LOL, so I know that test is, but not by name. Had to look it up. Thanks muchly for all the advice. I will be using these ideas. By primer you mean you just dropped the armor on it? I start to see how much is on my current set. I will probably scrub some of it off. Soundwave: pm sent, or will be sent, whatever.

i know nothing of Star Fortress, but the nose on my helmet isn't slanted. I think... going to check

fine. No race then. The weathering was a real question I, like you, prefer it to be a bit weathered but I do understand keeping it shiny. Does it matter for any 501st events?
-
LOLOLOL you just made my morning. The sandies are the ones without paldrons, correct? or do the armor pouches count? I was just wondering the original question of this thread myself. Anybody else wish their spouse could pick them out from a crowd? Ooh honey look at all these pics of the parade and YOU. Dear those aren't me, at all

dang it. Every time I see these build photos (including Panda's) I realize how easy my life would be if I had the right tools. I feel my build is going to be oddly interesting. No clamps, no heat source, very little anything else..... Looks like you are on the right track as far as I can tell.

I'll race you Soundwave. My armor is arriving no later than the 3rd. I am shocked by the speed of this. Still no word on other fronts. What is the benefit of making sure that the wear is continually cleaned off? Dude, pink? on the belt? Just saying.
-
Thanks much I will probably take you up on that. Read through all of PandaTroopers tutorial today. Not going for near the level that he was, but it was good to read. My goal is to be approvable before I move mid June. Other mods can wait Though I am not sure why I set that goal for myself? Might be counterproductive.

The wife just did it with a regular needle although we did use faux suede. If you are using real suede then you will need a heavier duty needle, both for machine and hand sewing. I don't think you need a leather needle per se. Its more time consuming to do it by hand, but easier to sew whilst keeping the seams intact.
-
Took your suggestion and put a order in for everything. The wife agreed to it because it gets her an armor set too. Still crossing fingers that ks wont eat my quarters. So, anybody not busy in a few weeks and would like to coach me, like in person?
-
aw dang and I would start that conversation what if the ancient scout race had mods on their visors or scopes? then they could have their cake and eat it too, as it were.
-
LOLOL I didn't know scout helmets had the capability of staying open. Mine sort of does, but it ain't 100% anymore. It is a little warped.
-
About how many hours does it take to put the sc or ks kits together?

Weathering got it I think the previous owner of the armor did a tk prior to the tb. The weathering seems apt for that sort of armor. I kind of suspected this was going to happen, so I am not worried. I am quite happy that I have gotten this far. Other than finishing the boots I might just leave the current armor as is. The suit is complete enough as is to give the wife a chance to have fun too. She is looking to join the 501st, but it will be through Mara Jade or Admiral Daala. I love my wife. As a sounding of how much I am going to have to spend. Would the bucket pass inspection with the cosmetic changes that were suggested? Would the armor pass if I toned down the weathering and changed the belt system? I will probably end up buying new armor bits. On that note, (and I dont' know if this acceptable) may I ask all of you to check your respective forums for scout armor? I looked into sc and ks and they are possibilities, but there is a possibility I am moving in June and I don't know if their runs would be done in that time. Worst case scenario is that I have to put 501st entrance on the back burner for several months. Oh and for the record, I took the current armor out to Wal-Mart last night. I am looking forward to doing more both with the 501st and on my own time.

Thanks. I feel like it is who I am. Chef you said to remind you not to look before coffee o clock, well remind me of the opposite. It was late last night when i posted. Add holster to boot when ks finally ships it Finish removing the 2nd stitch line on the boot tops 1. just like the boot issue oops. Will reset those. Small which direction? At the moment it just fits between the belt and chest with little room around it. 2 Did this change at some point, or did the previous owner of the hard bits, just not know what he was doing? Couldn't figure out what you meant at first. Looked at CRL and it doesn't say anything. Only reference I had is the TB model image. Will pick up some paint for this and the other jobs. And with that, in examining, did the dude also put the det on backwards? I am not sure how to fix that one. Will have to look at it a bit. 3. Will examine and fix, don't remember how the stripes are put on there, and currently have baby sleeping on chest which means I can't move. 4. I think this and smiling fox's comments are both that the whole thing needs to slide up. May have to redo the groin strap to get it to sit higher. Wife mentioned remaking all together. If so she gets dibs on the job. It will be much faster than when I did it. 5. Will paint, was this and the tank stripes some sort of rank delineator? It doesn't make sense to have half lines. 6. Can adjust 7. Mr_hair mentioned the weathering when I was posting for the flak vest. I wanted to see if the consensus was still the same after seeing the suit as a whole. Here is hoping that I can scrub some of the weathering off. Will do on getting the cloth bits dirty. On a side note, what events does the weathering exclude me from? I plan to have at least one other (type unknown) armor set in the house at some distant point, but don't know if it is worth having a 'death star white' or the costume's equivalent. Thanks again all. I am off to the craft store sometime today.

Here is everything I have so far and the progress that level that it is at. Please let me know what it needs and if it is fixable I will try to do so. I actually got to wear this all this morning and show up at a middle school boys star wars movie marathon. It was cool. The album of everything all all the closeups is Known issues. The left boot needs to have the sole cut up. The left thigh needs the riding patch strap. (we ran out and the store ran out too) Here is a front view Thank you all for your help thus far. The TB dream is final coming closed.

I am here for honest. At this point I am only going for basic level entrance. My armor is an older version and weathered, and I am not sure how that works with the levels of the scouts. I am not opposed to fixing things though 1) The seam should be easy to pick 2) Any tricks for this? I am kind of limited in my tool set at the moment, although I could ask around if something special was needed. Addendum: Looks like my boot soles are really not stiff. I was able to cut a few pieces off without issue. Still open to easier methods than xacto knives (if any) 3) Yea, even after following the tutorial I managed to mess up the left. Will get to work on that. On another note, for full build critique do I just post pics in every individual forum? I need to get all the major critiques thrown at me now, when I still feel like it is a work in progress. (Rather then when I feel 'done')

flak vest and riding patch finishing touches
Skinner3D replied to Skinner3D's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout HQ
and another update. The final on the flak vest after all modifications. I think the sleeves are the right length now. -
So minus the holster (which KS is supposedly making and shipping to me) these are my boots as per the tutorial. I think they turned out nicely. Anybody know the wait time on KS normally? I ordered on March 6 and the PayPal went through on March 13. I think if these pass muster and the other parts on the forum that I have posted also pass muster I will be ready to start looking into to posting for final and the 501st.

Ok update time. We figured out the flak vest issue (we think) will post soon. Before I commit with the riding patch, does it look right? Front Back -
flak vest and riding patch finishing touches

Smiling Fox, the wife is doing the sewing on the flak vest and she thinks your suggestion will actually save her a ton of work. So, thanks. I ended up ripping out seams on the legs, and then reading your post. Woops. Oh well, should be easy to sew on now. -

Thanks all, will take up the sleeves. Ripped the seams out of the suit and will see about getting the patch on. lol i got the hard bits second hand and hadn't even considered the weathering level. I will see what I can do with weathering removal. -
Here is the finished version of the flak vest. Is it the right length? I can still adjust the sleeves if not. Also, how did you all put the riding patch on the suit? Did you hand sew or glue? It doesn't seem possible to use the sewing machine.
-
Here is a mostly finished glove. Is this going to be acceptable for entrance?
-
I wondered about that and it does make more sense.
