Looking good so far Wayne! Get some foam in the pouches so they don't look like pancakes. I updated your profile to 501st Trooper so you have some more access.

Thank you. Well, I'm working with bluecyclone on getting new and better info in the armory. It's been going a little slow and we apologize for that. I've been terribly busy the last few weeks and am busy again in the next two. We'll have more info up soon. The purpose of these boards is to disceminate information to up and coming Scouts.

The only "rank" possibly related markings on scout armor are the stripes on the tank. It is believe there was 1-6 stripes. There is no canon based reference to these being rank stripes, but in the film, various scouts had various numbers of the stripes. There are no other rank or detachment or unit designations or markings on the armor except the fish hook on the helmet. You of course can add personalization after you have completed your costume and had it added to the legion database. A lot of people walk around with custom markings, I know someone with dead ewok kill count stickers on his tank, and I have seen many people with aurbesh writing on chest plates or shoulders or even garrison stickers. Permanent or otherwise. These markings however do make your costume non canon while they are on. Lancers are not allowed to have unit, detachment, garrison or any other sort of non canon personalization to them.

I agree with Manny exactly. A good set of armor costs more. The SC armor is not expensive and is good quality. MC is excellent quality and a little more cost. You're not likely to find someone to suggest getting cheaper armor. Contact bluecyclone for an info file on contacts and suggestions.

found another potential bucket.

The more I look at it, the more it does look like a recast KS bucket. Odd, my KS bucket looks 1000 times better. -

We can speculate on the quality all day from photos. If anyone has purchased one of these and has a review to do, or the owner wants to come here and discuss their build, we can have that. As is always recommended, be cautious of eBay sales. -

Best to not post other people's eBay links. As for the helmet, it doesn't look horrible, but has a few issues. As there is no side profile picture, I can only guess that the ears are not forward enough and not large open enough. They appear to be swept back. The lens cut out is too wide, I believe this comes from a thinning of the face plate from whatever they recast it from. The pictures show it at various angles and show the space between the edge of the lens hole and the edge of the face plate to be far too small, yet the details on the face plate continue out too far. As I said, it looks like someone took an existing face plate and cut it thinner (DP possible?). If the person had a quality product, they would no doubt at least come here and try and show it. I have never seen mention of this helmet here on BSN, at least in the last few years. My thoughts are this is a DP recast or a new bucket designed based on a modified DP. This guy makes an aweful lot of other helmets that look similar to MR, PA and other makers as well. I do not believe these are designed by the maker, however I may be wrong. Always beware of eBay sellers who are not recommended directly by 501st detachments. Detachment members give you suggestions for a reason, they have used the items and are happy with the quality. You've never seen anyone recommend this guy. -
I have received numerous PMs and an email about this topic and would like to add that if Christian and anyone else wants to discuss this matter further, they can take it to PMs. A fight in this thread will not end up well for anyone. Thread closed.

I use the spacing of the existing cuts in the soles to space out my cuts. One at the existing cut, and one in between, all the way around. Short of getting the right boot base or fabricating them myself, I am never going to get 100% accurate, so I have to do with what I have. I use the Merona Ryker boots from Target. The boots are very comfortable and the sole is soft enough to cut into easily. My original boots I used for Lancer were similar to the ones I showed a few posts above with the vertical only cuts. They were from WalMart. I am working on a new set for myself with the Merona boots once I finish all the commisions I have in a few weeks.
-
I used a box cutter on the vertical ribs of my original boots. On my new designed boots on the bottom, I use a #11 xacto blade.

Correct

What we're looking for is something like one of the photos below. The vertical cuts of the first picture are acceptable, you do not need to go as far as the cuts in the second picture.

The gap on the back of the KS can be fixed. Two scouts here have shown how, me being one of them. And yes, I agree the KS needs some work to be a better helmet. It is plenty large. The MLC is a great looking helmet but the face is a bit square. The Altmann's has a snout that is too flat and needs to stick out more. Rubies is very difficult unless you want to spend a lot of time working on it. I say all this as someone who has examined all frour types of helmets and made comparisons. I'm still no expert. I hope to ave my hands on a newly designed SC helmet in the next few months. It look spromising if the details can be improved and the seams fixed a bit to make it a viable bucket for new costumers. In the end, it's a matter of personal opinion and taste, some people swera by MLC, some by KS and some by Altmanns. Realistically I don't believe any off them is right enough to be considered the best.

The scout sniper rifle first came from the Battlefield series of video games. The rifle in the game was a combination of MG-34 and MG-42 with a sniper scope on it. For 501st purposes, the sniper rifle is not acceptable in the standard CRL for canon trooping events. It can however, as well as the carbine and other weapons, be used for non canon events. Your best bet is to look up info for a DLT-19.
-
According to the new visual CRL being developed, we have this for boots: According to the Lancer specifications: I would say that the Gemplers would be acceptable with some modifications for the basic costume, but definately not for the Lancer specifications. I would not suggest these boots to anyone. There are people out there who make boots for sale (me included) and there is the boot tutorial. It's not hard to get accurate boots.

The helmet in question is not accurate as it stands and is made of fiberglass so modification to it is impossible. The shape of the faceplate is incorrect and the helmet is too large. I would not recommend it, and you would be better off with MLC (also fiberglass) or KS (PVC). The soft parts are also somewhat innacurate. Please send a PM to blucyclone for information about where to purchase armor and helmets and other supplies. You will also find threads in the Trade Forum from people selling soft components, and you can bet if they have a thread there, that their parts are accurate and of good quality. It is always best to avoid eBay unless someone points you there. BSN is the best place on the internet to get information about Biker Scout costumes and parts, you would be best advised to take the advice of people here instead of going off to eBay to try and save a few dollars. The costuming hobby is not a cheap or quick fix one. Chances are, if it's cheap or easy to get, it's likely not of high quality. Bluecyclone will have all the information you seek, as well as a quick browse about the Trade Forum and the armor archives. We're currently working on new armor references. Good luck!

Congratulations Sierra, welcome to the Pathfinders.

The movie used suit was an Esprit Freedom motorcycle racing suit similar to most single layer proban auto racing suits. I use a Speedway Motors single layer racing suit and it has served me well. The racing suits are much more form fitting than the flight suits which are way too baggy. IMHO.

If the initials are SC, then yes. We talk in codes here, SC, MC, KS, MLC...

Congratulations J!

Not screen accurate, not Lancer approved. However, some do wear it to keep the back of the helmet from cracking or bending when it rubs on their neck
