I need your opinion on my finsihed helmet
Arnie replied to Uplandmacenter's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
Dont know if you're required to redo the fish hook to get it approved, but I would do it anyway. And if you do as LW sugest and get better decals, it would be a no-brainer -
White and black?? one of each right? But thanks Just picked up my Vinyl at the post office today, so its time for some boot building

Dont want to start a fire, but could we see some hard evidence that there where 7 stripes? I think there is quite enough proof that there is 6, but no evidence about the 7. If the only proof there is for the 7 stripes, is a discussion held long time ago, and far far away, I would say its time for a new one. I'm still doing 6 stripes on my build, unless someone can give me clear evidence of the 7. If this means my scout wont be approved for another 6 month or longer, because the CRL dont change, so be it. No pun intended guys, just my 2 cents

The snout is off center, the fish hook decal is crooked and you need the discs to cover the bolts. Looks fine to me otherwise -
Helmet is more or less done now. The screw covers are being glued with E6000 right now. Heres how it looks. Thinking about painting the inside of the went holes black, to more simulate the decal thing. Dont know.

Well, I certainly wont sew seven stiches on the cummerbund for my biker build. Thats some eagle eyes you got there
-
On screen the holes where just a decal, but the MLC helmet have them cut out. I will keep the holes to give me a tiny bit of extra air intake But I dont plan on doing anything to the inside of the helemt, except adding padding.

Snout seems done to me...

Its dry now and heres how it looks There are some tiny flaws in the paint though. First is on the visor. At the top right corner it looks like the paint have run a bit, and the edge by the bolt, the paint is a bit uneven as well. I have put in some plastic spacer/shims between the visor and the helmet itself. Next step will be a light wet sanding more or less all over, and then give it a final paint job. This time with the same brand of paint!

So did the last one, until I touched it... But it seems nice and solid now. Will leave it be until tomorrow and give it another coat I think...but not sure if the extra coat is necesarry.

Aint good at being patient It seemed dry already yesterday, buuuut I will leave it be until tomorrow

Thanks for all the input guys The plasticoat I started out with didnt have a colour I liked. I was white yes, but I just wasnt satisfied...Maybe I should have settled, instead of going throught it all again. This time I am priming it with Citadel Skull White. Its a great hobby spray that dries extremely well, and I have worked with it quite a lot in the past years. This is how it looks now. The primer is already dry, as it dries in a matter of minutes, and its now a couple of hours since I painted it, and I'm actually thinking about trying a new coat of shiny white paint. Plasti-kote again, RAL 9010

Yeah I have tried something similar on blasters too. You would think that I had learned by now Oh well. Back to square one
-
Already did the acetone, and it almost look like when I got it. From what I found on google, about acetone and fiberglass, it almost seemed like acetone was made to clean fiberglass, so I took the chance Dont know what primer MC uses, but damn that stuff sticks to the helmet Will sand it where needed and give it a new coat of primer tomorrow. Let dry for at least 24 hours, and then try a new coat of gloss white.

MLC is a good looking helmet. But before ordering either MLC or KS, take a look at theese posts. http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=9581&hl=&fromsearch=1 http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=9619&hl=remastered&fromsearch=1

I followed the drying time on the spray can. The first spray I used said that I should give additional coats before 4 hours of the first and that it would be completely dry after 36 hours of the last coat. I wasnt happy with the colour of the first spray I used, so I used another, but after the first had dried for a good 40 hours-ish. But I think the main problem may be that I used another brand of paint on top of the other. Even though it should have been dry. But I have googled acetone on fiberglass and acetone is aparently the most recommended product, for removing paint from fiberglass, so it shouldnt do any harm to the helmet itself.

Somehow I have screwed up the paint job on the helmet! After 3½ day its still not really dry, and when I touch it I leave big prints in the paint, from my fingers. I can actually rub the outer layer and there is a sticky layer underneath. I will have to clean it all off somehow and start over! Does anyone know how fibeglass reacts to acetone? Or should I just use paint thinner? Here you can see the disaster... And its like this all over!

Boots, do I need a new leg part? Are they good?
Arnie replied to a topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Soft Parts
They look like the tall "stormtrooper" boots they sell at Jedi-robe aka stormtroopercostumes... Just no... They wouldnt even pass for TK approval. Sorry man. -
Vinyl ordered, and will wait a couple more days before working any more with the helmet
-
I have been in contact with a seller on Ebay about getting vinly, and they recomend THIS for me. What do you guys think? I had showed them the boot tutorial and this was the email reply.
-
So the helmet got some extra layers today. 3 or 4 I think...forgot to count. Will let dry until tomorrow afternoon and see how it looks. Right now there are some small flaws in the paint, but I hope I can remove them with some wet sanding with grit 1000 and some polish maybe. Dont know. Never painted a helmet before. Colour comparison to the armour. I hope I cann complete this tomorrow or the day after at the latest.

You will be surprised what can be approved, as long as its well built But nothing in this hobby is ready to wear or can be approved straight away. Not even if you bought a previously pproved costume by another member. It have to fit you and it must be approved with you in it
-
No expert but I think a lot of people use SC armour, but I probably needs a bit more work done than MC.
-
Glad you like it I'm hoping I can give the helmet the last coat today, so stay tuned

Same as for the TK I would say. More actually since you have lot more room in the Scout helmet.
