I just recieved my replacement helmet kit from KS this weekend. Alot of back and forth with a mis shipment in the middle. I have from the new molds their using and this looks alot better. It doesn't have that wierd bump on the visor so I'm extremely happy, now I need to figure out how to sand trim and glue it together. Bat I think I'll be working with you step by step on this. I have also asked Tyranus and oldline garrisons to help out. Yup thats right I'm shamelessly asking to Garrisions (I live on the border of 2 states) for help. My reasoning. Wedding pictures, My fiancee wants them in there so I have to have it look good. then I'll dirty it

KS buckets ...improving? or just good luck?
shdwtrpr13 replied to topherhunter's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
got an email from Ks not too long ago about replacing my helmet. the messaged said "We have just picked up a new forming run, and should be able to conduct your replacement shortly" -
Well that explains why I haven't gotten a reply from Jeff yet and why their vs mail is at capasity. Well I'll wait on their replys. I really want to know where SC is on the dome of their helmet before I order anything.

With great sadness I will be returning and getting a refund. The replacement part I recieve was of far less quality then the one I sent back. They have agreed to a refund upon return of the kit, as well they know my displeasure for what they gave me. At this time I will be contacting the other 2 vendors moncal and sc. And if anyone knows of others that sell helmet kits please do pm me.

It really is depressing to know that their earlier stuff was much better. But yeah I'll get oppinions from my garrison tomorrow and see where to go from there. By the way lone thanks for you refrense pics.

well here's the update folks. I got the replacement piece back and it seems of lower quality then the first visor. I'm taking the whole kit to my garrison armor party this weekend to go over it with some greate armorsmiths. If it's deemed a loss I'm either going to send the whole kit back and tell them to refund me do to low quality or give me a better pull. Also I contacted SC tonight to inquire on their helmet dome. In a post last year after they redid their helmet they mention modifying the dome. I heads on the medium range so if the domes done I'll jump on that in heart beat. I just want to say I hate how this makes me feel. I don't make alot of money and when I pay for something that is supposed to be made good I expect to get something good. No spend alot of money on something that is not made with pride.

with this it will really come down to imagination, creativity, and experimentation. I'm hoping we fan fabricate with light rubber resins and add padding to keep a stable but beautiful interior to the helmet. This is a KS bucket and I do have the average size head so it will be interesting to find what works best.
-
With my KS kit I'm going to be doing my own padding inside the helmet and I will also be adding some interior components to the back to even out the weight that will be put onto the face. I'm hoping to have a fully interactive helmet when I'm finished so when I take if off you will see awsomeness. not just that which you'd see when I flip open the face.

So as I'm waiting on the replacement part for my bucket I'v been thinking of a way to make the inside of my helmet something that would be cool for kids to see. I know for several buckets like boba fett and the TK there are some rubber molds to make them look screen accurate/awsome. I was wondering if anyone hand done this with a TB helmet before? I have a guy in my garrison that loves to play around with concept molds. he even did a half mask vader for a guy. I was going to give him the deminsions for the face of the mask and some rough ideas with what the biker scout has intigrated in their helmets. Sure this will add alittle weight but I'm a volunteer firefighter I'm used to my helmets having weight for long durations. and I want the kids to see something that makes them think wow cool when i flip up the face shield of the helmet.

just emailed them after a weekend of checking with my garrison and the one a state over seeing if we had an ABS guru around. so I hope to get some feedback this week and I'll keep you guys up to date.
-
Ah a shame. Well until SC is finished with tweekinh thirty bucket I'm stuck with the KS. I hoping I don't have any issues with them helping on the visor or I will have to inform them of their declinig favor with the TB builders...
-
By the way I never heard or GF before. Do you have contact info for them or their web page. Send me a PM if you do.

I guess I'll be contacting them tonight about the visor with the pictures and see what I can get them to do.

I got home today V day and found on my step a box and inside that box was a helmet kit from KS. After the child like excitement and dry fitting I started inspecting the 4 pieces of the kit. As I was looking over the visor well...take a look. I was going to use knee pad foam to make my helmet look a bit sci-fi ish and add later some detail work. So when my lid is up kids will see something cool and with a realism they can enjoy.

fabric check, before starting the bund and pouchs
shdwtrpr13 replied to shdwtrpr13's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout HQ
Then its on like dimly Kong this weekend. Progress picture Monday. -
So I have my patterns all worked out and ready to go. and 2 fabrics. on the left is a heavy canvas for the pouchs, in the middle is the webbing for the drop box's, and on the right is the a cotton canvas of lighter weight for the bung. Let me know if you guys think this will work out good for my build. Mind you a month after I'm approved I'm dirtying my armor first picture to help, hope the lighting is good for you guys. riveting the belt together, help...
shdwtrpr13 replied to shdwtrpr13's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
My main concern was that excess from the rivet after I popped it into place. I alwas seem to have a nipple. -
So I'm finishing up the hard parts and I'm stuck at riveting the webbing belt to the plastic. I am.in sure how to do this part. Any advice would be greatly helpful.
-
So I have in my stock pile of fabrics I have a heavy duct canvas and a lighter cotton canvas. Which would be best for my bund and pouchs?
-
just got a set of these clips this week. looking forward to nodding them this weekend.
-
ok last question, is the 6 stitch approachable by 501st standards? I've noticed that it says 7 in the cell still
-
hmm I like this, the bind does appear to go under the belt about 1/4 to 1/2 of the way in the screens. this does help a lot and if I may ask my own question... I'm planning to have the bind go high enough that it hides under the chest armor strap. does that sound like it would be idea?

Hmm how does one measure the height of their head?.....something to look into....
