & craft section.
-
Keep mine in my tub. Complete costume fits in a 35gl rollar tub from Lowes.
-
Used a coin to mark the & used a rotary tool on high to take down. Finished off with fine sandpaper.

You don't need a high end machine to sew costumes. Mine cost under $100 & i've made over 100 scout suits. You'd be surprised at what s good cleaning would do. My mom had her machine for over 30yrs with never cleaning it. I opened it up, used the air compressor, & oiled everything. Worked like brand new up until the day she knocked it off the counter. I bought her a new one for Christmas. Hopfully she can get another 30 out of this one.

What kind of cloth are you using? You may just need to clean yiur machine & change the needle to a 16g. 16g needles are made for denim will punch through anything used for a scout. I use these to sew the suede on the jumpsuits. As for cleaning your machine, open it up & use a air compressor & blow out all the dust & "thread bunnies" then add 3 in 1 oil to all the moving parts. I clean my machine about every 6 suits made. Runs better than new each time.

You will want to sew the open slash pockets. Coveralls are meant to be worn over your regular clothes & this give access you your inner pockets. The regular pocket can be left open. Once the belt is on it will be secured.
-
Use a new exacto knife for the bar tacks. A couple gentle cuts on the "outside" of the pocket will do it. Gently pull away & cut the remaining thread with a seam ripper. The only hard bar tack is the pen pocket. For some reason that one always leaves a small hole. But no worries it will be covered by your flakvest & chest armor. Take your time & use gentle cuts. My 1st jumpsuit i took 2hrs to remove all the pockets. Now i can do it in 10min.

Chunk replied to Bugz's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
This is my wife's bucket. I myself wear a KS. There is a comparison thread here. I have pics of 3 of my helmets. DP, KS & CB. I did not have the SC at the time of the comparrison. -

I have a 23" head exactly (just measured it) My wife has an SC bucket. I will put it on & take a pic for you to see. -
I have a CB & was one of his 1st customers here to buy one from him. Its a work of art, & i gave a great review on here about. People felt more comfortable buying from him after my experiance with him. Sadly right after is when he stopped delivering.

When I made my wifes boots I used a blue ball point pen to trace the shapes out. Some of the ink was still visable. So I made some mud & rubbed it all over her boots. Problem solved.

I see you found a guy 😉
-
That guy is banned here on the BSN for NOT delivering product. He is the ONLY one here with a "Complaint" thread. There are people here that have been waiting over 2 years fir stuff they ordered. Stay awa from him. Ask atound & you just mite find a guy who can make you a suit 😉

Get the SC helmet, Jeff gives you a break on the price if you buy it with the armor kit.
-
You can use a regular home sewing machine. Buy a #16 HD pack of needles & just sew very slowly. Since its yiur 1st time you may break 2-3 needs. Also do you know if your suede thickness is 3 or thinner? Anything thicker & it will be tough.

The Aren't You A Little Sort For A...Biker Scout (WIP)
Chunk replied to StoutScout's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Soft Parts
What purpose do the magnets serve if you hav clips to hold the TD on to the belt? -
If you buy the SC kit, everything is included. If not search around here everything is listed here & there.

Just cheap .50 acrylic paint found in the craft section at Walmart. Think the brand was Apple Barrel or something like that. It has a red apple on the sticker.
-
Did you let the paint cure? I painted the soles on some black soled boots with cheap .50 acrylic paint from walmat. Think I put about 4 coats on. I did 2 troops in them & they DID NOT flake off, the paint is still there as the day I painted. But I only walked around in them, I didn't go for a jog

I have 4 buckets, DP, KS, CB & SC. Here is a pic with the first 3 mentioned(aquired the SC later) From Left to Right DP,KS, CB The DP sits on my safe with all my scout stuff as a display. The KS is what I wear when I troop. The CB is what I wear with my snow scout.
-
That spray paint will not work for painting your soles. It will flake of with every step & you will be left with a white boot with black & tan sole. You can use any acrylic paint (.50-.$2) found at any hobby shop, Walmart...ect. Just buy a cheap(30pk $1) paintbrush & brush on 3-4 coats. Make sure you buy ACRYLIC paint or it will not flex when you step & you will end up with the same effect as the spray paint.

I don't think there is a set way. The vest i make come right up to the collar so all you see of the jumpsuit is the collar.
