Upgrading MC boots to Lancer spec
elwyn5150 replied to elwyn5150's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Soft Parts
What do most people use to repaint the soles? A speciality paint from a shoe shop? -
I was looking at my Mon Cal boots made in 2011. They are really great but need changes to reach Lancer spec. I have a few questions. Does the Velcro at the back need to be 25 mm exactly? Mine seem to be 20 mm. Cutting the sole: so I just need to cut the sole such that there are two stacked rectangles where the groves are? I noticed that there is a thin layer of the sole that is browny-green. I think it's about 8 mm high below where the vinyl starts. Does this need to be painted? If so, what should I paint the sole with?

The TD greeblies are part of the cast and aren't like the recent accurate ones. Holster looks like it still needs a hole created for it and I'm not sure what that piece next to it is.
-
Having the "most accurate knees" is hardly a claim to fame. I'd be a bit wary of anyone who offers a "ready to wear" stormtrooper costume. People's bodies' are complicated and don't easily fit into categories such as XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL etc.

I've repainted my MLC v3 after the bondo inside leaked. The helmet now feels a little rough on the outside. Should I sandpaper the paint a little with an extremely fine wet & dry to give it a nice smooth feeling?

I was thinking of getting these two: http://www.safetysup...duct_id=1336354 - Shade 5 for daytime troops http://www.safetysup...duct_id=1336355 - Shade unknown for dark indoor/night time troops. What shade do you think the second one is? What do you think of them?
-
Did you have to repaint because of that leaking of colour? That's why I need to repaint.

Do you know there's a whole section of bikerscout.net's forums dedicated to the Kashyyk scout?
-
Looks like that because of lighting.

Mmm. Sometimes I wonder if people give too much credit to Uncle George and his rubber stamp over others, especially since it's a week since Ralph Macquarie passed away.

This thread hasn't been touched in a month but it does say that there were some left as of 27 Jan: http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=8800&st=120

Today I went to a group on Meetup.com for people in my inner city to sew and learnt how to use a sewing machine. I wasn't able to make anything as puffy as the ribbing on the sleeves. However, the instructor found something someone else had made that sort of resembled the ribbing on Vader's torso. The materials that ribbed the best were thinner. Does anyone have a sewing pattern for the vest or something similar?

Since this is a thread about tank toppers,to get Lancer status, I know there can't be a red LED like there is in the MOM exhibit. Is it adequate to cover it up with white cloth tape or PVC tape?

Start with the non scary stuff - strapping.

Heh. I've had some awesome people sign the inside of my TK bucket: Weird Al, Lance Henricksen, Peter Sumner... I've been told by people in my garrison that painting the inside of a bucket makes it easier to see because it reduces the amount of reflection from whatever light does reach inside. This is why painting the inside was the first thing I did... and the easiest.

Where are the rivets?
-
Please email me that at elwyn5150@gmail.com :-)
-
Thanks for the fast response. I am a little paranoid since my other costume (TK) has a crack from stress in the knee area.
-
I think I drilled the holes for the rivels too close to the edge. There's a space of about 2 mm from the hole to the edge. I'm afraid of damaging the knee armour. I have MC knee armour. Which of the following should I do? a ) Add a think piece of PVC or ABS and hope that reinforces the area? b ) Have very lose elastic so that no pressure is on the weak point? c ) a + b d) attach the rivet but not to the strap. Superglue the strap to the plastic behind the rivet. Does it actually have to be riveted on or can it just appear to be riveted on?

Alice clips are driving me nuts
elwyn5150 replied to elwyn5150's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
Grrr! I finally got through those damn clips! At an armour party, we did our best with drill bits then a dremel made the hole large enough. I thought I had finished my TD! -

I haven't tried touching them myself again since I made that post. However... at work, they have had contractors come in to do renovations and I asked one of them to do the holes using the drill bits I bought and they had professional quality drills and couldn't do it. I'm hoping that I don't need to buy another $30-40 worth of drill bits I probably won't use again. Correct me if I'm wrong: I think the larger of the two holes needs to be large enough for the rivet gun to fit it's head through. -
I really hate how strong these alice clips are. It's funny because I've bought a 1/2" drill bit but it didn't find my old hand drill. So I bought a new cheap cordless drill (10 mm) and a 5/16" drill bit. A guy at the store joked that it'd be easier to just hire a contractor. Umm... I've never owned an electric drill before. What torque settings should I be using on the clips? Is there a "best" speed of rotation to drill the hole? I don't feel like I am doing this drilling very effectively.

Little short for a stormtrooper.......

Wouldn't you rather glue it than use tape? -
Very nice work!
